Um, excuse me but Medusa wasn't an ugly girl. SHe was beautiful, and she flaunted it. Athena trunedf her into an ugly monster who couldn't be loved to teach her a lesson about inner beauty but Medusa just became more and more bitter so Athena left her to rot. Nobody should pity Medusa, she had a pretty face and an ugly heart, so Athena made her face as ugly as her heart. Rather poetic. This song is saying everyone ridicules her, but actually it's a reminder that beauty isnt just on the outside.
@Eminemfantasy26 That is really true. In the story then Medusa sutured Poseidon in Athena's temple. By this display, the goddess was disgusted and appalled. But my point is that Medusa wasn't ugly, she was a beauty with a unpure heart. That seems to be the lesson in Greek myths. Things like looks can be deseving and beauty is hidden inside...
@Eminemfantasy26 ah... i do not know that version... But the two versions i know of medusa are: That Medusa was the only mortal gordon killed for her head... The other was she was wanted by Poseidon and she tried to take refuge at Athena's temple and she implored the goddess to protect her but was abandoned... Athena was disgusted at her after she was raped so she turned Medusa to a snake woman...
@Eminemfantasy26 you forget to mention what a bitch athena is/was. The story just reinforces the greek idea that men of upper class can do as they please and everyone else should be greatful they exist. I figured that out before I was 12...34 years ago. Oh and fyi I wasn't reading the kiddie books. It was the hard core direct translations.
Heather Dale is amazing!!! The song is about Medusa, you know the lady with snakes instead of hair. She was a monster in Greek mythology. If men looked upon her they would turn to stone. But she was once a beautiful virgin that was raped by a man in Athena's temple. The virgin goddess was disgusted at her for betting raped in her temple so she turned her into a gorgon. Well that is just one version of the myth but that is what the amazing miss Dale is talking about.
@HeatherJDale Myslím, že se to dá tak brát :D Děkuju za odpověď, usnadním vám práci s překladem :D I think I could take it like understanding :D Thank you very much for your reply, goodbye :D
@ventus1414 Funny, the one after that looks like a pick of my mom from 30 years ago. She was wearing a cut off shirt and sitting on a fountain with long blonde braid. Love this song !
ah, medusa...the patron goddess of women wronged by life...after all she was cursed with her form by Athena after she "allowed" herself to be raped by Poisidon.
You really should credit the artist individually, and at the very least get their permission. They tend to be really touchy about people using their pictures without permission and credits.
About the song, this is what Heather Dale says about it (taken from her website)
"We have a very serious problem with self-image in Western culture: we're bombarded by advertisers who tell us that we're too fat, too bony, not pretty enough, too feminine, too masculine and somehow we buy into the myth that we're not beautiful the way we are."
I don't think it misses the point... Its about making your OWN perfection... speaking from experience if your not out there with a personality then your not beautiful... I became beautiful when I was able to look people in the eye, when I was able to feel sexy even if my mom didn't think I was...
MissNightMare999: This is a very good slideshow; however, you ought to make an effort to include a variety of different pictures that relate to specific parts of the song.
For example, the "pretty girl" parts are just fine as they are. However, when the song is talking about ugliness, there should be pictures of the standard ugly Medusa; the "create my own perfection" parts = various statue pics, and the "pretty men" parts should be pictures of bodybuilders.
Actually Medusa, of all the Gorgons was supposed to be so incredibly breathtakingly beautiful that she turned people to stone. The other Gorgons just tore people apart and were hideous beasts.
Where on earth did you get that interpretation? I've been through around two dozen different versions of the story, and I've never seen that one before 0.o
The story varies, one version speaks of her as originally being an amazingly beautiful preistess, but when taken against her will by Posiedon, she disfigured herself to spite him.
@Dyerdon Yeah, she was gorgeous until she tempted Poseidon. He then decided to take matter into his own hands and took advantage of her in the temple of Athena. Athena, having no pity then turned Medusa into a fiend that would make sure that no man would ever look at her again.
@Dyerdon That's incorrect. In actuality, Medusa was once a beautiful girl who was, depending on the myth, raped or had sex with Poseidon in Athena's temple. Athena, who always had a conflict with Poseidon, was angry that her temple was defiled and so she cursed Medusa and her sisters, turning them into horrid beasts. Medusa became so horribly disfigured that the mere sight of her by bare human eyes resulted in the looker turning to stone.
I know. I was just trying to make the video pretty even though it doesn't completely agree with the lyrics of the song. I was trying to get the point across that no matter what you look like. don't change yourself for some one else or just because some one told you to. XD
@demonjack maybe it's like what she feels like she is inside? or maybe it's what she used to be like, I mean before aphrodite made her into medusa. idk.
@whitemoonwolf13 No no it was Athena, Goddess of War. After Medusa was raped by Poseidon, who she had turned down many times, in Athena's temple. Athena was outraged at Medusa, blaming her for for the violation of her temple.
She cursed her turning her from a beautiful person into a monster. She was a person who suddenly found herself a victim of an awful crime and punished for it.
And then she had to live her life in exile been hunted until she was murdered. Really sad.
@HeatherJDale - Ok, here you've nearly made the claim to have written this song, but you're not the musician featured here. It's probably best if you leave such suggestions as vague implications since they're not true, hm? :)
@HeatherJDale Completely true! The world should stop focusing on looks alone. I mean its fine to be pretty, but don't be obsessed. I really don't care how I look, its whats on the INSIDE that matters, not the OUTSIDE.
i love how she sings about different myths and religions like joan of arc and sedna.

I'm splitting hairs here, but I doubt Medusa's mother ever saw her in full Gorgon form. Medusa and her sisters were cursed by Athena.
But hey. It's a pretty song and I get the parallels to Western society.
