  • EXCELLENT*

    ~e~

  • what types of jobs r needed to make an animated short

  • hey lucas, i use maya alot, what are your thoughts on modeling the eye like u said, then just adding a shader vs. texturing the iris and pupil on?

  • @petrucciphan You mean the difference between a procedural shader vs. a texture? Both work fine. I tend to use images for more control and procedurals when I want something quick, but its all a matter of preference.

  • @LucasMartell thanks very much sir, you're awesome

  • I'm using max

but all 3d appications r the same

    i understand u very good

i'm now converting to xsi ... it looks great

  • i fing XSI to be better than blender... but this is me... blender is widelly used because is free... and its been there for a loooooong time... so people jus started to use it... but XSI as i see... is more capable witht they´r new ICE system... im a Maya user... im use to it but if i choose another app it will be XSI... not blender... i think blender is so popular because its free... and its ben on the scene like forever...

  • Blender ftw,

    good video. Nice tips :)

  • Lucas. have you tried Google Sketchup? Their 3D is now improved to a tee. try it! Maybe you'll like it!

  • Me i use 3ds max is that a good program to make models and animations cause im only 11 years old and i want to make an animation just like you it so awesome

    good job

  • Blender, free open source! and has a game engine and animation feature built it.. epic software :D

thanks a lot for these hints man, really helped me a lot.

  • Blender, havent tryed any other

  • Your animation rivals ANYTHING pixar has put out!! KUDO'S my friend!!

  • wait ur usin blender? holy crap... kudos dude, blender is hard to use...

  • Actually I'm using Softimage (XSI), but a lot of people seem to be using Blender.

  • @TheJuggaloMax No?Blender is very ease to use.

  • Blender works great

    blender ftw

  • Блендер!

  • maya i could really use some help cheers

  • Cinema 4D

  • Lightwave

  • 3DSMax and Zbrush!

  • blender

  • BLENDER!

  • Damn, a year too late but i'm using 3DS Max!

  • Simple questions:

1-How did you adjust the center of the eye so easily and kept the curve?

2-What is that other mesh that shows up AFTER you make the adjustment (0:53)?

    -----------

I use a number of programs. All provided free by the companies.

    -Blender

-Bryce6 (limited givaway (and used for quick simple texture rendering)

-Make Human (Rarely used. Bogs down system WAY too much).

    ----

I'm looking into getting Maxell Render and Real Flow. For some reason Python cancels out Blender's Fluids w/me

  • I think you're talking about the hard edges. Its something you can set on subDs in XSI

2-That's just a clear lens object that goes over the pupil. That's what gives that little spot highlight.

  • That makes so much sense! Look at real life sculptures. We model the pupils as "Craters" instead of simply making the lines. It "Fakes" the eyes.

I have trouble adding the extra highlight all the time in 3D. This is because I've not learned how to mask parts of my models so I have to render the eyes WITH my models.

I tried adding a the lens to the eye itself but it just ends up looking weird. Especially with toon characters.

    This little info helps TONS!!

  • Thanks!

    I'm using Blender.

  • Great tip, gonna give that a play.

    Blender!! =]

  • Blender open source FTW!! :D

  • Pretty good tutorial, I knew the information already, but the presentation was definitely appreciated. I use Maya

  • I'm using Blender 3D and the tools are really different

  • blender is very different but also very simple and powerful

  • I use maya. What are your thoughts on just baking the highlight on the iris.

  • It worked on Cars, but that was because the eyes were flat on the windshield. I think it works in certain styles, but you lose a lot of depth when it doesn't change with the light.

  • Mainly 3ds max, but starting to learn Maya as well.

  • i need help with the Iris texturing or coloring

  • Blender 3d

  • Maya and 3ds Max.

  • Blender.

  • hi there, i use 3d studio max, your work looks greak, im trying to do my eyes for my teddy character at the moment would love some tips xxx

  • WOW THAT IS REALLY COOL YOU SHOULD USE MAYA 2009 if you know how to use it.

  • Blender rules :D

  • Great podcasts.

Blender all the way, with YAFRAY render.

I worked with 3DS MAX but got tiered of all the separate features to get or buy, so switched to Blender package which has it all.

  • Maya! and combustion for compositing. great stuff!

  • I use Lightwave 3D

  • Blender3d - welcome to blendernation :D

I'm starting to like your multipass stuff - I'll have to fiddle with compositing sometime :D

  • Blender !! for me !!

  • blender.

  • I use 3ds max and Zbrush mainly, great tip about the iris, have been struggling to get good looking eyes!

  • 3ds max. Really liked the multipass rendering video!! Trying to sort out a similar setup in Max

  • Blender

    Mapzone

    Gimp

    Open source ftw!

  • Blender! =D

  • Blender.

  • 3D Studio Max 2009 here. Used to work with C4D.

Loving your podcasts by the way. Keep it up, and good luck with P:I !

  • Blender. I'm a noob. Only got about 100 hours in it, so anything would be beneficial to me.

I'm not even through the manual yet, just up to modeling. whoo. My engineering degree was faster than this :)

  • Great podcasts. PI looks amazing so far....oh and Blender.

  • blender for me :)

  • i use maya ..... keep the good work

  • blender!!

  • I'm using Studio Max 9. And thank you so much for these little podcasts. Hopefully they'll make my work look less crappy.
