@PlushChronicles you can join all of them, and The Dark Brotherhood is basically a Faction/Guild for Assassins, just kill any random innocent person, or maybe someone in the arena, and then go to sleep, someone named Lucien Lachance should come and talk to you, follow his instructions, and so on.

There's an easy way to do this, without any spells or Armorer leveling involved on any version of the game.

1. Go to Rindir's Staves and buy a 0 weight Mage Hood.

2. Meet up with the Grey Fox after Shadowfoot+ rank

3. Reverse pickpocket the hood onto him.

4. Punch him (doing this, I somehow managed to avoid the blood price). This will make him get up and switch to the Mage Hood.

5. Quickly yield to him.

6. Pickpocket the Gray Hood of Nocturnal.

i stole the gray cowl in the same way! after i did the quest boots of springheel jak, the messenger the gray fox was suposed to send to me, never got to me, even though I fenced over 7000 gold. so i stole the cowl. it served me well, including in the dark brotherhood

@Rancor856 its useful because when you wear it and commit a crime (stealing, murder etc) the minute u take it off your character will not accumulate the bounty from crimes you do while wearing the mask. that means you can do whatever you want without penalty even if u take it off in front of guards

Pretty much, the main point is if you cast Bound Armor of any kind, such as Helmet in this case, then you repair the item past 100%, then you can drop it and pick it up and it becomes permanent, but weightless. The fact it's weightless is why you can reverse-pickpocket it back onto the Gray Fox (or anyone else for that matter). And because it has higher armor value than the Cowl, then therefore, he wears it when he gets attacked.
