  • you sound like cleveland from family guy

  • Don't make anymore videos. You just made me stupider. .......

  • This guy thinks of everything.

  • i got mine at the dollar store

  • how much did u pay for the eco-twist?

  • I will stick with my Maglight, im sure the batteries will outlast a survival situation.

  • hand crank to recharge your cellphone batteries

  • Thank god theres such an expert on flashlights for when I need one in the middle of the night! And if only I would have known to use something like a plastic clip!! Thank you for this video!

  • Do I detect a little sarcasm in your comment? Lmfao.

  • very nice! but i check on the website, and it said about 30 seconds of cranks will get 10 mins of light

  • i've bought a few types of those, and i barely use them, but after a year or so they all had problems .the one i still have in use,is one that has a solar backup,i had that since y2k. now if they tighten up the durability of the batteries/circuitry,it would be alot better.

  • Fantastic 5 stars all the way keep up the good work

  • Walmart sells hand crank flashlight for $12 I bought three.

  • Just curious if EDC is giving you some sort of sponsorship?

  • Great idea Kevin thank's 5*

  • Where can you find a good tough quality MOLLE pack for cheap>

  • Try a hybrid light. It has both solar and battery.

  • I totally agree Having a hand crank flash light definitely makes life easier. Kevin makes some of the best videos on survival.

  • cool i didn't know they made them

  • You, dood, are one practical fellow!

  • I always carry my Fenix E01. One AAA battery last for 20 h, minimal size and very dureable. For 20 hour runtime with your handcranked flashlight your crank time is 2 hours (1) and you gotta stop every 10 minute!

  • in a worst case scenario, where you wouldn't be able to buy replacement batteries, the crank prevails. that's what this guy is all about.

my personal suggestion, would be to have 1 of each, and use the batteries when convenient, but then if the time comes you need it and have no batteries, the crank one is there in an emergency.

i'm gonna check out the light you mentioned here though, thanks.

  • I'd rather carry a smaller LED and just put new batteries in before you leave on your trip. Unless you hike at night you only use your flash light for short time every night. So if you do the math an 8 hour battery life is good for sometimes up to a week.

  • Great tip for a spot to put your flashlight. Thanks.

  • I personally like having a shaker charge flashlight, you can use the magnet in the light to magnetize a piece of metal for a improvised compass, I disassemble and mark the north and south sides of the magnet.

  • Yeah, but if you're carrying anything like a drivers license, credit/debit card, etc... it can cause significant problems. In a disaster, I wouldn't probably choose a light like that. In a long-term collapse situation, that might be different.

  • that's why I carry that stuff separate, either on me or in another pocket.

another thing, shake lights can be used with one hand/arm, you need two for a crank.

  • Yeah, but if you forget, you have a problem. Not worth the risk to me. And not all cranks take two hands. They make some with what amounts to a trigger on it that can be operated by a single hand. I suppose the most important thing is that everyone is comfortable with what they are carrying.

  • and not relying on one thing.

  • Ya I like the crank flash lights too. I have a few. They are pretty inexpensive. Grate for black outs and earthquakes. A black out is a bad time to find out your batterys are dead.

  • great idea, very simple. simple is always the best. thank you so much

  • Which pack is that in the vid? I looked like a nice day pack. Keep posting great vids!!

  • i do not like flashlights i dunno maybe its me but i usually have a fire and or if its dark and you light up well your just a beacon out there for strangers depends where you are for this purpose if i needed one id go with a tiny ass pocket led they take no space and you can carry and extra battery if you like but those little shits last a long time ive got one i nver changed the bat yet for about a year now but then again maybe its not practical depending on circumstance and what u need it for

  • I agree. I have had all kinds of flash lights in the passed 35 some years. and some thing always happens to them, like the kids, I have one that is throw away in my pick-up, I can't think of it's name right now, but you can sit it on it's end, and it will shine on what you are doing. They last about 8 hours, but have a shelf life of about 2 years. if you like I can send you the name later, just a little brain dead right now.

  • good stuff

  • If it's going into a bob or kit you're going to forget about for months on end, a regular light and batteries is a more reliable option, or a good supplement to the wind up light.

  • i prefere a good led light with litium batterys litiums are great for low temps and some leds lights can last like 24 hours a light i carry the fenix p1d in my pocket on my keychain

  • Sorry, my pack is in the vestibule, my headlamp/flashlight is in the gear loft within arm's reach, not in my pack outside the tent. Hard to hike with proper poles and hold a flashlight, if you are doing real backpacking or hiking in rough terrain. We're not amateurs here.

  • I wish someone would make a good heavy duty crank flashlight. I am talking like a maglite quality. Everyone I have seen is made out of plastic and would not take much of a pounding. Good vid Kev. Thanks

  • i was in antartica for the dark season and over 3 months got rsi from using this

  • ??? r-s-i ???

  • Hey man, your videos get enough views that you could be getting this equipment for free, ya know!

  • maybe you could do a review on that flashlight & test how well it really works with 1 minute crank time

  • what i would do is buy my self two flash lights one that uses batteries and the other that uses dynamoes that way i dont have to keep cranking it before going out

  • These are very useful. I have one myself. Got it from LLBean.

  • Hey, just catch a lot of horny fireflies and put them in a jar :) lol

I have three crank flashlights I got at home depot on sale for about $10 by Smart products, they are pretty neat and I keep them in the cars.

  • Brilliant Video as all your videos are! :)

  • You can get a larger handcrank flashlight at Rite Aid, I forget the name of it, for about 15.00. A minute of cranking will give you 30 minutes of light. I have one and plan to get another.

With 100,000 hours on the bulbs, I should never have to buy another flashlight for the rest of my life. Can't beat that.

  • Yeah, I have a keychain light hooked up to the key lanyard thing that the bags have.

  • Good review.

I havent seen that flashlight, how much did that cost you?

    Bill

  • Cheap carabiner would work great for a clip.

  • Good thinking. I've done the same with my B.O.B.'s (every bag has it's own hand-cranked flashlight, so that you can search for stuff in your bags in the middle of the night).

    5/5

  • Say congrats to your buddy from us ;)
