  • Ah the anthem of the ADHD generation!

  • wow isnt Chrissy like Amy Winehouse in this video?

  • @neworderfanatic yes, she is kinda Amy Winehouse-ish

  • @neworderfanatic ... Chrissy was around first by about 30 years LOL! Chrissy definitly had her own style!

  • The guy @ 1:30 is that George Harrison?

  • Sexy song without having to resort to trashy videos or lyrics.

  • I can't put a finger on it but there's something special about the guys at 1:19 :)

  • Nice....

  • she has a very powerful voice

  • I love all the bands songs thanks pam

  • 48 people are not special.

  • @Bry254 Well, can you share any details, or will you leave us in suspense??? I'm a huge Honeyman Scott fan myself.

  • im special and i pwn everyone =)

  • It's a damned shame that half the people in this video are dead and buried. :( I love their music...

  • this isn't my favorite Pretenders' song by a longshot, but I love love love this video. Chrissie looks better in a beehive than the Ronettes, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot and the Lennon Sisters combined.

  • I'm Special !!! Peace Out

  • never saw the video before, but sure remember the girls in the strip clubs back then dancin to it, good mammaries...

  • LOVE IT....2 MY LOVER

  • Good Music.

    Im 12.

  • Everyone......Watch " Creep " Chrissy sings a sequel to " I'm special.....you will LOL ! So fuc- ing special......it's worth looking up !

  • this song deserved to be released as a radio single in 1979/1980, unlike some of the other tunes on the Pretenders' self titled album. Most of the other songs on that album that weren't released on the radio (especially "Tattooed Love Boys") are ahead of their time!!!

  • I heard this song at like 4 in the morning. It was on a station that plays mostly rock and roll music from the 50's and 60's. Why they played this song I'll never know.

  • DRIVING BEAT/TOUGH WOMAN.

  • now this is good music crap pittbul these are singers

  • Chrissie Hynde can serve me coffee anytime; She's so seductive in this video. Too bad it didn't work out with Simple Minds frontman Kerr. Oh well...

  • this music video has a sad ending :(

  • 46 people that watched this video SUCK.

  • should be an anthem for every girl

  • great song and video...showing it to my millennium generation kids, telling them how this video was every 20m it seems back in the day when MTV played videos...great times!

  • Chrissie Hynde is so sexy in this video.

  • 1:30 guy looks like Kramer a bit.

  • I must've heard this song about 30-40 times and never knew who it was until now. Giving the self-titled album a listen, it's awesome.

  • Great song

  • This one is for you Victoria, RIP............

  • What a killer guitar hook.

  • i love their face when they say SPECIAL lol

  • GREAT classic and reminds of when MTV first started airing!

  • dirty white boy

  • This is an awesome song! The best of the best! ;) I actually first heard this on the radio...

Also, can anyone tell me the model of car shown in this? Sure looks good!

  • @UltraMarioGalaxy

    58 Caddy

  • This is one of my all time favs,I still have a special place in my heart for waitress' to this day because of this song, just so lovely.

  • you are special, so special Chrissie, I' like to give you some of my attention.... but that was so long ago. the music lives in me for all time, and you as well i know... as long as we remember it can never die...thank you....remember when we were young? never thought it would be us........

  • Crazy to think Amy Winehouse may have borrowed this hairdo and makeup style from Chrissie...striking...almost makes me wish there was an Amy version of this song...just to compare...

  • @longwhip

I also wish Amy I loved so much had had time to do a version of this song, great idea longwhip (strange name though...!)

  • @TheFroglette The name is from Corrosion of Conformity's song LongWhip/Big America from the Wiseblood CD. I was listening to that song trying to find a cool aol name and everything i found was taken already and the song was playing and i typed it in and ....the rest is history....although many people think "kink" and go in the wrong direction...just goes to show you where peoples minds are....strange name...maybe...it is mine!hahahaha

  • @longwhip Well... I must admit that at first I was one of the "many people", then I laughed and thought it was just cheeky or had something to do with cowboy nostalgia.. eventually I played it diplomatic. I will check out the CD you mention since I don't know it.

Also had the same problem with my name so I chose the nickname I was given when I lived in London.

  • Man I love this song and the video is sad pretty much...great music video for the MTV starter videos

  • Great oldie..

  • "Gonna make you, make you, make you notice..." I've been trying to get someone to notice me. They have, but I think I need to be more obvious. This isn't highschool anymore.

  • Happy Birthday James Honeyman-Scott (November 4) RIP

  • Sunday night I watched the TV show Pan Am. When I saw Christina Ricci in her waitress outfit in that 1950s Tacoma, WA diner, I thought of this song for some reason...probably because it's set in a similar type of diner? Anyway, i dig the song :)

  • Chrissie Hynde at her sexy best...luv to be d under 40 back stage...even now!

  • GREAT VID! RIP James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon :(

  • i don't get why people click on a video JUST to not like it?

    they're clearly thick. :]

    i love this! & it's a thumbs up from a 16 year old. :] xxx

  • @GETKNOWNx -- And there's the equally stupid morons who make irrelavent derogatory comments about a teenybopper pop singer whose name rhymes with Dustin Lieber. Those pseudo-hip morons need to grow up ans STFU!

  • @GETKNOWNx they were just being sarcastic.

  • @GETKNOWNx Indeed What are they idiots. This is brilliant. Not the best thing they ever did but first class.

  • @GETKNOWNx So you deserve better recognition just because you mentioned that you're 16? Let's just say I am a fetus and I love this song. Woo.

  • @divinegod102

    Pffftt.. that's not the point.

if you read my comment properly you'll see that i'm actually sticking up for the video & the song & going against the people that disliked it. sorry if it bothers you. but 37 likes? obviously people think i deserve regognition because they gave me my thumbs up, so crawl back under the rock you came out of.

  • @GETKNOWNx Congratulations, you want a cookie or something? Maybe a medal to boost your humongous ego? Good golly, you're phenomenally...stupid for a teenager you still are.

  • @divinegod102

i don't have an ego, nor do i need it boosting but you wrote your first comment purposely to make me look stupid, anyone can see that. & if you think i'm the stupid one, why did you comment back? have a nice day! :)

  • @GETKNOWNx Good bye youngster, hope life gives you a cookie and a medal someday,

  • @divinegod102

    oh & for the record. i'm 17 now. :)

  • I want her hair.

  • Great band from my hometown of Akron Ohio

  • im special so special i gotta have some of your attition give it to me

  • Chrissie was certainly special in every conceivable way-- in every sense of the word!!! Peace to All, BobbyK :+)

  • I always hated when they point at the word special on the menu as they mime it. Oh well, you can't have everything in this world.

  • I'm special!

  • Hey that is me in the video, or that is how I feel.Always loved the song

  • SPECIAL

  • Check my 2000 miles video and my channel, please.

  • One of the great ladies of rock. Great singer, song writer, and trend setter. Sure Hall of Fame.

  • this was one of the first videos, period. so, those who don't think its sophisticated or slick enough, neither was betamax or pong. i think this is a great video, and a song that has stood the test of time. remember it as a kid who was already a big pretenders fan. i put the pretenders first album right up there with nevermind and superunknown as one of the greatest all time rock albums. give it a listen if you don't know it.

  • @poppfa Some people think they are going to stay in their twenties forever. LOL

  • nice

  • Chrissie Hynde is so coy and cool.

  • I don't understand the video

  • There aren't many singers that I can say influenced my singing style. Chrissy was one of them. And she was the only female on that short list.

  • Where is the place in London where the video was filmed?????? :)

  • The best singer in the best band of its time.

  • I first heard this song in the catherine tate show. :)

  • Worst song that plays on Safeways shitty work radio. Not special. Not special at all.

  • I can't see the dislike bar! :S

  • nice song bad video

  • Love this song...very nice !!!! Thumbd up.

  • haha... special **special** they echo. i don't know why i think that's so funny. thumbs up if you agree.

  • @troyvanbarter My brother and I always sing this part at the most random times haha

  • Comment removed

  • @LongLiveThe1990s cool.

  • love the song and vid. QUESTION? Why did they take off, is it because Chrissy hit on that guy?

  • Not as edgy as "The Adultress", but a fantastic period piece nonetheless.

I like their music because it defies categorization, and as someone below mentioned, it defies fitting neatly into any particular "decade". If I was unaware that it was recorded in 1979, I would have no idea of its release date.

    Excellent job!

  • Early thirties, dirty girl I was................

  • 1979 damn where has time went?.....

  • I have loved Chrissie since I was a kid in grade school. It hasn't changed.

  • Happy Birthday Chrissie

  • 1:18

  • This is the very first music video I remember seeing. We did not have cable, so no MTV. There was a late night video show and I remember them showing this. Thanks Pretenders.

  • This was one of the music videos played in the first hour of MTV's existence.

(That's not a joke about how old-looking it is, it really was.)

  • Miss you honeyman-scott!! You were the sound of the Pretenders.

  • "I'm special,so special....I gotta have some of your attention....give it to me"----pretty obvious the meaning of that----explains every woman on this planet of ours.

  • My nephew said to me: Gee auntie, I just don't get this song...Gotta admit, the lyrics are a bit obscure to say the least. But many women truly understand this song anyway. I love Chrissie, her voice, her bad-ass attitude. Truly, one of the best, if not THE best woman rocker I ever heard.

  • @morna45

    I will use my imagination

  • Christine Hines has a classy, sexy sound and style...

I'll love her unique vocal style. She "ROCKS!!!"

  • I like Chrissie

  • I've always been a fan of Crissy Hyndes. She's such a gifted song writer and has a very unique, recognizable voice. And the proof of her talents is she's still actively performing more than 30 years after the release of The Pretender's first single. She rocks!

  • If a sheep could sing, this is what it would sound like.

  • @SysadminsWithGuns If a sheep could comment, that is what it would look like

  • "gonna use my arms, gonna use my begs"

  • total classic. if you don't like this your head is not screwed on straight.

  • Nah then owd pal - brass in't pocket an me best whistle - am bahn dahn tahn fer sum a that theer rock n roll tha nahs. Ah'll sithee.

  • This is one of the best songs of all time and maybe the video is a little bit cheesy. This was one of the first videos I ever saw on MTV and I think its a classic. Its a part of history.

  • song is decent but the video is bland and boring. not to mention it one of a few music video back in the day that hasn't age well.

  • don't really know anything about this woman or her life, just remember my mom and aunt listening to this. so it stuck with me, good song.

  • I love this song! And I love Chrissie Hynde's hair in the video. :D

  • what movies is this out of !! Any one know???

  • Private Part - The Howard Stern movie about his life.

  • Private Parts - The Howard Stern movie about his life.

  • @weequahicdude30 -- I remember a cartoon with Beavis and Butthead at an Army recruiter's office. They signed the enlistment papers Private Parts and Major Woody ... D'Oh!☺

  • Chrissie Hynde ROCKS........The Pretenders are the BEST!!!!

  • SPECIAL! 1:18

  • Why dopeople get annoyed whether someone likes a video or not? They may actually like the song but think that the sound quality on the video is bad, or below average, like this video. great song though. :-)

  • 42 people have no brass in their pocket nor are they special

  • I totally picked up a dude with this song

  • How could anyone dislike this song?

  • Comment removed

  • @CMloveify Fuck off if you want followers on twitter be famous and stop asking for followers its Godfuckingdamn fucked up

  • CHRISSIE ROCKS!!!!!

  • "gonna use my sidestep"

  • I (sexually?) abused the replay button.

  • The 80's were the best...videos and all...great job

  • Number 7, for a reason, do I need to say more..

  • notice the Lucky Strike advertisement in the video? That would be a crime to have in a video today

  • Gotta love those specials on the menus.

  • thanks mirjannas...... they just dont understand!!!! hateful people... thats all ..... i love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and when i heard it i was 12!!!!!! and when i hear it now at present age........the same feeling!!! so FUCK the dislikes they dont matter anyway!!

  • thumbs up if you didn't know the name of this song so you just typed " gonna use my arms gonna use my legs"

  • @GamerGirlPs3 lol who else would have done that but YOU!

  • @GamerGirlPs3 thats the only part i ever could understand lol

  • love this song!!

  • wow, I just moved to live in US, and heard this song. I thought this song was maybe released in between 2007-10. I never thought it would be this old. If you didn't see the video and just listen to the song first, I think you would think like me.

  • @khonnchettra Out of curiosity which state did you move too???

  • @khonnchettra I agree! Especially since in the last 8\7yrs or so, there has been a revival here of this kind of rock. If I hadn't heard it before, I'd prolly think the same thing. :)

  • Sexksi beyatch!!

  • I always thought that Chrissy Hynde had the sexiest vocals...WOW!

  • I freakin love this song soooo much! :D 10 out of 10!!!

  • These are the some of the people who started the new wave they were great Live...

  • why is katy perry in the featured video?

  • I don't see why people care about the dislikes! I mean, the song is here, and you guys like it, right? So what's the problem!!!

  • Thumbs up if the Blackberry Playbook brought you here.!

  • i wonder how she knew to make a video in 1979, hmmmm, curious

  • @iccolours Videos were being made before that. Look at The Monkees in the 1960's

  • Always loved this song and this video!! Go baby go!

  • I was just a kid when I saw this on Music TeleVision in the early 80's. It's still badass.

  • @eclipsespilce AHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAH MTV IN 80'S NOTHIN WAS BETTER THAN THAT!!!! THATS WHEN MYV ROCKED.. AND PLAYED ALL THE GREAT MUSIC, LIKE VAN HALEN, WHITESNAKE, WHITE LION, GUNS AND ROSES, TESLA, METALLICA, DOKKEN, PAT BENATAR, QUARTERFLASH, FLEETWOOD MAC... MAN I COULD GO ON AND ON AND ON AND ON!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS SONG STILL ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT MUSIC TO BE BLASTING IN YOUR RIDE!!!!

  • GIA brought me here<3 :D

  • reminds of a girlfriend I had spring/summer of 1981 who would lip-sync and dance to this song just for me, and still looks fine to this day....Damm those were the days!

  • My Anthem ♥

  • i saw the pretenders in concert in tulsa oklahoma they kicked ass

  • This song rules when I rolled not Houston in 80. The Pretenders where the top of the most that summer. Is you can't SEE the artistic work presented Muck off to the Barney station. I love you........

  • She RULES big time!

  • Just heard this version playing in the background of a June 2011 television ad.....Guess when Chrissie sang " I'm special " all those years ago..she was right.

  • Chrissie Hynde and Stevie Nicks are my favorite women of rock n roll.

    Hands down

If they ever made a song together it would be OVER!!!

  • 1.2 million views, that says something, doesn't it? This is a perfect pop song.

  • Negitive noonies. Go Away. We click this link cause we Love it. Goodbye

  • This is a Amazing Song.

  • Very strange, knowing the song at 1979 being then a student (:-)) and this is the first time I see the clip! I can imagine in 1979 this was a little persiflage on album cover *Breakfast in America* from Supertramp ;-) Very fine British Humour with a *hot cup-of-coffee/tea* Chryssie Hynde, although Supertramp were themselves then 80% English - 20% American ;-)) Great times back then... Thanks for sharing the great Tube!!!

  • Chrissy, we'd notice you no matter what you used.

  • GIA BROUGHT ME HERE.

  • If Blackberry brought you here..you are really young. This song debuted in 1979. I've only heard Chrissie Hynde being self deprecating about 2 Pretenders songs and those were "Brass in Pocket" and "I'll Stand By You"....you would never hear her dismiss "Private Life", "Talk of the Town, " Kid" or "Never Do That"..cause they are Fookin' genius. As are all of her songs!

  • thumbs up if u heard this on the blackberry playbook ad..... thts whyur here.

  • The Pretenders hit #14 in Billboard, 5-31-80. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • VERY GOOD SONG, awesome how blackberry brought it back from the archives!!!!

  • love this song!
