I've really enjoyed seeing your quilt. I love the "freedom" of it. I've been quilting quite a long time; it is wonderful to see new converts to quilting. BTW, the circle/swirl quilting idea is a great one. I like the blue thread idea too.
watched all now, just boggled by your ambitious creativity and delicacy of execution. what a clever boy you are, arty! :) this is gallery quality. might the work process be more fun and flowing if you work alongside a quilting friend?
your vision for it is epic, i'm excited to see your plan develop. i'm not a quilter (yet?), so i have no meaningful practical feedback. but i'm an artist and i understand frustrated process. ;) just wanted to add in that i looove what you're working on. i feel like yellow-golden thread as raindrops might get lost in the shuffle? seems silver would be clashing, but perhaps an shimmery copper or something? or a more metallic type of gold? in a... cottony way? does that make any sense?
*gasp* it is wonderful to hear your voice again!!! i haven't been around much, so not sure if you've been regularly posting (i'll go check...). but i'm delighted to see this! can't believe that's a quilt, looks like an aerial view of a town... or a massive painting of such. you're a creative genius, no doubt. :) i'm a third into the video now, happily off to listen to the rest...
YES I THINK THAT'S A GOOD IDEA! : ) I love the circles idea, and I would put in some swirls, too, like a fern unfurling. I think a love/ hate relationship with your work is a nice reflection of reality, very playful.
I love your quilt and I understand your struggle - with design and with the tools. I quilt all my quilts with the sewing machine, so I can't help much with the tools part, but your circles design is brilliant and I do like how the sashiko thread circles look, but there's nothing wrong with combining some sashiko circles with circles done using smaller needle/thread, and perhaps interlocking some circles too? Perhaps some blue thread circles as water? I look forward to your updates. Marguerita
@CrazyShortcutQuilts Thanks Marguerita ,the interlocking circles is a great idea. And i think you are right in combining different quilting methods and threads. I think my problem was that i was thinking that i had to stick to one quilting method which infact i now realise i don't, which now excites me again. Blue is a definite possibility.Once again thanks for the input x x x
Hey Artylad, have you checked out lcvday youtube site for free motion quilting designs?...there are some there that look like swirling water, and that you could do freehand if you are not game to do it on your machine. I have thought that if you turn a 4-leg table on its side, and run a dowel between the upper legs, you could use that as a frame...good luck ps that sounds like a Cornwall accent..
