The "Ro" looks funny, it's so soft that it looks like a circle.
Amusing.
Also, I'm still thinking that the Legend Of series should have been about an other dragon. Then it would have been better. I enjoyed the games and all, but a linear story line (Plus the seriousness) ruins what we all loved in the original Spyro games. The games were quite fun to play through... But the seriousness did not really fit Spyro.
...Elijah Wood's voice was a perfect match, though.
They tried to make spyro all badass and epic with the new games....I HATE the new spyro games, they are crap, and why is spyro all soft and pathetic in them???!! I love oldschool spyro.
@mygganlover haha ya u say it! lolz..freaky right XD .. i have the oldest ds spuro one.. its ok, dosnt follow the original story but ok...i still agree with u though :)
Japanese Spyro's name is how English Ripto got his name. Japanese Spyro Logo looked alot like RIpTo, and Insomniac figured that sounded like a good name for a worthy opponent, and that is why the tiny orange riptoc in a cape from Spyro 2:Ripto's Rage is called "Ripto"
The fact that his Japanese name looks like "Ripto" must be just a coincidence, right?......... Although the odds of a character fighting a villain with the same name as what the Japanese name of the hero are very small indeed..
You know I like the Japanese arwork much more. looks alot smoother, he actually looks like he has a snout whereas his american version it just looks like he has a big nose.
But seriously... The thief that is on that -really- narrow ledge on that high platform at Wizard's Peak just sits there... And I though, hm, wonder what they look like...
when i first heard about japenese spyro i was like....WTF? The art looks good, except for that one where Spyro and Crash are together, spyro looked more like....god knows what and ironically enough, yes the way Spyro's name is written, is perhaps the way how our folks got the idea of the name Ripto. Who knew that an evil originated from good.
I hate it when Japs and weeaboos draw hair (or something that resembles hair) on dragons and animals. Scaleds don't have any body hair and furry animals already have the god damn fur, why do they have to draw hair? looks effin' stupid.
there is an unwritten rule for anime where the amount of hair is in direct correlation with the character's power. Too bad they messed up his voice in the first game.
i dont like how the japanese made spyro look like a baby! and its says ripto, his name is spyro, not ripto, and sparx is green, thats not good when he's green!
it's not ripto, it still says spyro but in katakana. a set of characters that r used to spell out foreign words. it's basically "su-pa-i-ro" it looks like ripto because the characters r stylized here: スパイロ see?
that i can understand, but i hate it when the japanese change how our amrican video game characters, and make then look domb! its an insault i say! EX: sly cooper characters! Spyro!!!
that's how they do it here too! when japanese games arrive, they change the game and re-write the damn dialog completely so it'll suit the "america audiences" it just makes it look and sound childish and stupid. resident evil? i don't think so! it's biohazard! so there we're even!
yeah, i have it too. i'm just saying that blaming the japanese or americans for this is childish. bottom line is that once a game is produced, it's sold to many countries and of course is no longer theirs, so they can manipulate it in any way they want. credit still is given to the distributors but now it's part of the company that bought them. that's how art and the law works
They change it according to whatever suits the audience - take a listen to the Spyro 2 intro in Japanese and all the characters have trademark high-pitched anime voices. When it comes to anime, they change bits in the story, like people dying will become people going into an "eternal sleep" or something for the English version. Whatever an audience will like/won't cause outrage is used, I guess
It's an English borrowed word, so it's written in Katakana, therefore it is similar translated.. if ya know what I'm getting at X_x. But meh, it could be pronounced as Ripto in Japan..
I read that Naughty Dog wanted to give different cover arts so that when you check with your Japan buddy, that's what he gets while you get the original cover. For me in Singapore, its original covers.
But for a more logical reason, I think this was due to Sony's distribution of the game. They wanted a more.... cute and appealing cover. Something like Hello Kitty.

But for a more logical reason, I think this was due to Sony's distribution of the game. They wanted a more.... cute and appealing cover. Something like Hello Kitty.

To me, I think that both covers are reasonable. As long as Spyro isn't too "cute" or too "vicious," he still seems to be Spyro after all.
DrZaelo15 3 years ago
But its crap if the cover version of Spyro is super-deformed(to look cute). The japanese will then say "What the hell? I thought I was playing a super-deformed dragon? Who's idea was this?" in Japanese of course.
