  • As I watch this video, it's 7:28 in the morning. The Whole Foods across the street opens at 8 (I'm making the pork chops from the Season 6 episode). This is such exquisite torture! (why pork chops at 8 AM? I work graveyard.)

  • Sugar glass is a stuntman's best friend :) How many other movie props double as a stunt scene and are edible! (don't eat the sugar glass.)

  • Happy Halloween for 2011

  • LOL love the tootsie pop reference

  • lmao hippie chow

  • Love the Tootsie Pop reference

  • 8 packets of gelatin O.o

  • I like to add cayenne to desserts too!

  • Great show but I ran into a huge problem while watching this and iron chef. I have to be eating something while watching or I go insane. lol Not a healthy show for some .. lol

  • Happy Halloween everyone! Posted on 10/31/2010

  • I wish that it was legal to give homemade candy to kids for halloween but those stupid criminals have the nerve to put poison or razors into the candy

  • @sonicfreak04 thats happened like...twice...ever. people freak out at nothing

  • @sonicfreak04

Hell I'm skeptical even about store brought candy.

Some people like to give us year old candy.

This is why i fear reeses because I've bitten in to a dozen really old and dry ones.

  • Yeah. He's gonna be scarred for life because of his mother. And the bad news is we still don't know who his father is.

  • i love it when alton brown tells me to flip over and lube liberally.

  • ALton Brown: Effing food god badass!!

  • lulzy tootsie pop reference. "Mr. Owl, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?" "Let's see... 1... 2... 3... CRUNCH, 3"

  • ur a life saver dude!!!!

  • Pretty sure handing out homemade anything on halloween is illegal in most states.

Sure, you can try to get away with it, but all it takes is one nosy parent.

  • I think he was going to a party.

  • Our village halloween party lets us do homemade candy, except now they have FDA Chemists at the checkpoints to scan the goods. Kinda takes the fun away.

  • @SharpEdgeSoda well i know were i live schools cant do homade thing like we were gonna do food of france right i made a king cake (because it wasnt mardi grais time) and well the administration sees it takes it away from me and says this is a dangerus item (one my mom is a chief we knew what to do) and you know what i went to the office to get the container the Dangerus food they ate it oh sorry got of track but yea i hate it we cant give home made things out any more its no longer fun

  • aha! Mr. Alton ,how many licks does it take to get to the center of a peanut brittle?

    Heh! referance!

  • lol noxious hippie chow !!!!!!!!!!!!!! lo9lollolololololololololololololol

  • @bandage1011 The 9 really makes this comment.

  • 2:12 It sounds truly unreal but I found out brittles are amorphus and although they look like glass they have no long chain order and therefore, no crystals!

Cooking is some science, damn I wanna be a famous chef if possible.

  • cooking is not some science its all science

  • Not necessarily...

Depending on how you go about it, cooking is more of an art, and baking is an exact science...

(Unless you follow recipes, to the precise amounts... Then, its a science. ^^)

  • yes cooking is a art but its also the earliest method of chemistry.

cooking is a art and a science at the same time

an no i don't fallow recipes at all let alown to the precise amounts

  • If you apply science, then your dishes will always come out the same. If you follow art, it may be great one time and awful the next. I abandoned art years ago because If I like a dish, I want to be able to duplicate it. Yes a dish can start as art, but write down what you did and turn it into science.

  • I made the chocolate taffy (er... tootsie roll), and it turned out great! Make sure you use the latex gloves - If you don't, you may end up with blisters from the pulling!

  • that sounds a little naughty :D

  • Ooh. Touche'. Good catch - I wasn't on my best behavior apparently. ;)

  • I made this once. It came out good. But I didn't like the cayanne pepper in it.

  • Buy "allclad Pots, they are the Bomb!!! you can even put them in your will, because they will out-live you!!!

  • wow, i just attempted to make it, but it turns out its not as easy as he makes it look

  • I tried the peanut brittle by following his instructions and it also didn't work.

  • i think this is the only recipe ever, of peanut brittle, that does not require corn syrup.

  • I going to make this. It looks SO simple. All I need is the nuts, or seeds.

  • I love candy, but homemade is better.

    Especially Good Eats candy!

  • so cute lol

  • yer, they mentiont my country.

  • "Noxious hippie chow" Hahaha, god Alton is so badass.

  • poor elton, I just want to slap his mother.

  • I like the cast iron skillet diffuser trick. Very clever.

  • Useless coincidence: I just bought a cast iron skillet (two, actually, that fit inside one another so I can recreate the grilled cheese sandwich from S2E2).

  • it was a joke!

  • ahah alton and i use the same spatulas

  • Zyliss spatulas? i need to get me some of those!

  • hahahah noxious hippy chow

  • 8:37 thats what she said

  • cool a tootsie roll refrence

  • A-one

    A-two-hoo

    A-three

    *CHOMP*

    A-three

  • its actually tootsie pops but the chocolate taffy may be like tootsie rolls

  • for the brittle i was wondering if i could use honey roasted nuts????

  • There are actually 3 types of eaters in the brittle world: the licker, the biters, and the suckers.

  • Yeah, that is what I was thinking, and what I though he was going to say.

  • "you let me replace this candy, and I'll replace your costume"

I think Elton got teh better part of that deal lol :D

  • I just made the brittle, it's delicious buut if you don't like heat with your sweet's then don't add the pepper!

  • I love this show

  • hippie chow

  • Comment removed

  • haha, atomic peanut brittle

  • lol he shut his arm in the pantry door.

  • lol his face when he shakes the pan to brake the brittle

  • I LOVE the candy, but no one takes homemade candy anyway, because they think you put, like, cocaine in the candy or something.

  • thats so true. if some old guy was telling me to take some home made treats and was calling them real Good Eats i'd prolly think twice.but i dont kow about putting cocaine in them.

  • I don't think you should offer anyone your homemade candies for halloween. I'm thinking of gifting them.

  • no one would put cocaine in candy because.... people who has cocaine dont know how to make home made candy... and they wouldnt waste it by giving it to kids.... they'd do cocaine

  • The sweets are for Elton's costume party, not trick or treaters, good for giving to people you know. As an example: everybody loves my mom's fudge, they always request it for parties and things, but she would never give it out on Halloween.

Also, love the tootsipop Mr. Owl reference.

  • That is the Idea. Home made candy is only good for those who you know and those who appreciate it. I have cousins who would never touch anything home made. But I have relatives who barter for home made goodies. You only get if you give!

  • I feel very, very sorry for your poor deluded cousins.

  • i know, I hate how paranoid people have become. There's like only two incidents where someone did poison children but it was relatives

  • That's very true. All of the bad candy stories that have actually happened was due to relatives, not strangers. It was the purpose to blame the strangers handing out candy for the incident.

  • they'll grate you serve you with some rasins LOL

  • @hamsterlover0220 sounds corney

  • This is a real good episode... you can save TONNES of money making the stuff yourself as opposed to buying in store

  • lol nice reference to the tootsie poop

  • Anyone know what model or make of thermometer that is he is using?

  • It's the Maverick CT-03 Digital Oil & Candy Thermomter.

  • I like how he refers to eltons candy as Hippy chow

  • what's hippy chow?

  • Food for hippies.

  • It's like all healthy stuff, have you seen Bedtime Stories? the kind of "candy" that mom would give the kids.

  • That's cute that Alton named his production company Like the Hat Productions; I never noticed that watching his show on the Food Network.

  • AB's production company logo pops up at the ned of the newer shows; Like the Hat just brings you these clips on Youtube. (All hail likethehat!)

  • I love good eats. 'Nuff said. xP

  • I like granola bars, But as halloween treats, all I can say is LAAAAMMMMEE!

XD. Now I want some candy!

  • 3 licks?! wahahahaha! i agree! i also love the episodes with his nephew.

  • lol.. I like the Tootsie Pop reference there.. Hahaha.. I love all his references..

  • love the episodes with his nephew

  • Sorry to anybody who does this but the granola balls are right up there with people who hand out toothbrushes. I mean, come on people it's Halloween! Live a little!!

  • Whoof, what a cornucopia of crappy candy. Alton makes some good candy

  • cool just before halloween

  • just in time for halloween

  • i've been waiting forever for this
