@helladank101 We just have been. Gilroy allows more brass to be featured, and I guess maybe that's why we're doing it. Hopefully we can refrain from Gilroy next year.
I don't see a relationship to CCHS's 06 state show... and the judging wasn't messed up. Go watch the area finals video and it's obvious that the top 5 bands deserved their spots
be it as it may, after reviewing the performances ( which i did) there was no way that the bands made that ranking, especially marion beating carrizo, review the tapes sir, and tell me what you see.
When reviewing the taps I see a clean Hidalgo, musically inclined Medina Valley, a good Port I, an extremely good Crystal City, and a powerful Rio Hondo. I don't agree with Marion scoring as well as they did, but does the state alternate spot really matter?
yeah the best at sucking... hondo has really simple shows.. not good for advancing into state ... definitely not state quality.. i've seen their shows... sorry.. carrizo and crystal are the best in the area.. and carrizo definitely has better shows.. i loved this show ...
Hey, I'm from Hondo! But even though I am, I have to agree with darude90. We do have simple shows and the music always keeps us from state. We sucked at Regionals, but we're getting better. CS and CC have always been good I have to admit. But its not our shows, its our band. We dont have teamwork, spirit, pride, discipline, or dedication. If we worked hard as hell, our shows would be kick ass. We had a good chance in 06, but we failed for musical reasons. That's when we had ALL five of those...
I'm glad to hear that you agree with me, very bold thing to do. I do agree with you that in '06 you had a good chance, i personally love the eagles, but that was way too easy of an arrangment and not too hard of a drill, maybe one spot, but damn it was clean. Alma Santos was a good drum major (and a personal friend of mine, us drum majors go a long way lol) but i knew she worked her heart out for that unfortunately Mr. Howard's selection of music did not fare well with the judges
Umm excuse me? Our simple show kind of beat yall at area. It doesn't how complex you're show is if you can't refine it. That's what U.I.L represents, a show that shows that a marcher can play and march well not that someone's show is more complex than another. If anything kept us from state it was a bad performance not the style of our shows.
I understand your argument, Yes it does depend on refinement, however, Hondo usually does a very well job at having their shows EXTREMELY clean by the time Region, Area, ect comes, however bands like Carrizo and Crystal which have complex drill do a Very well job cleaning up and judges appreciate that, especially the extra work that goes in, think about it would you reward the person who did little and simple to just get by
Complexity which reaches the right level of execution. BTW, Judges don't exactly ridicule our shows we've received plenty of compliments. I can agree with yalls and CC's drills being complex; however, the level of execution in yalls drill is not always great though, so until I see something clean from yall and yall start beating Hondo a little more keep on the quiet side when referring to our bands thanks!
