I have stood exactly here, and also walked the circuit back in 2009. It was awesome.

  • what start of senna !!

  • 3.31 if you wanna skip the blabla and go to the boom-boom

  • Nelson Mandela raced for Williams. Cool.

  • the 4 of the thumbs down are ecclestone and the f1 management

  • No, no, no....thank YOU!

  • This is just an absolute little GEM of a post...thanks, more stuff like this, and i'll be a very happy chap :)

  • Anyone know what the music is that is used for the grid line up @ 2:11?

  • @jonnyt01uk i believe it's ivory tower by giorgio moroder

  • 1986 Williams Honda V-6 Turbo produced over 1000 horepower in quali trim. Awesome stuff back then. F1 has lost its balls with talks of going to 4 cylinder turbo's in 2013. Who knows what kind of power those will produce? 600-650? Weak.

  • @jc790 the most powerful F1 engine ever only had 4 cylinders! 1400bhp

  • SENNA IS THE MANNN!!

  • Thank you so much for posting the video !!!

  • - Senil Murray forgot to say Johanssons name at P11...what a bummer!!!!

  • 0:27 Ciao Elio...we miss you..

  • 0:42. Mario Theissen! Awesome!

  • Murray Walker, simply the best. 1986 was a fantastic season, despite some tragedy. Race in Peace, Elio.

  • Why is the video so shocky? You have a full version for me?

  • A lot of people forget that N Mansell was one of the the most exciting F1 drivers other than A Senna. I think, given equal cars there would not be much between them.

  • thank you for the great video!!!RIP to elio de angelis and senna what a driver!

  • rip elio

  • thanks a lot for this amazing times of real f1

  • These things were monsters. I wish they'd bring turbo engines back, they sounded nice.

  • @F1000X F1 will be using 1.6L 4 cylinder Turbocharged engines in 2013

  • @flipsidedogchop we will probably lose the engine sound then :(

  • You know, I don't know about anyone else but I hope that one day Murray Walker is Knighted for his services to Motorsport and to Journalism.

Others have been Knighted for as much or less.

  • why do they miss out the full nose cone change? i really wanted to see the chassis of an 80's f1 car or if prosts legs weree actually inside the nose cone.

  • i swear to god the music at 3:10 sounds like it's from The Neverending Story sooo strange to play for a Grand Prix.

  • i think it was Sennas fault. he was there where he should not

  • Thanks for uploading this. Great commentary by James and Murray. I like the turbo era of F1. Spa always seem to provide proper racing.

  • its somehow strange to see that the drivers shoulders are completely exposed....would be a no-go today I think.

  • Theissen was involved in Brabham BMW in 86, so it's possible.

  • It's not Theissen, it's John Gentry Elio's Chief Race Engineer.

  • No, it's Gordon Murray.

  • Gordon Murray is stood on the right hand side - John Gentry is stood behind the rear wing with the clipboard.

John Gentry was new to Brabham after having joined from Renault in 1985, where he was Derek Warwicks Race Engineer.

It was an irony that he was reunited with Derek again when he was announced as Elio's replacement for the Canadian GP onwards.

  • Sorry, I was assuming that the poster mistook Murray for Dr Theissen due to his moustache.

  • Sorry, right you are!

  • That isn't Theissen, as he wasn't involved in Formula 1 until April 1999.

  • is that Mario Theyssen in the background at 0:44?

  • That gentleman is Gordon Murray, the then chief engineer of the Brabham team whom Elio DeAngelis was driving before his tragic accident in '86

  • thx for the clarification

  • possibly not anymore bcos shumachers back

  • or not ;)

  • Ferrari in 6th? What is this, 2009? lol

  • hehehe!

  • LOL that was good

  • @jazzmonkey87

Ferrari and Alonso sucks ! :D

  • @jazzmonkey87 GP spa 2009 --> ferrari 1st place !

    NOOB

  • @jazzmonkey87 2012 and 2013

  • murry walker oks like those bobble head thingies, his head doesnt stop shaking

  • That was an amazing start by Senna, i swear he reacted at least half a second faster than anyone else to the green.

  • I love the 80's electric music

  • Dumfries wasn't English you wanker. Why don't you learn something about the geography of a country BEFORE you slag it off, hmm?

  • You call me a "typical frustrated english" yet you're the one on here insulting other nationalities. Obviously you're still angry that your golden boy got beaten by a guy from Birmingham. LOL

  • There are more english world champions (13), F1 drivers from Brasil (8). Oh and I'm not a english man;) owned. I cannot believe that you are 38. You sound like a 13 years old schoolboy.

  • You must be the biggest idiot in the universe to think Galvão is a good narrator.

    Brazilian coverage is crap.

  • This is awesome, thanks so much! The first GP I ever watched was Monaco 86, the race before this one. I still have it on tape and I'll put it up one day, once I've learned how the technology works!

It reminds me of how frustrating the coverage used to be though...so many missed overtaking moves!!

Once again - brilliant to see this here

  • Fat slicks. Turbos. McLaren, Williams and Brabham dominating. Lotus still in the JPS colour scheme. Nelson Piquet. Alain Prost. A shining young star named Ayrton Senna. An emerging force named Nigel Mansell. Old heads like Lauda making a comeback. Increasing amounts of teams. Great circuits that required balls. Forumla 1 in the 80's was great!

  • I was there that day and saw it all with my own eyes - I was only ten! Great to see again. Thanks.

  • Great vid thanks for posting :)

  • love that music!!

  • Thanks for this - love that '80s synth music!!

Any '80s F1 stuff gladly appreciated

  • Thanks everyone for the thousand views.

  • @classicf1 you're welcome. Classic is a classic... grettins from Chile!!

  • @classicf1 No, thank you, sir, for posting this.

  • What an awesome post. Classic stuff, Walker and Hunt commentary, Fleetwood Mac music at the end. Thanks.

  • Thanks. I am having internet problems atm so i cant upload anything. I should get more up soon.

  • Top stuff. 1986 is my favourite F1 season, & the year i first went to the British GP (aged 9) It would be great to see more!!

  • Nice. I should have some 1989 stuff up soon. Then ill try to get more 86 stuff up for you.

  • The first Grand Prix after I was born, held in Sunday 25th of May 1986 (me born in Wednesday 21st :)

  • thanks so much for putting this up!!

  • Thanks.
