  • 'look, it's radiohead up at that window! let's freak 'em out by laying on the ground!'

  • bad quality

  • I do not understand the last part could someone please explain?

  • I think the song is representative of an attitude rather than an idea. The guy lying down is an anchor, who drags other people down to his level. He's egomaniacal, narcissistic and will do anything to create drama and attention for himself and believes his words have the power to overwhelm people.

  • @Frejia If that was the case, why did he have to be forced into telling them?

  • curiosity kills...

  • he said: I opened a Facebook profile :)

  • ignorance is bliss and people are shit

  • do not disturb the public dialogue

  • He was indignated as in Madrid, May 15...

  • This video seems to have the same theme (more or less) as Fitter, Happier.............especially at the end.

  • He said lay down or Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black are doing a duo

  • So he was planking, right?

  • You do it to yourself, you do, and that's what really hurts.

    <3

  • @LostLolli1 story of my life so far

  • I love how we've all fell into the trap of this video and constantly ask what he's saying, the irony...

  • He said Rebecca Black is coming out with an album...

  • Reminds me of Oedipus Rex, when Oedipus wants to know what the seer knows and the seer doesn't want to tell him. When the seer tells Oedipus the truth he can't take it, just like the people in the video.

  • just like my favourite monty python sketch! the funniest joke in the world.

  • ชอบมาก

  • He said: "Up there, in this building, is Radiohead playing Just"

  • Life has no meaning, but said in really convincing words that I can't imagine. That's a sufficient reason to lie on the ground and stop living.

  • An amazing song.

  • WHAT DID HE SAYYYY WAAAHHHH!!!! THIS IS FRUSTRATING!!!! >.< TELL MEEE ATLEAST GUESS :P

  • @funforeverlidz He said "just" in 24 diferent languages

  • I think its everybody expect too damn much... way too damn much

if only we could enjoy eachother company

    and our own company

just give me sum good music to fix this shit we call existance .. and fk vevo!

  • Should have the main theme for The Matrix.

  • FUCK VEVOOOOOO!!!!!

    hahaha

  • So what's the big deal ??

EA Game is about to buy Blizzard

    .............NOOOOOOOOO !!!

  • He just figured out what it's all about, why Nietzsche ended up drooling in an armchair. I've been lying here for six months now, the phone unplugged, when I can no longer afford to pay the rent I'll just lie down on the street, at that point they'll probably ask me what's wrong, diagnose me with mental disorder then drug or shock me back to work.

  • octatonic

  • anybody know to read the lips? xD i want to know wath he say XD

  • i hate it when pretentious indie freaks say he says e=mc squared ... thats bollocks. why would saying that cause such a reaction? they just say that because of their limited physics knowledge and because they're bloody pretentious. well anyway. good band

  • @liam69love i bet youre brittish. sorry i know that has nothing to do wuith annything. but idk, u sound hott

  • @MIKlovesthepies911 pff hahaha xD yeah... thanks....

  • i hate it when pretentious indie freaks say he says e=mc squared ... WHY WOULD HE CARE ABOUT THAT!?!?!? they just say that because of their limited physics knowledge and because they're bloody pretentious. well anyway. good band

  • Darn, I thought this would have sound all the way through like it did at the start I was like 'I'm finally gonna know what he says'

  • Everyone's wearing a suit! No stoners or hippies or off-duty baristas. Creepy.

No wonder they can't cheer up Will Ferrell.

  • love how there was a serious comment and funny comment in the highest rated comments!! :D haha

    <3 the bends

  • he told them the sence of life.. this is the reason we cannot find it out or we'll just be all lying and waiting for the death ..

  • I do like the way you cant read the subtitles in this vid!

  • This is one a kick ass song. All of Radioheads music is timeless. Ok Computer has not aged as far as the sound goes.

  • He said "in 5 years, Radiohead will release Kid A"

  • die hard 90's radiohead junkie!

  • i can read lips!

he said "when u listen to the ground, u can hear a bunch of radiohead songs!"

  • thom yokre is a fucking genius <3333333

  • I can't understand Radiohead.

    And I like that.

  • he said Irak had no weapons of mass destruction

  • @mozvip Iraq

  • @mozvip funny comment, learn to spell dipshit.

  • @mozvip No he didn't. He said Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction.

Almost thought you were American when I read this, lol.

  • ITS JUST SO FUCKING PERFECT !!

  • Great video! But i have no recollection of MTV ever playing this in the mid 90's.I would have remembered it.

  • I think this music video tells the story of one man who just realized the cruelty of human nature to one's self and others, and this realization manifest itself through paralyzing guilt. The worst things we as people do, we do to ourselves and each other. We are not likely to change though, as "One day I'll get to you, and teach you how to get to purest hell." we constantly cripple ourselves and others, without any awareness of it.

  • It's not Vevo! This feels like that part in Children of Men where everyone hears the baby cries, instilling hope in mankind.

  • radiohead!!!

  • just.. awesome song

  • i know what he said. he said "i actually don't have reason, i'm a character in a music video and so are you. everything we know is meant to tell a story, along with the music. the story is about how we as human beings seek answers to all questions. even the ones we can't possibly answer. so we waste our lives, and the question become the answer."

  • i dont get it, why was he lying on the pavement?

  • I believe it just represents how people seek out answers, and when they find them they wish they hadn't. Hence "You do it to yourself". The irony is that the video makes people wonder what the guy says, in spite of it being apparently a terrible thing. Ignorance is bliss i guess.

  • @tommart123 ... Comparto tu teoría a pleno

  • @tommart123 i think ignorance is bliss.. but if you know that we shud live with facts everyday, we can also be blissful without not knowing watever we can, by just living with those facts and not thinking that they shud depress you.. thery're just facts of life, science, that we can opt to know or not but it doesn't really stop us from being happy humans.. ll we think of is hurt nowadays..

  • @tommart123

Actually its about getting head screwed by the people in charge, and destroying yourself fighting against it!

  • @tommart123 good idea mate :D least pretentios answer to this video. very clever ;)

  • @tommart123 Copied word for word for facebook! Exactly what I was thinking but you nailed it!

  • @tommart123 Someone once told me ignorance wasn't bliss, how wrong they were!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @tommart123 yeah whatever dude

  • @MsWhitestripes100 whatever to you sir.

  • @tommart123 oh crap you werent supposed to make that realization, you were SUPPOSED TO STAY IGNORANT!! (everyone who reads comment falls to the ground)

  • @tommart123

    Boss tune lid, boss tune!!!!

  • what are they saying !?

  • "What happened to the 70's when you listened to music for a good time not to listen to music to get some greater meaning out of life..."

The 70s that gave us most of the early Pink Floyd albums? Really? Oh yea uma guma and Rush 2112 there's some good time party music there. Sounds like you missed the better half of that decade. Go listen to crunk if you want good time music.

  • Ya fuck music that calms you and has a meaning! I agree music shouldn't evolve it should all be the same as it was in the 70's.

  • you guys are beating yourselves up - that's what it's about. the fact that you're arguing about something that doesn't matter. you're doing it to yourselves. The reactions to this video are amazing and exactly what they wanted to get out of it. the truely hilarious part about it is - you guys still don't get it and you're still doing it to yourselves. People are so gullible and stupid - waiting for some great mystery. It's not happening kids.

  • @PoeticallyIlliterate That's what i think too! amazing!!!

  • It doesn't mean anything in itself - like life, you have to give it meaning yourself - existential angst, baby!

  • I Know the answer, but i don't know what he's saying, but exactly this is the answer.

everyone has his own thoughts about what he's saying.

If there is a ending, there wouldn't be so much room for own ideas. it's like a book with a missing page, it's only something special, because no one knows what's on the page.

    think about it !!!

  • I am going to spread the message everywhere now that I am 95% it is correct.

He is Einstein, he says e=mc squared. I saw this posted somewhere and my lipreading friend also confirmed it upon his first viewing of the video. Einstein has always regretted his discovering e=mc^2 as it lead to the development of the devastating atom bomb.

All that condensed into a song... Radiohead is genius!!! This song is so beast

  • Raidohead videos are always tough

  • "I've seen the white plane"?

  • Well...Weird video. And maybe a little scary, but it's geniously. **

  • hot

  • Here is my interpretation:

The man on the street is Jesus. In fact, the man who trips over him even says, "Jesus, are you okay?"

Radiohead, watching from above and unseeable from the street, represents God. What do you think?

  • Onlytilthen: "The man on the street is Jesus. In fact, the man who trips over him even says, "Jesus, are you okay?"

Radiohead, watching from above and unseeable from the street, represents God. What do you think? "

If not God, then angels, or perhaps just dead souls in heaven. You may be right, though. I'm not a lip-reader, though, the best I could see was "I've seen the white plane."

  • @sobeita I never would have thought of it that way. Even if the artist did intend for that to be interpreted from it, I'm still impressed. If they did, really good work sobeita.

  • What's he telling them? Wait....forget it. I don't wanna know.

  • He tells everone the meaning of life and states how our lives are insignificant and the rat race we live in is pointless.

  • TLDR - pointless, boring conversations contribute to nothing.

Video-related comment, I enjoyed this song.

  • hi? test?

  • great vid really deep

  • You need to fix your video, the sound cuts off about a minute from the end.

  • yeahh, Weird but i like it xD

  • lol who just trips over something like that

  • Weird.. But hot too

  • I think he said, we belong to The Matrix...

  • He doesn't like what society has become. But it's a dramatic way of saying it. But that's Radiohead for you. Still beautiful.

  • Why is he lying there?

  • ^^; im not sure you got the point of the vid, lol..

  • wats the name of the other band which has a smiler intro

  • i think it shows mans curiosity and at the end of the day curiosity kills the cat, and when we find the answer its not wat we expect

    simples

  • simon says lay on the concrete

  • @abcdefgpissoff

Cant agree that's what they want as much apathy as possible: Sure Radiohead didn't write this song to assist, if anything its a protest song!

Just- like 'darkside of the moon' by pink floyd....

"And if the band your in starts playing different tunes, I'llsee you on the dark side of the moon!"

  • go for his wallet...bet he's get up then

  • probably he's lying down due to severe ball ache

  • i think this video is about when people dont mind there business and get sucked in to other peoples problems or secrets...but thats just my interpretation...it all comes back to one thing...a opinion

  • but is that what the song is about too

  • he starts singing soulja boy and he kills them the same way soulja boy killed hip hop.

  • maybe it's like a cycle:

the man who laid down had pestered someone else about doing the same thing and it caused him to be this way.. maybe all of the people who laid down will now be pestered by others..

but i honestly don't think that there's a real set-out meaning behind it.. they want you to think for yourself, very good video

  • i think they dont want people to be forced to give account about everything they do.

and the people getting mad are "doing it to themself"

  • If there's nothing they particularly thought about when coming up with this (i.e. different possible meanings etc.), then there's hardly anything to "think for yourself" either.

  • whoever produces this video is a fucking genius....

  • If you listen to the lyrics and actually watch the video you'd understand it. Its talking about "Doing it to yourself" and the man is telling them over and over again that he doesn't want to tell them. But they keep insisting it and eventually they end up like him, because they did it to themselves.

    Simple d(O_o)b

  • he says 'up is the new down' hence the album on their latest cd up is the new down... he said it in an interview.

  • maybe he says : just

  • he says "i'll tell you all why i'm laying down here if you all lay down for 1 minute"

  • So he says in the end..... " I saved 15% on my car insurance by switching over to Geico"

    Or maybe he's jesus...

  • yeah, all he says is "i'll tell you why i'm lying here."

  • video killed the radio star was the buggles not radiohead

  • you literally should never listen to music again.

but don't worry, that means you can still listen to Disney bands.

  • i dont understand that video!

    its confuse..

i want to know why he was lying?? haha!

  • that's the point of the song and the video. you do it to yourself. plus now you wanna know just like the people in the video did.

  • It's easy. Its a city of racists who found out that 10 years from then, the USA would have a black president! :)

Hehe, i jest but looking at the video is kind of funny when you look at it like that.

  • down is the new up

  • you do it to yourself, u do, and thats what really hurts!

  • i know what the guy said...., but icant tell you because im lying on the paviment on this moment.

  • Everybody is ove complicating this ,the meaning is very simple. It doesn't matter what he said because there is no set of words in the english dictionary that will make us do the. The meaning of the video is the " You do it to yourself" part". The crowd around the guy brought the depression ( or whatever makes them lie down) to themeselves by not minding their own business. It's that simple. It's not the guys fault.

  • the first time i watched this video i was dying to know why he was lying on the ground lol

  • I thought the Policeman had just beaten him up for being a black haired bastard.....

  • Anyone know how to get that clean guitar sound at 3:00?

  • dont use any effects. hence the clean sound.

  • I wasn't asking effects-wise. I meant more about the setup

  • I think that in itself represents how certain lead singers are usually these type of people, and only from divulging in a manner similar to the guy does at the end can they gain acceptance. But in doing so, it can merely creates a new trend instead of inspiring individuality. In that way whilst originally being sarcastic about the main character, it starts to apply to general society, and how they'll perpetuate the cycle where theyre led by disturbed personalities

  • And basically the person involved is said to "do it themselves" just by attracting this sort of attention. Because they are closed up and unwilling to reveal this information. Essentially I think this video flips the usual end result and ends with the person persecuted being able to tell society exactly why they are the way they are, making complete sense, and society being sheep accepting it for themselves.

  • don't bend the lyrics to support your theory...

it's 'you do it to yourself'

  • It's a very sarcastic song though man. And just because it's impossible to tell what he said it doesn't make it have any less meaning, or mean it's not worth trying to know.

  • I think it's sarcastic. There are people out there that symbolically lie on the sidewalk. They have their own reasons for lying on the sidewalk and although there may be negative effects visible (like blocking the path) they have their own reasons for lying on the sidewalk. Society thinks it purely detrimental/is frustrated at not knowing why, and basically acts how the crowd acted towards the guy.

  • I dont want to sound pretentious in writing this but Tom Yorke has mentioned in interview that hes suffered from clinical depression. I too have previously been diagnosed with clinical depression and in that state of hate, bitterness and pessimism that depression brings i always imagined that if people saw things the way i did they would drop down where they were standing. I think what the video is conveying this inexpressible feeling of utterly diabilitating depression. excuse the grammar.

  • If they saw things the way depressed people do, they WOULD drop where they stand...I think SOME humans get depressed because they naturally view things from a perspective that reveals this world in a more accurate light than most would suppose.

  • I'd have to agree. even people who have a long-term battle with depression cant help but curl up at stare at the void.

  • I get it... spot on!

  • please tell me i cant figured it out!!!

  • nobody knows what the video says.... cant you see that everyone is saying "what did he said?, did he said this? that?"? but its obiusly that its all made for U people to see the video again n again

  • I think you missed the point.

  • no, that's what idiots do. it's purposefully ironic that people still want to find out what the guy said, even though it made all the people around him lie still on the ground.

  • not going to lie, I got "i drink a red banana"

  • at exactly 4:10 i think he says "...way im lying" im guessing. this time, im not off. maybe a little but not alot O_<

  • "you do it to yourself" is my guess. seems pretty straight forward no?

  • but what i dont get, why can't people who know how to leap read figure it out? :)

  • there's nothing to figure out! he purposefully made it impossible to lipread, because he didn't even say words. he could have said blah blah blah for all it's worth, not even radiohead know or care what he said.

  • I'm a massive radiohead fan, and I agree with this guy. It's an unsolvable riddle. There's nothing more to know. Kurt Cobain said that his songs, despite how much they influence people, had no meaning, and that the only meaning that one could take from a song of his was your own opinion.

Artists do it all the time. There is no right or wrong answer to this video, but its made everyone think, thus, the video has succeeded in its aims!

  • If you just make up random stuff and people start discussing it, I'm afraid you haven't really "succeeded" at anything.

  • ...unless your intention was to make people think.

Which is practically the intention of ALL art...I would like to discuss what you mean but I genuinely think you're very wrong.

  • Hey, I'm not making any particular claim about this video (I don't know enough about it), but in general:

wanting to make people think + not having put any thought into it yourself = making up random worthless stuff so people start scratching their head... over nothing.

If that's your image of the "meaning of art" to you, then hey, fine.

  • Then I wouldn't throw around with statements like "intention of ALL art" - not everyone agrees what constitutes "art", and for some, creating a complex work with lots of THOUGHT and mastery put into it is art...

while some cheap movie with lots of unresolved mysteries and no particularly brilliant thought behind it (just to make people discuss on forums) is not.

  • You are putting words in my mouth. I never said "all art is randomness put together" did I?

I said: "Practically all art is made to make people think."

All though doing it in a different WAY, this video has made people think. I haven't said anything particularly outlandish and certainly haven't said anything incorrect. Stop being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative.

  • Me:

"IF(!!!) you just make up random stuff and people start discussing it, I'm afraid you haven't really "succeeded" at anything."

    You:

"...unless your intention was to make people think.

Which is practically the intention of ALL art"

If you can't follow the basic logical implication of your response in that context, then please stop responding.

I also never said you said that "ALL art is randomness", so I guess stop with the strawmen yourself.

  • Of your response and the comment I was responding to, that is.

Hey, I don't argue it's interesting to study who some random stuff (without intended meaning, i.e. no particular reason for the creators to have made the things the way they are = random) can still produce reasonable discussions and interpretations, but does the creator deserve undisputed credit for that? Nope.

Again, nothing particularly about this video.

  • It seems to me that you don't like the fact an almost effortless method has resulted in plenty of people pondering the videos meaning.

I agree it might be cheap but the results of this effortless video are the same as many other videos or artworks that may or may not have taken vast amounts of thought and mastery.

If your target audience starts talking about your piece regardless of the methods, you've succeeded in my opinion.

  • Again, I still don't know how it was the case with this particular video, but again - if an "artist" throws out some random picture with no particularly elaborated thought behind it, and people start talking, you'll need to ask yourself WHAT they are... talking about.

They're trying to figure out the meaning of the video, right? Well, if there IS no meaning, and all the elements dicussed are chosen randomly and thoughtlessly - please tell me how that's supposed to be a compliment for the ...

  • .creators, when the people they "got to talk about" are basically talking over nothing?

I mean, hey, if "getting people to talk" is the supreme goal of making art or entertainment, then walking naked on the street is also gonna "make people talk". Will their talking be related to, or revolve around the "intellectual complexity" of my "product", still?

  • An artist at...I forget the university, filmed two friends have sex this week. Read it in the metro.

This university graduates stunt got him coverage in national newspapers. It was a meaningless, cheap piece of "art" but the amount of publicity and discussion he generated was his precise aim.

Don't shoot the messenger, if you don't agree with it take it up with an artist. But I'm stating fact, its what artists do. They're either trying to put across a message or prompt a reaction
