Best rocket jumping tutorial there is :) And all that shit is still possible lol. Watch the channel of the video this that is on (Pilotstyle123). If anything it's more possible now that rocket jumping has been explored to it's limits.

No, but he does this to get extra height.. You might need to shoot rockets before to land to get up that high.

You need to shoot slightly in front of you. Rockets (and everything for that matter) have no momentum transferred to them by your motion, so you might be going faster.
