at 0.43-0.44 and 0.56-0.57 is this one normally fast or slow... some other karatekes make this one slow... but sensei kanazawa make fast... what the true... pls answer me
Kanzawa's performance cannot at all be compared with the one Valdesi, they are two different things: the first is pure karate spirit, a martial art meant to strenghten mind and body and to be effective. The second one is a sport, where the coreographic effect is extremely important. Is Valdesi's kata a lot more beautiful to see than Kanazawa's ? sure it is, but if there was a real fight between the two, who do you think should be more worried ? let's not mix up the martial art and the sport !

should I begin to compare him with other legends of his era? what a joke, I can almost name a dozen off the top off my head that would have crushed him without effort
I'll say it again., belts are good for holding your pants up
You can name other legends with his era that would have crushed him? Really? Please do!
1957 All Japan Karate champ, beating all of his opponents with a broken wrist. In 1965 during the world tour he had no trouble beating Enoeda, Shirai and Kase. Mikio Yahara has said that Kanazawa is absolutely the "toughest" karateka he has ever met.
It would be much appreciated if you keep comments like "my daddy is better than him" to yourself.
@mysty0 His 10th dan is awarded by the All Japan Karate Association. A body that governs all Karate styles in Japan. Plus everything mplzR is historical fact, and, to top it all off, he's a really nice guy. Do some fact checking.
My respect for Kanazawa far exceeds the respect I have for Valdesi. Although Valdesi does have good technical proficieny, in my humble opinion, his heart and souls is missing from most, if not all of his performances. To attain mastery of karate, in my persepective, one must put in his heart, spirit, soul or whatever you wish to call it, into studying the art, as well as the physical aspects demonstrated during training. Good morals and spirit are just as important as good technique.
i think that this kata is really pretty, but with the actual level executors, valdesi`s kata is more expresive, kanazawa`s kata is like every kata japanese, effective, strong, but less of beauty that sports offer today
Karate is NOT a Sport, no matter what"Sports offer".
"Training in Kata is spiritual as well as physical. In his performance of the Kata, the Karateka exhibits humility, gentleness and a sense of decorum no less than boldness and confidence, thereby integrating mind and body through a singularly unique dicipline".
In summary karate is a sport (some would say a way of life) which is unsurpassed in its potential for building both physical fitness and mental alertness. Provided that a few simple guidelines are adhered to, then the risk of injury is very small.

In this century: Karate is a sport. More than 100 years ago Karate was selfdefence, if you walked on the street and some one attacked you, you could use Karate.
i agree with what you say but tome karate was not made to become a show and wspecialy katas.they were made to help people defend themselves. so as you say this why his kata looks strong and effective .thanx
ingo1806 - now you've gotten 1000MOSHT all upset. And he is the karate police on YT (LOL). Valdesi does do an incredible kata, although my personal favorite is still Kanazawa. Someone does need to let him know (1000MOSHT) that most of what the JKA does do is as a result of them developing karate as a "Sport".
well katas arent just dancing on a mat its to show the instructor u understand the application and to demonstrate u hav proper techniques in the motion and this is a black bel kata so it would more demonstrate highly advanced techniques

kanazawa sux, he is 10° dan and i can perform this kata better than him, so i think you all can. Look at 01.23 what the hell he is doing to turn going in tsuru ashi. Its not even a traditional way to do katas, it just sux. Look Valdesi's gankaku and see the difference.
Me quedo con LUCA VALDESI tiene mas control sobre las técnicas, muchooo mejor la patada, tiene mas kime, en fin es mejor... Este sensei hasta tiembla!!! LUCA VALDESI (Nº 1 EN EL MUNDO)!!!
there's nothing called 'traditional' timing in kata - only what makes sense and what doesn't. since different things make sense to different people, especially as you find more possibilities with more study, their kata performance also varies in timing and emphasis. different interpretations however shouldn't be used as an excuse to make theatre out of kata as some do, with 'pretty' embellishments and dramatic pauses. watch people like kanazawa & yahara to really understand what kata is about
each practitioner has his own timing. i think it varies from school to school. look at the power of the tecnique. and the breathing,. this is a very important issue to me.
Valdesi's kata looks prettier thats all. Thats the difference b/w sports karate and real (traditional) karate. Traditional karate may not look as pretty but it is not s'posed to be. It is more about power, timing, feeling of the kata not prettiness.
I disagree. Valdesi may be more technically perfect, but his katas tend to be soulless. He's focused externally on his audience, rather than internally, and what he feels in the kata. Try to sense the emotion and spirit of the execution of Kanazawa versus Valdesi, and if you perceive it, you'll find Kanazawa's ultimately a more satisfying kata.
Valdesi is technically perfect? He flails his arms around like a goof half the time before he gets around to his technique (watch the way he does shuto uke). He epitomizes sport karate. Its just a shame that his unbelievable talent and skill is being wasted on such nonsense.
@calibansfury Yes. Kata "today's sport" karate seem to me a lot of machine. They lack life, devoid of spirit. Karate is primarily reflect the life and spiritual development. I'm sorry that the athletes be limited to the physical page. Michael Frajs MikySan.

Ok, perhaps this isn't kanazawa's best kata, but this is gankaku as it is meant to be, not the flashy thingy that valdesi does, the original katas were developed to improve your body and kumite (combat) techniques, not to use it as some kind of coreography (hope to spell it right) like some "world champion" actually does (really , i can't believe valdesi is 5th dan and world champion)
Kanazawa's 10th dan was awarded by the All Japan Karate governing body. The same organization that acts as a ranking standard for all major styles of karate in Japan. Do a little research next time. And then try getting a clue.
Hirokazu Kanazawa is not rubbish. He was a student of Gichin Funakoshi. He one the All Japan karate championships with a broken hand I don't think rubbish person would win a title like that if they were rubbish. Kanazawa rocks
