@tyhicks2 The wheels were still spinning when the tach hit the rev limiter in 1st... If I shifted earlier, 2nd gear would have picked up too, out of the power band, and 0-60 would have been slower... sooo yea, I know when to shift
hey BOB do you ever get rattles and pinging sound from your nissan 2003 at 1/5k-3k RPM? I do and I don't know why. nissan tech did diagnosis and give me the problem and quote. how reliable are they?
@tainle My car used to ping around 2k rpm at half throttle... I used to have a short ram air intake that sucked in lots of hot air in the engine. I then switched to an injen intake that introduces much colder air and the pinging is gone. I also changed the intake air temperature sensor which helped a bunch. Another mod I did which helps further reduce the intake air temperature are NWP engineering phenolic spacers.
@BOB24502 the nissan tech say: there was wear inside that cause a -15degree off and should be at original +5degree. probable cause is a wear and they suggest i replace all tensioners. they printed a list of chain tensioners, tensioner, slaves tensioners. cost about $750 in part. and $1400 in labor, with taxes hit me about $2400 insane price. does this car ever need tensioners change at 100k mileages or so?
@tainle Also, if you have a rattle around 2k rpm (not a pinging), and it only happens when the engine revs down, it's most likely your pre-catalytic converter (most likely the one located next to the firewall). I had the problem. nissan quoted me $1400 to repair it... I bought the part on eBay for $280 and had a local exhaust shop put it on for $75...
@BOB24502 rattles and knocking noise when accelerating and add gas. no sounds if no gas is added. i seemed like more pulling forces cause the rattles/knocking. i took it to my friend and he did a oil flush and it a bit better but pinging is still there but not as loud as before. temperature is a big factor.
@123chunhou the "x1000 area" is the tachometer. it shows how many 360 degree turns the crank makes every minute. the red part is known as the "redline" . when your rpms are in this zone it means the motors internal parts are moving at their maximum speed and are undergoing a lot of stress. in order to get out of redline you have to change gear or let off the accelerator.
@NIGHTMAREuki Mine doesn't wheel hop either (struts seem to be pretty new on the car) but it does spin like crazy if I get on it too quick out of the hole.
@RocaFellaBryan > I used to get wheel hop too. One day I swapped my front tires with my rear tires to wear them evenly, and the wheel hop went away...
I got an 03 6speed.... I cut the intake box so it would be open at the filter but found out it works better if u also do that but keep the factory cold air induction on.... Dont know if u did that but try it...
I bough a used injen Cold Air Intake on eBay and didn't like it so what I did is I removed the factory air box, kept the cold air duct on, and installed the 3" cone air filter directly on the Mass Air Flow (right behind the battery). Engine is somewhat more responsive on mid and high range, and it sounds great!
Only drawback is when I have AC on, the fans blow hot air on the air filter, and I can feel a significant power loss :(
@123whitebizzle i did the same cutting open the airbox, i had it that way for a few months and then closed it all back up and found that it ran sooooo much better just stock. I have had many mechanics tell me that if Nissan though it would have run better that way, they would have designed it that way.
Would be better if you knew when to shift.

not really a launch but its a good way to burn rubber till 3rd gear. if ur car has enough torque..
maxboy01ae 5 months ago
@maxboy01ae I'd probably need 400+ whp to burn tires in 3rd

What did nissan tech say the problem was?

Damn! If I launch my 02 above 3 grand, I get wheelhop so bad that it breaks the engine mounts. Wow @ this launch.

Do you have a picture or video of your setup?
