Ho Chi Minh wanted freedon for his people, but once again, America proved that it says one thing but does another. The French raped that nation and created the Viet Minh. During WW2 we helped Ho to fight the Japanese and all he asked for was freedom for his people. After the war we stabbed him in the back again and gave his nation back to the French. He was never our enemy. Unjust war.

I love this song! At 15, although invited to Woodstock, I knew better than to even ask my parents. After I heard about all the rain, mud, traffic, etc., I was glad I didn't go. I listened to the music on the album in comfort. But here's the thing about Vietnam, I see very few comments that show full understanding of the conflict; and I see a lot of unintelligent comments full of words that don't add to the conversation. If he served on a vessel off shore, then it was in the '64-65 time period when we did some patrolling in the South China Sea. I was a Marine infantryman with the 9th Marines from July '65-May '66 and the only Naval personnal on shore were hospital corpsmen, Navy chaplains and doctors, and Seabees. I love this song! At 15, although invited to Woodstock, I knew better than to even ask my parents. After I heard about all the rain, mud, traffic, etc., I was glad I didn't go. I listened to the music on the album in comfort. But here's the thing about Vietnam, I see very few comments that show full understanding of the conflict; and I see a lot of unintelligent comments full of words that don't add to the conversation. @tommieparch I think you missed something entirely. I missed Woodstock because I was too young to go. I was NOT pro-nam. If you read other comments I've made you'll see that I protested this war. My friends went; some didn't come back; those that did were badly affected; and some have died/are dying from Agent Orange exposure. We wanted our soldiers back safely; they were pawns in a war that needed to end. Boy, have you misread me. Read my other comments...

What makes you think the USA won a War in 1945?? That was the USSR and the UK/Canada/India/Australia/New Zealand. The USA were caught by surprise - 2 years into a World War!!!! Amateurs! They came along and did their best but the Cream of the Luftwaffe were destroyed by the RAF in 1940, The Cream of the Wehrmacht were beaten by the Red Army from 1942 and the UK 8th Army in North Africa. The US soldier was as good as anybody else but the US establishment made him arrive late!! - AGAIN!

McDonald did not fight in Vietnam. He did a hitch in the Navy, and was discharged in November 1965. If he served on a vessel off shore, then it was in the '64-65 time period when we did some patrolling in the South China Sea. I was a Marine infantryman with the 9th Marines from July '65-May '66 and the only Naval personnal on shore were hospital corpsmen, Navy chaplains and doctors, and Seabees. However, Country Joe was not anti-Veteran like so many dope smoking knucklehead hippies.
