This was the era I was first introduced to The Cathedral Quartet, as they were known then. Between their incredibly tight harmony, George's bass, Trammel's silky smooth baritone, and Kirk's clear voice and songwriting, they were the ultimate quartet of all time. And all this with Roger's phenominal playing and Mark's solid bass guitar. This is a video that all people can enjoy. Even those that do not normally listen to gospel music. Unbelievable!
Flat out amazing, and the recording quality is amazing too. George Younce has to be the best ever when it comes to singing bass, if anyone else is as good as he was, it will have to be a tie for being the best at singing bass. He just had an amazing control of his voice on such low notes that don't even seem humanly possible. At least he's with the Lord.
Kirk Talley was the best tenor the Cathedrals had (he's in this video). Not to take away from Dan F. or Ernie H., as they were incredible too. A modern version of this by the Dove Brothers from around 2003 is outstanding too.
That video features songs mostly from the "Distinctively" album. I'd love to post some of it, but I don't have a way to get it from VHS to a format that I can upload to Youtube.
I think you call that the results of a bad tape! In fact this video wasn't marketed because of teh flaws (or at least that what I was told). There are a number of glitches throughout the entire video.
Most definitely...I just thought it was funny how it sounded. some of the camera angles in this thing are terrible too...and Roger, bless his heart, is playing the devil out of the piano and not even a shot of him...
yes its true george had a very smooth bass voice, it came from his years singing lead in groups before his voice grew deeper. i have the tribute to george younce video, and on it he says many of the people he sang with helped him when his voice changed to sing lead, but with a deeper voice
george has a really smooth voice, almost baritonish in quality and then he drops (A1 in this clip)...in this particular song I think the bass notes don´t fit the music. the river gets hold up in it´s motion.
i love seeing these "old", lol, cathedrals videos...it gives people like me a chance to hear other songs other than their hits, which are amazing, greatest quartet that there has ever been
THE BEST!!

Maybe Kirk and Mack Taunton(one of the cathedrals 60´s tenors) were the cleanest tenors ever in this quartet...
The blondie´s voice is so much softer than Dan´s one, and really cleaner than Ernie´s.

OMG i love the lord and this group and this song and the bass person GOD BLESS!! :D

In my opinion the best formation of the group. Love Kirk, the closest thing to a natural soprano. love George. a bass with resonance and depths.

There's a few of his hands at least.

Roger always did! He will be missed.

@adkinsda the camera was messed up by George's awesomeness that's why there is so many glitches lol
