@RYUNOMI13TADEH First i roughly shape them on a belt grinder, then i fine tune them with a smooth file, after that i get rid of any scratches with sand paper and i finish them on a buffing wheel to make them shiny.
bro, first i admire your skill.it is inspiring and gives me so many good ideas,so thank you.
second, that is awesome that you have a bolf tanto. i have learned so much from watching his videos.probably the most informative videos i've seen. and do i really need to comment on his skill?for anyone who doesn't know pavel bolf, look at balzerz channel. revan,do you know pavel personally?
you have alot of time and coin invested and it shows.your attention to detail is great. i applaud you.
Thanks, yeah i do know him, actually i was at his place yesterday,he moved recently, and he's now living some 15 miles away from me,so i get to see him pretty often now. Recently i got a katana from him (i uploaded a few photos in my last vid), and i have two more tanto I'm working on currently.
I really love your vids man, I'm very envious of your skill in swordsmanship and craftsmanship. Do you custom make horn koshirae for people? Because I love your work. By the way, what do you polish your blades with? I love the satin polish on many of your blades...
Thank you, yeah i make custum koshirae, which includes horn parts as well,fuchi/kashira,koiguchi,kojiri,kurikata,kaeritsuno,mekugi i usually make from horn.
As for togi (polish),i only use traditional Japanese stones, kongo, binsui, kaisei, chu nagura, koma nagura and uchigumori, then fingerstones, hazuya and jizuya and i usually finish with nugui.
Traditional polish isn't cheap though, and it takes a lot of time,so it's usually not done on production swords, but if a blade is good enough it can be done.
great job man i like your tantos alot but I really like what you did with that munetoshi anyway I could talk you into helping me with a custom job on my ume ? I like the leather wrap looks really nice wish i could make one I can't wrap worth a crap lol
@Revan9729 I am looking to make a new tsuka and wrap in black leather and maybe a new saya with good thick piece of the bull horn on the koguychi and for the shogeo loop sorry about the miss spellings lol half asleep still just let me know thanks Reven
Tsuka is no problem, but making a good saya can be pretty expensive, simple saya in black lacquer with horn parts costs around 700 usd at Fred Lohmans company.
Traditionally made saya are nothing like production saya, they are hand carved for every blade separately and they fit the blade perfectly so there is no rattling. After that koiguchi, kojiri and kurikata are made from buffalo horn. Finally the saya is lacquered, and that is the most difficult part, lacquering can take up to two weeks...
All this is very time consuming, and while i certainly wouldn't charge even a half of that price i can't do it for free either, and honestly for a sword that costs a few hundred bucks it's probably not worth the trouble, but if you like that sword so much it can be done.
Yaeh and i only have black and brown leather (the one i used in this vid),so if you want a different color you'll have to order from namikawa, price is 50usd for 4m, plus shipping,4m is enough for a regular sized tsuka.
Ok,no problem then,i have a few sets of fuchi/kashira and some menuki,i have only 2 or 3 pairs of higher quality menuki though,as for fuchi and kashira,i just got a new shipment of horn so i can make them from horn if you want,it would probably be cheaper, and it's still a traditional material,it's up to you.Yeah i forgot to mention if you want a new tsuka carved you'll have to send me the blade.
how do you polish the buffalo horns?? nice vids hope that you'll make a tutorial on polishing horns

@Revan9729 where do you live?
ShastaSwordsmen 1 year ago
Czech Republic, last time i had a sword shipped from US i postage was around 40 bucks.
Revan9729 1 year ago
But if the original tsuka is carved out properly, meaning nakago doesn't move around when you remove the mekugi,i can shape, mount and re wrap it.

@Revan9729 that would be my best bet I will have to wait tell next month am broke right now but will let you know thanks Revan
