Gabbyandindigo, there are two breeders that I know
Of one in Alabama called the Corvid ranch and one in Commerce Georgia called Daniel Walthers. They both ship so you don't have to travel all the way their. But I will warn you, they cost 1500 dollars and you have to have a really big cage which will cost another 700.
@afdeditch99 Do you need some sort of license to own this type of Crow? Where I live you need to own a permit to own wild animals such as Foxes and Raccoons I'm not sure if that would count the same for wild birds. Also since I live in the states its illegal to own a native Crow so if I want a Crow it has to be native elsewhere like the one in the video.
No this is an african pied crow they are easy to obtain if you got a deep pocket ha. Native species in the US are not legal to own as pets...even though its legal to kill them :/
I want one sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Badly.
why do you have those restraints on his feet? in the video you can see that is bugging the bird, you take them off, that is really being mean to the bird.
anyone breed crows, magpies or jays in the uk? ive always been interested in these facinating and sociable birds, and cant believe ppl dont keep them more often. personally i find them more interesting than parrots, finches, and the rest of the normal pet birds ppl keep.
@strangedailythings Looks like yarn, tying him to the perch. Dangerous if he gets startled & jumps or tries to fly. Hope they figure that out & get rid of it. Clipping wings is a better idea.
@KutWrite yeah me too, clipping wings doesnt hurt the bird right? Isnt that what they do to chickens? Chickens can normally flight right? Lol I don't know very much about birds as you could probably tell:P
@strangedailythings I don't think chickens fly very much in the wild. They don't migrate, and roost near where they graze. But yeah; wing-clipping is painless if done correctly - like a haircut. My birds fly just a little, to keep them safe, but not allow them to escape or bash into a mirror or window. When my other birds got old & couldn't fly far, I let their wings grow out. It's good exercise. See the birds on my channel, if you like!
I know you said you don't own the bird, but I'm assuming one of your friends does? I'm just wondering how you train the bird to catch the treats in his mouth and how you teach him to jump on your arm? I'm looking into purchasing an African Pied Crow and was wondering if you could help me out with these training questions... Thanks.
Since some havent noticed some of the answers already.
The things on his feet are called "Jessies" and are used to attach a leash to, usually for when taking the bird outside.
As for the bird itself, it is an African Pied Crow, which are legal to own in the US. It is illegal to own any form of native crow or raven to the US, but since the Pied Crow was imported from Africa it can be sold and owned legally, and are starting to become more popular.
That's a beautiful crow. I read on a news paper LONG time ago that crows were the smartest after humans. Then came dolphins, monkeys, pigs etc...Idk if it's still the same. Cause that news paper is 30 yrs old.
What a beauty, and so gentle too! The Pied Crow x Brown-necked Ravens I visit always do a number on your fingers when you pass them treats. Though the nipping is definitely worth the interaction, corvids are amazing birds.
The blue things are called jesses. They are there in case the crow ever needs to be put on a leash. But do not worry, the crow never goes on a leash. It has its own aviary place that is much, much larger than the cage.
Why not take the jesses off? I'd really hate to find him hanging from one leg somewhere, or worse. If you ever need to restrain him, a bird harness is a much better choice. Jesses are for birds of prey with their much stronger legs, and not for passerines.
yesterday, i picked up a wild crow cuz its wing was broken, and i tuk it home to ask if we could call a helper charity but she said no and i put him under a bush. later i went back and found a dead crow were i put him. ID NAMED HIM AND ALL!!! it was a stupid siamese cat that did it
A bird with a broken wing will die without help. Unfortunately for you and your bird, putting it under a bush is no help at all. And sometimes the local "helper charity" isn't much help either. If you care, you must be prepared to take on the project yourself, call for help and learn quick!
I know some people in the UK who have so many rescued birds, it's incredible! And many of them got started upon finding a bird or two in need of help, and for some reason they just kept on finding them. If you're not careful, you could end up with a house full of crows! Which is a lovely thing for some people!
