i'm indonesian, originally from Kediri where the PT Gudang Garam Tbk belongs. some of my family work over there. maybe 1 of these woman is my aunty :p

as far as i know, they paid well enought, they get bonus every year ( idul fitri=>moslem hollyday). big enought to buy a motorcycle :p

Opinions for this type of work are relative to expectation and your own standard of living. I would much rather see this than see 4 year olds holding a baby at a busy traffic light walking in-between motorcyclists asking them for money - I live in Jakarta and I see that many times a day.

There is really an unlimited amount of arguments you can make for or against this type of work, but in my opinion (relative to other jobs in Indonesia) this is a decent job.

Working conditions look good: clean environment, air conditioners on the walls, room is well lit, music playing. Regarding how much Indonesians are paid in here, of course it is probably shit. Labor is very cheap here, but the cost of living is very low as well. According to PPP you can buy 3 times as much with the dollar, but that only takes into account the average for developed areas. In less developed areas of Indonesia someone can easily live on this income and even support a family.

I spent a lot of time in Indonesia and the smiles and happiness there are genuine.It's like that all over the country.If you harp on about how much someone is paid,you've disregarded the entire culture that binds them together.Americanism never made much of an inroad into Indonesia and they are all the better for it !!!!!!!

LOOK at their faces, many of the women have big smiles. Lots of talking, laughing even music can be heard throughout! These women are not breaking rocks in the hot sun. They seem to be having it just as easy as any factory worker in the USA.

Indonesia is a 3rd world toilet were work is extremely hard to come by- I'm sure these women are ecstatic to have work & a steady pay check with which they can feed, clothe & shelter their families ... 'exploitation' - GET REAL you IDIOT!
