i train jiu-jitsu. im just saying there are many other ways to initiate the ground fighting besides pulling guard. i prefer takedowns. either way, your guard work is sexy/ keep up the good work!
you said pulling guard is weak. so do you do judo? because a bjj competition should be on the ground. sure it starts standing up but the purpose of guard pulling is to put the fight on the ground(which is BJJ) for GUARD players. i just don't think it's right to say guard pulling is weak in a bjj tournament.
i was going for a knee bar at the end. but i think the judges/timer got confused again because this was supposed to be a 6 min match. if you look at the vid they stopped it at 5:12 or something.
and that's my wife. yeah she's really competitive and really into jiu jitsu! hehehe the perfect woman!
Yeah, he already initiated the takedown by the time you decided to pull guard. Maybe you should just sit down at the beginning of your matches from now on. Either that or try to initiate the guard pull before they try a takedown. That's why I prefer to jump closed guard.
I see that the guy went for a straight ankle lock. Are heel hooks allowed in blue belt gi divisions in Texas?
yeah it was too late when i realized that i couldnt play with him standing up because of my injured shoulder. and no, in most tournaments you can sit down right away without touching you opponent first. i prefer to start with an open guard beacause i prefer to go for submissions rather than point and i see a lot of submissions from open guard.
in most tournaments that i have been in bluebelts were allowed to go for knee bars and straight ankle locks. suprisingly in this tourney it was allowed on whitebelts too.
