he now has arthritis in his knuckles. it won't stop his playing as it is on the first knuckle. only keith could get away with getting arthritis, and not have it affect his playing. it's probably been brought on with playing for nearly 60 years. when you think about it, playing a guitar makes you use your fingers in a way they aren't designed for.

Blues is a very easy music on the surface like he says, but then you soon realize the music is only a fraction of what it is. The voice and the personality are the major parts. For example Muddly Waters singing "Hello little schoolgirl" is ALWAYS going to sound a billion times better than whatever Eric Clapton could even come up with and it`s because he just doesn`t have the voice or the personality. He can probably play guitar a zillion times better, but all that is moot for the blues.

It amazes me as to how much arguing there is about the best tihs and that when it comes to guitarists and bands. Music is not a competition. You may prefer one thing over another but realize this. @minigiganten Keith's been relatively sober for the better part of 20 yrs, at least, especially with regard to heroin, coke and harder drugs; but since he's got that image/tag of being this poster-boy for drug abuse people just assume that he's drunk or high all the time. He's almost always articulate and clear during interviews but he tends to laugh and slur often so it's difficult to hear him.

Jeff Beck is a legend, his albums are regarded brilliant by fellow guitarist"s especially Blow by Blow & Wired. Beck has incredible emotion, thats why he is regarded the guitarists guitarist! Hey I'm not trying to say I'm an encyclopedia of knowledge on the history of what guitarists think of each other. I'm not really taking into acount a tried and tested knowledge of opinion polls and other "greats", all I'm saying is Keith got soul. I like Jeff Beck and the Mac is good too, but I would never compare them with Keith's songwriting. As guitarists, yes they are probably more talented, but definately not in terms of songwriting and style - which is what matters with the blues.
