  • POPCORN454545 is wrong! How old are you?

  • Yeah kevinthompson13 your a dumbass. No one saved Rush besides themselves. Even stated in their own documentary, the record company tried to manipulate them into more radio friendly music because Caress of Steel wasn't as big as they all had hoped. I mean, you can tell that from the whole storyline of 2112! The only reason they went more into a synth era or a more soft era was simply because the wanted a change in themselves to test themselves. Hemispheres wore them down so they decided enough

  • That's fantastic-the voice- the 80ties Synti- and the guitars

    I think live it's unbelievible

  • C'mon..,Its RUSH!!!

  • 6 people need to born again!!!

  • Amazing

  • "This song is originally from the "Hold Your Fire" album." No its not its from Power Windows you derp.

  • @POPCORN454545

just goes to show how fallible memory is, I've got power windows on my Ipod, right here *squints* MANHATTAN PROJECT

  • @FeelingFreshSon Yeah lol.

  • @FeelingFreshSon He probably went to wikipedia before hand to get his facts straight. lol

  • if there is a better group than rush...never heard them.alex, neil and geddy are the best ever.ever.

  • one of my fav later rush tunes

  • Comment removed

  • Neil you are a god.

     i love you guys.

  • Think he should have aspired to a greater level of guitaring than the Edge, to be honest. Can't stand U2, Bono is a cock, the Edge - what's with the moniker! - is an overrated guitarist and their music is a wank stain that never dries. Like the Police though

  • Lifeson ridiculously underrated

  • @SteveSparx only by people, who don´t know shit about rush or how great a player alex really is.. lifeson is a living legend..he already kicked ass in 70´s, even before guy´s, like eddie van halen, burst on to the scene..

  • @extradutyfelt1 amen

  • @97iliketrains amen

  • im a half century old.i like alot of rock bands.there is no group on earth like these 3 great immortals.they are in my opinion the best ever perhaps.

  • Had these guys not been changed by Polygram they never would have evolved into legendary status. Some people have issue with that. I do not.For ONE SINGLE TIME EVER, a record label got something right. NINE AMAZING ALBUMS PROCCEDED OUT OF THAT. To me, that is the "real' RUSH.The 70s stuff was spacey and strange much like 70s YES and like RUSH they also became MUCH BETTER in the 80s.We should all respect the issues and work that this band represents. Its a very formidible library. They are good.

  • Whoever found them first, would be sure to do their worst, Colin McKinnell...

  • 是非とも日本に来て演奏して欲しい曲です。

  • Seems like they are rushing it but the time shows no rushing at all I guess I'm not used to it......

  • you made a mistake in the description, AShowOfHandsDVD: this song is original from Power Windows, not Hold Your Fire.

  • I learn more from listening to this song than from my history class!!!

  • 66 years ago today, August 6th, the Enola Gay flew out of that shockwave. "Imagine a time..."

  • For Discussion: If you were tasked with dropping this bomb as an Air Force Officer in the WW2 would have done it?

I hate to be hateful but the Japanese got what they deserved not to mention what they did in China. It's a sad fact that their government was responsible and unfortunately the civilians had to suffer.

Tibbets (The Commander of Enola Gay) states he no regrets. I'm not sure I could live with that.

  • @Ionizap lol. It was Army pilots. There was no air force in WWII. And I would have no problem following orders :p ( I was in the navy for 6 years)

  • @Ionizap

Well, of course I would. It would have been my duty and given us a chance of ending the war faster. That's what being a soldier is all about.

  • @chitoryu12 Ending the war faster??? That's a joke.

War had always ended a few weeks before. Nukes on Japanese cities were nothing but a useless, arrogant terroristic act, worst than 9/11....

  • @sgonadz

So......what were the Japanese doing making plans to defend the home islands against invasion if the war was over? Was it for fun?

  • @chitoryu12

You can find the answers in your words: Defend and Invasion.

However, no real war plans were possible, simply because the Imperial Navy was almost destroyed, and only a few ships with low defensive/offensive potential were still available.

The nukes, as i said before, were useless and can not be justified by real military needs.

  • @sgonadz

The Navy is completely pointless in this debate, because it wasn't about whether or not they could defend Japan; the nukes weren't exactly being dropped on ships at sea.

The problem was the fanatic defense that had been planned, up to the point of asking schoolchildren to throw themselves under tanks. It would have not only resulted in a massive amount of civilian deaths, but also just as many American ones.

  • @sgonadz Hey dumbass get your facts straight! The war in Europe, VE-Day was in May 1945 -that war ended but the U.S. was still fighting the Imperial Japanese until they finally surrendered AFTER the two bombs were dropped on August 6th & 9th respectively -V-J Day was in September for the U.S. -that is, Victory over Japan Day. You really are a dumbass for comparing 9/11, a terrorist act against us, to us using atomic weapons to end a war that Japan wanted to keep fighting -fucking dumbass!

  • Really pisses me off that fucks like you exist -please move to China or Cuba or some other communist country so the rest of us can rest easy knowing a fucking moron like yourself, who has NO fucking idea about history -real history, is being told what to do, like the mind-numb robot you are. You're probably a fucking liberal -you know what -just crawl in a hole and die... worthless shithead!

  • @deathmetalstrength

    Dear,

before starting a recitation of your History lessons, you should know that Japan sued for stopping the war, asking for a Soviet mediation, even before the Potsdam Conference. But maybe that's not written in your "REAL HISTORY FOR DUMMIES" book. I do have an idea of what History is, I'm not filled with "Stars, Stripes and McDonald's" bullshit like you. And I do know the meaning of terms, such as "Liberal". Please buy a dictionary and learn something, before posting.

  • fantastic classic

  • This song is from Power Windows, not Hold Your Fire.

  • Brilliant!

  • Oppenheimer is my hero!!

  • @arrow22a

Oppenheimer, though unbelievably brilliant, was emotionally cold as ice. He always said that he loved that desert, it was his 'passion', and yet blew it and anything around it back to primeval beginnings?....yikes. Strange how cerebrally brilliant people can be so lacking and disconnected in other arenas of their personality. Reminds me of "Hemispheres"--one side of the human brain in comparison to the other. Fascinating discussions are always brought from this. :)

  • @masquesandmirrors Oppenheimer is why I make 100,000$ a year as a reactor operator now. :)

Brilliant people usually lack communication skills. A lot of it is a disconnect because they dont know how to relate to someone less intelligent then themselves.

  • 5 people are Japanese

  • @TheMLW71 hahaha Im not yet I dislike rush as u know!

  • @punkorx97 yeah, mmk, hater

  • I have the Hold Your Fire CD, Manhattan Project isn't on it >.>

  • can't wait for the time machine tour

Not too sure. It’s hard to hear and uses a lot of feedback

  • I'll never understand how Japan thought they could take on the industrial might of the US. I guess they thought the US would be occupied with Germany.

Yamamoto himself had reservations as he had visited the US as a Naval Officer.

Even without the Atomic bombs the US would of prevailed although invading the Japanese homelands would of been a dirty fight.

  • @Ionizap Japan never expected to defeat the US in a long drawn out war. Their plan was to cripple the US Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor and capture as many islands as possible and be in a strong defensive position within six months. The Japanesse had a better navy than the US and thought if they could win a few battles they could get the US to surrender. Before World War 2 Japan's navy had not lost a battle in 200 years, but they new if they weren't ready within six months the US would win.

  • @Signalsist I wasn't aware the Japanese had a better navy than the US at the time of Pearl Harbor. I can't imagine that the Japanese would of imagined they make the US surrender after a few battles. Could you point me towards a few sources for that? Thanks.

  • @Ionizap They were under the impression if they crippled our navy, we'd have no way to wage war across an ocean. Unfortunately for them, we had more then 1 navy base lol. I wouldnt say they had a "Better" navy before the bombings, but afterwards they did. They had poor admirals, and we won a few key battles and sunk several of their air craft carriers tipping the battles in our favor.

  • @Ionizap the atom bombs saved millions of lives on both sides. :-/

  • @JgHaverty that's like saying hitler made german ecomony boom.......just because it saved life by wasting it, doesn't mean it's an instrument of peace, it's an instrument of destruction. the best thing that could've saved lives was not beginning a war, instead of ending it.....i guess the complexity of human life isn't as black and white as my view though.......

  • @leiposuctie Well...... war was already going on. Whats better? drag that shit out or end it and stop the destruction?

  • @JgHaverty fair deuce

  • @JgHaverty My post didn't make that clear but despite what some Historians say I agree.

  • I'll never understand how Japan thought they could take on the industrial might of the US. I guess they thought the US would be occupied with Germany.

Yamamoto himself had reservations as he had visited the US as a Naval Officer.

  • Edward Teller was a raving psychotic, and his rival, Oppenheimer was too.

  • I gotta hear this live again .

  • My favorite Rush song. Our nuclear efforts were amazing. Sad it was a lost generation, "imagine a man, when it all began. Pilot of Enola Gay flying out of the shockwave,"

  • Fuck you humanity... please, go fuck ourselves. H.A.A.R.P. is the new Manhattan Project.

  • The notes here say that this is originally from HYF. It is actually not from HYF but "Power Windows." Amazing song, a classic forever.

  • 5 people are cold-hearted killers...rush ftw

  • Comment removed

  • Monster fill @ 4:18 JEEEEEEESUS!

  • @Delgift apology accepted.

  • If you guys REALLY like 80s RUSH, do you know there are current bands that are like this ON STEROIDS? Its gone WAY past Dream Theater. Nightwish (Amaranth= 43million views), EPICA, Edenbridge, DELAIN, Sabaton, Evergrey, Leaves Eyes. The list is just too long. I loved the 80s RUSH style and comp. Show of Hands tour was their best. Hold Your Fire, Big Money, and Power Windows were featured, the 3 best cds. Newest. stuff sucks. You got to check out these other bands. I can hear Rush influence .

  • @kevingthompson13 Rush influenced rock =/= Rush on steroids. Rush is the influenced stuff on steroids.

  • @iAmPesukone That statement just sounds ignorant. Either you are a music lover or a band fan. A music lover appreciates many different artists and groups.A band fan simply FIXATES on one. You sound fixated. Its like all those Pink Floyd worshippers.Dont dare say a word contrary, or dont dare compare these gods to any body....Zeus may be a god, Jehovah is GOD, Rush and Pink Floyd are just bands.Rush is good, they had some great moments/albums, there are others as good or actually better.

  • @kevingthompson13 You judge me by one short comment on Youtube. I don't even listen to Rush that much and my musical taste includes pretty much anything from mathcore and tech death to soft easy listening pop and political rap. In between these there are Rush, other progressive music, techno, reggae, etc...

  • @iAmPesukone Yeah I JUDGED YOU for that smart ass comment I realized you made to me a month ago.My point was that although the genre fathers like Rush were really good, some of the newer bands had taken the torch and far progressed it to being like RUSH on steroids. Its totally true.I watch videos from Show of Hands often. However, there so many european bands of the symphonic/progressive genre now that you cant even count them.My channel exposes people to these past & PRESENT.

  • @kevingthompson13 And I happen to prefer Rush. Is there a problem?

  • @iAmPesukone Hey Im fine with the band myself. Its just that there are some other great bands. Some of them were very influenced by the RUSH progressive/symphonic genre. I am a follower of talent. Geddy, Alex, & Neil are 3 very talented guys. Its hard to believe only 3 make all that sound.Anyway, I wasnt trying to start a fight, only trying to get people to realize who some of these great current bands are.You know RUSH was not appreciated in their time.I dont like that, dont want same for others.

  • @Delgift Hate to tell you guys, but Tom Scholtz and Brad Delp of BOSTON were MIT grads that invinted the devices responsibe for the RUSH sound which is why the early Rush stuff is so different. Tom and Brad literally changed the face/sound of synthesizing and guitar sound. YES, Journey, ASIA and others totally benefited. Every time I hear Dream Theater, I hear sounds that were not possible BEFORE Tom and Brad. Techno junkies stick together. Geddy LOVES his gadgets. BOSTON does too.

  • @Delgift I was planning on going to see them last fall, and when I googled tour info/news, I got a link that was at the official RUSH site where mr geddy was going into detail about "his new awakening". Apparently Alex became one too. Mr friend Richard is drum tech for them and he confirmed at ProgPowerUSA where I see him each year. Google Geddy Lee/WICCA and look for wicca site. You will fing him PROMINENTLY listed. Before last year, I believe this was only roumer. Now it is true. Tour bombed.

  • @Delgift Hello smart person! You got it backwards bigtime! Alex Lifeson is a good 7 years older than "The Edge" and has been playing professionally 7 years before U2 even had a recording contract and believe me kiddo, Alex would never go as low as to saying that "The Edge" was an influence to him at any time in his career. Now, i like some of U2's music and "Edge" puts some nice guitar work into their music but Alex rocks with 6 strings while "Edge" noodles with only 1 with added effects. Sad.

  • @RangRing68 80's RUSH is not original Rush to most ALTHOUGH IT IS MUCH BETTER. U2 among others did affect these guys, though not totally, as quite a bit of RUSH is their own style. The bass/percussion is very remniscent of JOSHUA TREE. Other than that, Rush was influenced somewhat by YES, and I think visa versa. These 2 were the original progressive symphonic bands. Dream Theater, Nightwish, etc all owe everything to these and a little bit to ASIA.

  • @kevingthompson13 Wrong about U2 having an influence on Rush. As far as symphonic bands you forgot to mention early Genesis "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" for example WOW! Also Emerson Lake and Palmer, you missed them also.

  • @kevingthompson13 Rush influenced by U2??? What planet are you on? Bass/percussion reminiscent of Joshua Tree? Sounds fuck all like anything U2 have ever created! Some of what you've said is true but the U2 thing is rubbish I'm afraid.

  • @irena7777777 You still havnt grasped the change that happened that SAVED RUSH as a band.Mercury FIRED THEM. Polygram was looking for a band that could perform the new sound for them like U2 and REM was doing. It was the "Conscientious" movement.NOTHING RUSH DID SINCE is anything like Rush in the 70s.That was fantastic actually and led to 9 incredible records.9 records they would never have produced if they WERNT ASKED TO WRITE SONGS LIKE REM & U2.Its history dude. You just got schooled.

  • @kevingthompson13 No I didn't! You just made a bunch of shit up and expect me to believe it's kosher! So, you're telling me that Rush haven't made songs like Xanadu and LVS since the 70's? Utter bullshit! Sometimes I hear a resemblance to REM, nothing too extreme, but NEVER U2! And that's only because it's impossible to be a band and not write some stuff that sounds vaguely like the work of another band.Every band is guilty of that. Jong de Jong sound similar to Van Halen, but not deliberately

  • @irena7777777 Now I know you have read ALL THE COMMENTS HERE that are virtually the same as mine. Its all known.Polygram Records saved that band.We all know this and love the result. Their first PG album Permanent waves started something big and even this song here was a result of that.It was songs ABOUT REAL THINGS and issues. It was conscious music like REM and U2.Before that, they were seen as a fringe band and had a cult following. Now they have many mainstream followers.BE GLAD and enjoy!

  • @kevingthompson13 You obviously know nothing about this band! They've never allowed themselves to be manipulated by a record company, it is a strictly "Hands Off" policy the band rigidly adheres to concerning their creative process. Nobody "saved Rush" but Rush! However, Alex has publicly stated his admiration of Edge and his approach to chordal arrangements and use of effects, and Neil and Geddy have both stated their admiration for what the Police were doing at that time period. Good influence

  • @6strngz440hz Hey snot nose....I have followed that band since Fly by Night album. If you bothered to check me out YOU WOULD SEE HOW INVOLVED WITH ALL THESE PEOPLE I AM. Its what I do. What I said about RUSH was and is absoluley true. Since is was not detrimental, WHY DID IT BOTHER YOU? Its just history thats all. Everybody needs some professional guidance from time to time. They are brilliant musicians, at that time they were just into some styles that would not have carried over to today.

  • @irena7777777 Lifeson said often in interviews that he was influence by U2 The Edge and The Police in the 80's

  • @satamique Yeah, the police in the 80's were a force to be reckoned with, and it wasn't as strict then so they could use their truncheons more often...don't know what that has to do with Lerxst though!

  • @irena7777777 lol! You have a good sense of humour! I have a lot of guitar magazine who have interviews with Lerxst and he was blown away when he first heard the song "Roxan" by the band "The Police" in term of guitar playing and very clean guitar sound, he said the samething for the guitarist of U2!

  • This was their ALL TIME BEST TOUR, financially, culturally, and socially. It is legendary. these days Geddy occupies much time foolin around with withchcraft (no joke here either) instead of with his music composition. As a result, the current fanbase is droppind like a rock. Last year, after HIS announcement that he was officially a wiccen (witch), their US tour was not even reaching half capacity in most venues. Anyway, if you like this song, try RED SECTOR A ;same tour. They were great.

  • This song is off Power Windows, not Hold Your Fire.

  • Does this feel considerably fast for anyone else?...I mean, in comparison to the original?

  • This is one of the best songs about a historical subject/event! I'm a HUGE rush fan, as well as a history buff, so this one of my favorite songs. I just wish they'd perform it again. I wasn't born yet when they did this tour...... But I wish I was! I missed all the great concerts, and am stuck with all the horrible rap music.... Being born in the 90's sucks when you love rock&roll......

  • "If you give a monkey a bone sooner or later said-monkey will bash in another monkey's brains with it."

  • In the spirit of Christmas, join my new band "Shepherds Quake", at the site, followinging yonder schtick.

  • RIGHT LET'S STOP MESSING ABOUT!!

Try playing Lee's bass lines (and singing) simultaneously, Lifeson's guitar riffs/arpeggios and solos, and finally Peart's syncopated drum rhythms. None of the above is easy to perform.

The "musicians" in many of the so-called bands of today would be completely and utterly out of their depth i.e. bands like say McFly or U2. Rush's complicated awesome music could well be described as being on a "timeless wavelength"!!

    Does anyone else agree?

  • @ecapa0020 Just FYI, U2 started about 7 years after Rush formed, so U2 is NOT a new band, they just re-invent themselves every 5 years or so. I like Rush and U2. Two bands with different style and sound, but both musically talented.

  • @ecapa0020 ....in some cases- but like everything else humans are progressing and if you look at the talent in sports as well as music, the abilities have increased.it is a question of the type of music you are talking about-look at a band like minus the bear- some are calling it math rock- this takes nothing away from rush- these guys are incredible musicians......

  • what a fuc**** good song !!!! hell yeah....

  • This song is originally from "Power Windows."

  • The a-bomb was mostly a fear weapon. It had to scare the japenese into hating the war. We all know more people would die during an invasion. Plus the continus bombing raids would destroy many more cities. I am not looking for an arguement I just felt that my opinion would be valid in the situation.

  • life begins when alex sings :)

  • "BEEP" you dolphin "BEEP" you whale!

  • I love the fact that Neal did the research on this song... The U.S. using the two bombs saved lives, thousands in fact... Many people don't agree but I'll tell you this most of the American body hasn't had the guts to fight a war since world war two...we just gone through the motion....we need to support our troops 100% and let them do what they are trained to do...The media needs to stay out of it... Our troops would be much safer....

  • Some people say that what the US did was genocidal. Well, Japan shouldent of attacked the US. Japan asked for it.

  • Markcip1- There I thought, "what an intelligent reply," then you went the way of Hirohito, the assumption being that because I prefer less U-235 with my tea, that I am a moron. I live "in the secrecy of the desert sand" RUSH sings about so, if you're lucky my cancer will ease your pain over China's misfortune. You could also read back thru some of my other replies to folks like you & find that maybe I'm not quite THAT stupid. What an attractive word for adults to use. Sorry I can't bow to it.

  • @SierraDotYAY I agree with you, exactly. In fact the U.S. has not won a war since WWII (i.e. Korea - a stalemate, Vietnam - a loss, Iraq - waste of time, Afghanistan - another waste of time. The only way to "win" a war is by first conquering and then occupying territory. And then totally take over their economy. Now I'm not pro war by any means but if you are going to fight one then it has to be done right otherwise you lose face as the U.S. has. Then you get challenged by all the piss ants!

  • It is notable that after the test fire, Oppenheimer thought of a Hindu scripture that was,"Now I Have Become Death. The Destroyer of Worlds." -Robert Oppenheimer

  • You can't be so one-sided on matters such as this. If you say we should never have dabbled in the field of nuclear energy, then you have to think about the number of casualties that would've occurred if America had to invade Japan. Nuclear energy, also, does not have to be thought of as merely a weapon. It is one of the most powerful, efficient means of obtaining energy that we know of and it could be the used in space-craft one day that will take us to the stars.

  • neil peart is THE best drummer in the world, u disagree than u can go eat a dick

  • I, as an American, am proud of my country's role in creating the first Atomic weapon and for using it to end a war that had taken tens of millions of lives......

We made the world free and that is nothing to apologize for....eh?

  • @Moonmourner Proud to kill civilians?

  • @psychopoison

Proud to kill less civilians than there would have been. The Japanese had a massive defense of the home islands planned, including using civilians as expendable tank killers. An invasion would have resulted in many millions of casualties, including a very large number of civilians.

War is never a black and white morality situation. As horrific as it may seem to someone who doesn't understand the context and alternative, the bombings were the right thing to do.

  • @psychopoison Well said, for what its worth to anybody. My great uncle was murdered at Bougainville Island in that war and I hate it but two or more wrongs are NOT the way to make a right, because of what we created over here, look what North Korea is capable of now. Is Kim Ill Jung (sp) crazy enough to follow through with the threat or not? And Iran? One crazy person with access and what will happen?

  • An honest perspective. Leave it to Canadians to teach Americans their own history.

  • Pert claims to have read seven books about the bomb before writing this song. I like the guy, but Classic Comics has more facts than this song. Bottom line: The bombs saved lives. And if you don't want a war,, don't start one.

  • @B17MIKE That's probably true about Classic Comics. But the songs on this album were intended to be short vignettes on the theme of power. I'm impressed that Rush distilled the history of the atom bomb into a 5-minute rock song. If nothing else it's a starting point to learn more about the history.

  • @B17MIKE Right on the money........A main land invasion of Japan was scheduled for November 1945 with a projected loss of up to a hundred thousand more allied soldiers. Like it or not, the A bomb saved countless lives, and The Japanese were ruthless in the torture and killing of civilians and soldiers alike. People should read about the Bataan Death March before they make uninformed posts. The Japs started the war, and we finished and won it. The Atom bomb was the right choice.

  • I hate pride and nationalism. It's immature.

  • @Tengent Pride wy hate it but nationalism pisses me off

  • @Annonymus121 I don't think they are very different. Pride just seems irrelevant to me personally. Others may need it at some points in their lives but I don't need it anymore. "I'm proud to be who I am/what I do/whatever you have pride in." That's good for you. I got past that I'm no better than anyone else due to the circumstances people are born in and numerous other variables. Does that make sense?

  • wow just brilliant

  • This a great Rush song that never quite gets it's due credit, much like Rush itself! Great lyrics, great instrumental pieces (especially Alex's guitar riffs) and a signature Rush sound.

  • is there any guitarists who could answer one question: how to get that awesome clean guitar sound? love it!

  • Ahh, I remember growing up in the late 90's/early 2000's, thinking that all music was shit...

  • Ayn Rand wouldn't like "The Big Money" or "Closer to the Heart" very much, would she?

  • Ayn Rand was a tweaker, AM - don't put down Rush that way. Ayn Rand's "free market" was just cover for aristocratic privilege. She's the kind who sends children to fight wars over oil - not that she'd ever risk her life. Alan Greenspan's love goddess - and that worked well, didn't it?

  • best live band ever

  • One of my favorite songs other than Free Will...love these guys even if they are Canadian....eh

  • August 6, 1945

  • Anyone wanting to know the 'inspiration' behind Neil Pearts lyrics? Start reading Ayn Rand. A good place to start would be - The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged. You'll find both these books on Amazon or somewhere very cheap! The philosophy in Ayn's writing is 'objectivism', based on FREEWILL! (Another great Rush song)! Just google Ayn Rand. (You can even see her being interviewed here on YouTube). Maybe then you'll understand a little more about Neil Peart's lyrics. Hope this helps.

  • @AxlMidas Who is John Galt?

  • @AxlMidas Neil and Ged said, yes, they liked Ayn Rand and "The Fountainhead" the concept of "1984" and "Big Brother" but those were only a tiny amount of the influences on Neal's lyrics. His interest in History, World Wars I & II, The 3rd Reich, Hitler and concentration camps.-cont.

  • Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem “Kubla Khan," the influence behind "Xanadu." The entire story of how the Manhattan Project went down, from building to dropping the first atomic bombs, his great love of classic cars and motorcycles, hence "Red Barchetta."His interest in Vampires and the song "Necromancer" that came from it. His interest in space, the universe, galaxies, worm holes, leading to "Cygnus X-1."

  • J.R.R.Tolkien and "The Lord of the Rings." A lot of science fiction, then to the opposing medieval fantasy. The philosophies of Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche. Neil Peart has been through dozens of phases of hardcore interest in so many levels of literature it would be less than fair to attempt to pigeon hole or label him with ANY of the different phases that come and go with Neal-cont.

  • All one can say is that he seems to find something fascinating in almost ANYTHING he gives a little time to. He has a brilliant literary mind and a talent for drumming that is unsurpassed. He has a wonderful character and depth of intellect. His own book is great also, "Ghost Rider" Neil, Geddy and Alex FOREVER!

  • What is the deal with Geddy's voice on this tour? Is he auditioning for the Neverending Story soundtrack or something?

  • Hay algo mejor que rush? que placer para mis oidos.....

  • Rush is so fucking awesome!!!!

  • ytpya, (re:bad lyrics) Peart brews an unusal intelligence into Rush's repertoire that many never discover. Maybe their vocabulary isn't extensive enough to thoroughly enjoy Peart. I believe Neil could publish a collection of short stories and poetry that would fly off the shelves for the next 20 years... not to mention how cool it would be to actually see some CGI guru produce a Red Barchetta short film.

Rush is rock for people who think... I wouldn't expect that to be a majority.

  • @Motoferde iagree, but i would love to see a rock opera type thing made from 2112, since the who did Tommy. but Neils lyrics are extremely intelligent.

  • @ipvideogames About the rock opera thing... It's been done!! I'm a big Rush fan (was part of The Glaswegian Chorus on Closer To The Heart, from Exit Stage Left album). I'm also a big Queen fan. But I believe the stage production of 'We Will Rock You' by Ben Elton, might just have 'borrowed' an idea from 2112!!! Check it out, and see what you think...!!!

  • In 100 years Rush will be the most relavent thing that ever happened in music from this last 50 years. People just don't realize it yet.

  • when i first heard this song it made me cry thats how good this song is (at least in my head)

  • @Destroer666 When I first heard this song I had a nervous breakdown and jumped out of a 20 story building. That's how good this song is.

  • Japan fought ruthlessly and refused to surrender so we did what was needed

  • Fools try to wish it away....I believe that line says it all about those who are "ashamed" of what the US had to do to defeat Japan.

  • Not to nitpick with the video, but Albert Einstein was not a member of the Manhatten project.

  • @unknownkingdom he wasn't directly but Teller and Szilard persuaded him to lend his name and prestige to a letter to President Roosevelt in 1939 which essentially got the Manhattan Project rolling. Funding was granted so that Fermi could begin experiments at the University of Chicago with uranium. Without his influence the Manhattan Project would likely have been delayed a couple years.

  • he wrote a letter to president roosevelt informing him that such a weapon was possible, leading to the creation of the manhattan project... and you can nitpick all you want!

  • i'm gonna have a good time, come hell or high water

no matter what the hopeless may say

  • For what it's worth, I, as an American, deeply apologize to Japan and the rest of the planet for my country's major role in the Manhattan Project. The Enola Gay, Fat Man, and Little Boy are a horrible part of my country's governments history. I live only a few miles from Trinity Site the White Sands Missile Range, where the first test fire took place and I will NEVER be proud of that.

  • @Satonica Have you ever heard of the Rape of Nanking, China? When Japanese soldiers pillaged, burned and brutally raped and murdered THOUSANDS of innocent Chinese? Ever heard of the Batan Death March, where Japanese soldiers marched hundreds of American soldiers for miles then brutally killed them? Truman did what he had to do- which was stop a growing power of evil. I believe we did what had to have been done.

  • @skimtildeath32 I have and I am in NO way UNpatrotic regarding anything our military has been ordered to do by the Commander in Chief, it just cuts a little close because my home area was the hub of activity in building WMD's. I hope we never have to be forced into making a decision like that ever again because it, the events here in New Mexico, does not make me proud, but as I said, I will always support while at the same time being very sorry to all the innocents caught in the cross fire.

  • @skimtildeath32 I accept that our hand was forced. My uncle was murdered by the Japanese at Bouganville Island too. I just wish there had been another answer.

  • @Satonica --Yep, I erred back 3 months ago when I made that mistake, which is funny, because I know clearly in my brain, and new it when I did that post, yet, kind of like one of those days when you swear it's Thursday no matter how many times you are told or see it written, you just can't get out of your head that it is only Wednesday. One of the more annoying things my brain likes to do to me, I have lost count of how many posts have been left here telling me how wrong I am, & I know, -cont.

  • but I think we've hit overkill, folks. I left the post up because I find value and relevance outweighing my error confusing."Hold Your Fire" with "Power Windows."MY Scale of Justice has tipped over completely in my favor.Toss another jelly bean on YOUR side and my side still won't move 1 iota. I've been punished enough. You folks are relentless. LoL! I'd LOVE it if Ged, Lex or Neil posted me a good scolding. THAT I could handle, but I hope the rest of you will accept my heartfelt apology AGAIN.

  • @Satonica My father was at "operation crossroads" For both able and baker.

Fatman and littleboy were needed. Sorry but they were. And yes I do know history.

It is easy to set back 50 years later and "armchair" & say this and that.. The truth is it was bad, but needed!!!!
