  • ...and the wonderful subtlety of the film is the three fold ambiguity (which is never resolved) 1 Do the ghosts exist? 2 Is the Governess mad? 3 Are the children independently evil? The film exquisitely presents these three possibilities without forcing an interpretation, which is the whole point of the "amusette" as James so understatingly put it.

  • Bravo Christopher Frayling, someone who understands Henry James, the process of making a great film and the detail of intelligent thought required to make a work of art. I think this film transcends the original and also the opera, although the music for that is quite sublime.

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful film on The Innocents. I have been obsessed by it since I first saw it as a teenager in the late 70's and have never seen anything on the making of the film before this.
