I want to thank you for this idea. I used this to remotely ignite most of my fireworks last new years eve and it worked flawlessly. Needless to say, this year ALL my fireworks will be ignited with this system.
Hm, that's a very good idea. You don't have to worry about the flimsy filament in christmas lights etc. Looks pretty sturdy. Are they reliable, how many tests have you done?
A re-usable igniter made of nichrome wire would not last long due to embrittlement and the high temperature and strong oxidising effect of the fuse. The resistors are less than a penny each with easy to connect leads already on them making them ideal as one-off igniters.
But don't let that put you off designing something better and posting a video.
Excellent Idea. I used to use nickelchromium (toaster wire) but was brittle and not easy to solder to. You have made my New years firework display a lot easier to do now! thanks. Just need to find my bag of old resistors!
I am also using your RGB controller to light up my christmas tree, keep up the good work!
If they ever bring back MacGyver, he'll definitely use this trick.

what if you ematch dip these
gocrazy1995 8 months ago
@gocrazy1995 I've never tried that. I've never really dabbled with making actual e-matches.

@bigclivedotcom this looks like they would work is there a way to attach squib wire to themwithout alligator clips
gocrazy1995 8 months ago
@gocrazy1995 You can solder wires easily to resistor leads. They are designed for soldering.

@bigclivedotcom im going to have to try this it looks simple and cheap

Much cheaper and easier than dealing with nichrome wire!

Nice vid ^^
I made a similar thing, using wire instead of a resistor (it acts as a resistor , making it heat up)
Feel free to check out an igniter without any steel wool on my profile :D

haha just as it ignited a ad popped up which said "fire risk assessment"

To date I've never had one fail to work.

you can just use copper wire! Way cheap :)

I wanted to try that in lab but they'll probably fail me.

Well , Obviously anything that Burn out will ignite any fuse .
A video about a Resistor that ignite a firework fuse reusable many time would be much better.
Interesting Video , but nothing much sorry .

but the resistor is hard to time well.

Interesting. So what do you use to apply the 12V across this resistor?
