  • スパイロ - Su-pa-i-ro - Spyro

The "Ro" looks funny, it's so soft that it looks like a circle.

    Amusing.

Also, I'm still thinking that the Legend Of series should have been about an other dragon. Then it would have been better. I enjoyed the games and all, but a linear story line (Plus the seriousness) ruins what we all loved in the original Spyro games. The games were quite fun to play through... But the seriousness did not really fit Spyro.

...Elijah Wood's voice was a perfect match, though.

  • 0:20

    Dinosaur or Dragon?

  • ¿2lpto?

  • where is year of dragon?

  • @OldClassicGamer Not in here, couldn't find it.

  • 0:16 all i think of is this: welcome to the super fun happy smile family wish show!

  • Still looking for the .iso of the Japanese version. I'm so obsessed with the game that I want another excuse to replay it.

  • In Japan, He is purple dinosaur!!!!! BARNEY! :D

  • *facepalm* oh why, japan?

  • 0:16,

I like that one more than the others.

  • No, I didn't like bcos it's japanese.

  • He is so cute!!!!!!!!

  • Spyro's so kawaii :D -gets shot-

  • Jap Spyro looks like Ripto XD

  • OMG boy am i lucky i do not live in japan!!!! i think i will kill my self now ......

    WTF! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!

  • They tried to make spyro all badass and epic with the new games....I HATE the new spyro games, they are crap, and why is spyro all soft and pathetic in them???!! I love oldschool spyro.

  • heh, in spyro orange he looks more like 'spyro the dinosaur' than 'spyro the dragon'

  • 0:18's (season of ice i think) picture was GRIZZEAT.

  • 0:21 Wtf....

  • His name look like: 2liTo

Its wired :S And I hate japanese Spyro. And the new spyro games to!(damn of the dragon)I love the first thriology!!!!Dont you??

  • @mygganlover Yeah, the first 3 were really good, I didn't like the later ones.

  • @SpyroSan The GBA games were good as well in my opinion. The others though..

  • @mygganlover haha ya u say it! lolz..freaky right XD .. i have the oldest ds spuro one.. its ok, dosnt follow the original story but ok...i still agree with u though :)

  • i mean 0:17

  • like one at 0:16

  • Japanese Spyro's name is how English Ripto got his name. Japanese Spyro Logo looked alot like RIpTo, and Insomniac figured that sounded like a good name for a worthy opponent, and that is why the tiny orange riptoc in a cape from Spyro 2:Ripto's Rage is called "Ripto"

  • Lol at 0:23 theres a picture of a pissed off crash

  • This is where they got the name for Ripto.

  • Rumors go around that Ripto's name from Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage came from the Kanji for Spyro. Or somethin' like that. Heh heh. xD

  • lol at 3. picture Spyro looks like a girl lol

  • no he looks like crocodile

    (stupid)

  • The fact that his Japanese name looks like "Ripto" must be just a coincidence, right?......... Although the odds of a character fighting a villain with the same name as what the Japanese name of the hero are very small indeed..

  • Spyro en japonais c'est horrible ! Les japonais sont vraiment con !

  • 2iPTO

why are they making spyro look so different from the actual game?

  • did you like it?-nnoooo

  • Did you rike it?

  • Cuttee:DDD

  • @BrashCandicoot Haha, true. I like your account name btw xD

  • @SpyroSan AND he is flaming at Crash Bandicoot!

  • The Japanese draw him way better than we can XD

  • You know I like the Japanese arwork much more. looks alot smoother, he actually looks like he has a snout whereas his american version it just looks like he has a big nose.

  • why is spyro not so magical and cute anymore?

Now hes friggen voilent and emo :(

  • @PoisoningOrchid Hehe, true..

    Maybe he hit dragon-puberty?

  • @SpyroSan Opisite, Legend of Spyro is all soppy and goody goody and classic Spyro is all badass. eurgh strange way to grow up

  • @SpyroSan but legend of spyro was his birth lol

  • How come his name looks like its ripto?

  • It´s actually ''Su-pa-i-ro'' it's in Katakana

    It's spelled スパイロ

  • Oh! ok thanks.

  • Yupp

  • then man... japan sure is makin it look wierd!

  • Yea xD

  • that can never be un-seen...

  • Comment removed

  • is it me or does he look like a dino

  • look like Japanese Crash Bandicoot

  • LOL!

  • my reaction to japanese season of ice ''oh dear lord...''

  • I love the Season of Flame one =D And the thieves at 0:37 are adorable XD they don't have their usual pedophile grin!

  • Pedophile grin xD

    That's brilliant xD

  • Hehe!

But seriously... The thief that is on that -really- narrow ledge on that high platform at Wizard's Peak just sits there... And I though, hm, wonder what they look like...

    I didn't sleep that night o_o

  • Aww, poor you =P

    Creepy dudes.

  • 0:22 spyro is like donkey XD

  • that's what I first thought.

  • when i first heard about japenese spyro i was like....WTF? The art looks good, except for that one where Spyro and Crash are together, spyro looked more like....god knows what and ironically enough, yes the way Spyro's name is written, is perhaps the way how our folks got the idea of the name Ripto. Who knew that an evil originated from good.

  • It is how they got the idea.

  • I always saw arts but never a gameplay XD

  • ripto beats ripto?

  • apparently, ripto beats Spyro in japan... but about the first three times the battle is fought, the same holds true in america...(for me anyway!)

  • 2IPTO lol looks likr ripto

  • I like japanse crash :D

  • in this version his name is Ripto O.o

  • I hate it when Japs and weeaboos draw hair (or something that resembles hair) on dragons and animals. Scaleds don't have any body hair and furry animals already have the god damn fur, why do they have to draw hair? looks effin' stupid.

  • there is an unwritten rule for anime where the amount of hair is in direct correlation with the character's power. Too bad they messed up his voice in the first game.

  • "Did you like it?" HA! Kojima...

  • 0:23-spyro look's scary and werid

  • Yeah, wtf??

  • lol

  • i liked but american and european are still better i think...

  • Thank you ^^

I'm glad you liked the video.

  • O_O Go konami?.... usa ib better...

  • Awesome Dunsparce tail on 0:17!

  • It's actually a rattle.

  • It's weird how Spyro on the GBA was published by Konami. I didn't even know that until I saw the box art...and I love Konami.

  • Konami ftw! xD

  • I love how his name spells 'Ripto' in japanese XD

  • Scary 0_o

  • yea xD

    I got it from emule...

  • i dont like how the japanese made spyro look like a baby! and its says ripto, his name is spyro, not ripto, and sparx is green, thats not good when he's green!

  • Um... Ripto is how it is spelt in japanese.

  • it's not ripto, it still says spyro but in katakana. a set of characters that r used to spell out foreign words. it's basically "su-pa-i-ro" it looks like ripto because the characters r stylized here: スパイロ see?

  • that i can understand, but i hate it when the japanese change how our amrican video game characters, and make then look domb! its an insault i say! EX: sly cooper characters! Spyro!!!

  • that's how they do it here too! when japanese games arrive, they change the game and re-write the damn dialog completely so it'll suit the "america audiences" it just makes it look and sound childish and stupid. resident evil? i don't think so! it's biohazard! so there we're even!

  • well at least i have the origanal and dont have to worry about having japanese versions!

  • yeah, i have it too. i'm just saying that blaming the japanese or americans for this is childish. bottom line is that once a game is produced, it's sold to many countries and of course is no longer theirs, so they can manipulate it in any way they want. credit still is given to the distributors but now it's part of the company that bought them. that's how art and the law works

  • They change it according to whatever suits the audience - take a listen to the Spyro 2 intro in Japanese and all the characters have trademark high-pitched anime voices. When it comes to anime, they change bits in the story, like people dying will become people going into an "eternal sleep" or something for the English version. Whatever an audience will like/won't cause outrage is used, I guess

  • Lovely! <3 :)

  • Spyro is zo shattig in het japans

  • Daarom heb ik deze video ook gemaakt ^^

  • it was pretty good.

  • Thanks.

  • Why do the Japanese have to anime-fy everything?

  • cuz that's how they trade mark stuff... lol just kidding i don't know

  • Random subject, but Moneybags threatened to turn me into Sonic the Hedgehog...

  • on the picture at 0:24 spyro looks a bit like a purple horse (-_-')...

  • If you actually translate it, it's spelt as:

    su-pa-i-ro

It's an English borrowed word, so it's written in Katakana, therefore it is similar translated.. if ya know what I'm getting at X_x. But meh, it could be pronounced as Ripto in Japan..

  • I'm not talking translation here. I mean look at it. The katakana looks like the English letters for R, I, P, T and O

  • I wonder what Ripto's called in the Japanese games then...

  • lol! who knows?

  • I always heard they called Ripto Ripto because the characters they used to spell spyro in Japanese look like R-I-P-T-O

  • This is what Spyro looks like in Japan?!?!?! Wow, he's not too much different...but not all the same.....

  • I read that Naughty Dog wanted to give different cover arts so that when you check with your Japan buddy, that's what he gets while you get the original cover. For me in Singapore, its original covers.

  • That's interesting.

  • But for a more logical reason, I think this was due to Sony's distribution of the game. They wanted a more.... cute and appealing cover. Something like Hello Kitty.

  • To me, I think that both covers are reasonable. As long as Spyro isn't too "cute" or too "vicious," he still seems to be Spyro after all.

  • But its crap if the cover version of Spyro is super-deformed(to look cute). The japanese will then say "What the hell? I thought I was playing a super-deformed dragon? Who's idea was this?" in Japanese of course.

  • I so agree with you.

  • Thank you ^^

    I appreciate it.

  • lol at 00:22 he flaming crash haha!

  • 00:21

No wonder Crash is confused. They really fucked up BAD on Spyro.

  • cool!

  • Cute cute CUTE!!!!!

  • SQUEE! The 2nd one is so cute! They're all so chibi! I especially liked the way they drew Eloura.

  • Ripto lol ?

Whatever, anyway, the JAP versions have really cute covers <3

  • Yes, the do ^^

  • may i humbly ask that when u abbreviate "japanese" to use JPN or JP instead of JAP. it's kinda offensive. thank you.

  • I didn't abbreviate anything... What are you talking about?

  • no not u sorry, i think i replyed to the wrong person. i meant the EvilEtna person. sorry, my mistake

  • Oh, no problem ^^

  • WTF!!

  • LOL ALL WORDS SAID RIPTO

  • dang the one at 0:19 is hecka sweet!

  • 0:06 IJAP I THE WORD SAID RIPTO

  • That's how you spell Spyro in Japanese.

  • lol they all said ripto thats why they made ripto the name of the enemy in spyro 2. its his father...lol jk that would be gay.

  • whoei!

  • xD lol

  • wow looks creepy but i bet its fun since its difrent

  • hes cute!

  • That is actually how they got Ripto's name because the Japanese way to spell Spyro looks like Ripto!

I think however the English/Australian version of Spyro is better...

  • i thought that too.

  • YOU MEANT PAL

  • (angel) Not PAL....I think. I had one only in English.

  • spyro look so cool i like the oud spyro games the most then the new one the new one is very good but it is not like spyro 2 and 3

  • w8 a sec, in the japanese version he looks blue, he's supposed 2 be purple, wth?

  • Yes, I really don't know...

  • lolz so dam ugly

  • geez i know but hey! you CAN'T change the past... or can you?...

    (TNTL)

  • you know where the name Ripto came from?

If you look at the Japanese "Spyro" text,

it looks like "Ripto" in our letters/symbols

  • Gah...it just looks like that...It really says "Su-pa-i-ro", which would be the Japanese romanization for it....-_-

  • yeh, but it's because it looks like ripto, that english people thought of calling the bad guy "ripto"

  • i know

  • W.....T........F.....!?

  • What?

  • I'm used to the Badass additude in the first game, and then i see the cute-side of this, Awkwaard

  • AGH! spyro so cute in the old ver. just as cute in the current ver.

  • Elora looks cute on the Spyro 2 cover. :-P

  • Think*

  • At 00:22 you see Crash Bandicoot, is that the game in which they join forces or something?

  • I thing so...

  • No...

  • So, you never found the Japanese cover for Year of the Dragon?

  • u see, his name in japanese is similar to

ripto, thats why the second game, gateway to glimmer, is called riptos rage

  • Spyro looks older every picture.

  • Spyro's japanese name is Ripto.

    Just look at the name.

  • No... sorry but you are wrong :S

The japanese name of Syro is the same in English, but when you see in katakana (the alphabetic used for non-japanese words) you can see RIPTO 'coz SEEMS like but it's not RIPTO. What you see is スパイロ (SU-PA-I-RO = same sound of SPYRO). The font used for スパイロ looks like RIPTO, but it's not RIPTO.

    You got it?

  • Yes, I found out some weeks ag
