Very good! Thank you for introducing me to this piece. That is a very nice instrument there. It has a very comfortable console. I had quite a bit of fun with it at the 08' POE.
Lovely organ, rich and full. This is one of my favorite pieces! I have it on record being played on the Wanamaker organ. I like your version very much too! Thanks!
Well I mention the oboe in the beginning because thats the only thing out of the ordinary really that it asks for. Everything else I did on my own, additions of mixtures and reeds and the 32' Bombarde at the end. The recording sounds a little wierd, it's all pretty basic, building from soft to loud.
Hm... my 1911 Durand edition says at the beginning
Récit Fonds 4, 8, 16, anches préparées
Posiitif Fonds 8
Grand-Orgue Fonds 4, 8 16
Pédale Octave 8 Soubasse 16 Flûte 8.
Tirasse récit. Manual couplers. Box closed.
Nothing to do with a reed stop at the start!
The second page where the positif enters, you should add Doublette 2 and Mixtures to the Swell and at the end of the next line 4 and 2 to the positive...reeds should wait for progressive addition on the third page.
My edition obviously called for the reed at the beginning specifically. I'm in the middle of a move right now, but as soon as I can get to it i'll double check it. Thank's for your suggestions. I'll look forward to you posting a video with the registrations done better than this one.
The Sonata Eroica is a wonderfully powerful work which really puts your technique to work. I play nearly the complete works of Jongen and find all of his music to be wonderful. Check out his simple, yet pretty "Chant de May" or the Offertoire sur l'Alma Redemptoris Mater.
Thank you! I am an organ student at Baylor. This organ is a IV/92 rank Petty-Madden, installed in 1992. The concert hall seats 1000-the acoustics are rather bad. Hollow walls will do that.
This is one of my favourite works to play in a recital. I had the pleasure of being in attendance when Joyce Jones played the Dedicatory recital on this organ. Nicely Done!
Very nice legato playing. I am wondering if you are an organ student at Baylor? And can you give us viewers a little more information on the organ and the room it is in? Thanks! Great Playing!

I love that organ. You missed a few notes, but if I hadn't played the piece myself I wouldn't have noticed.

Amazing playing I would like to know what stops you used on this piece?
awash2002 5 years ago
Nothing special. It obviously builds from start to finish. Music calls for foundations and an oboe at the beginning.
bradtaylor32 5 years ago
Ok what are the rest of the stops used in the rest of the piece?

John Scott Whiteley recorded Jongen's Organ works and i believe them to be the best recordings. I also like the Elegie (W.12).

Every time I hear this song it is always on a Petty Madden. Great playing, I love this song.

I forgot to add his Marche Religieuse which is quite an amazing work(imho)! I've gotten some good use out of that for weddings.

I love the way the sound builds up in this piece. Jongen is so underrated and neglected. Any chance of his Sonata Eroica op 94?
ZachariasHildebrandt 5 years ago
Never heard of that sonata of his, but i've just lately been getting into Jongen. I'll have to check it out.
