I love that sink you Brits have awesome decorative stuff for homes. BTW use a frozen pop stick to run against it and you wont need any tape less for the garbage bin
Great video for those doing reno's for the first time. Though I am surprised they still make that type of faucet ! I used to hate the separate taps unless in a laundry tub joined by a hose.. Cold, hot, cold, hot, frustrating trying not to scald yourself but at least you have the cold water handy to sooth lol.
Hey, thank you for the video, but from a 28+ year veteran maintenance technician's POV ... Your process takes too much prep time and creates so much waste. A fine angle cut on the caulking tube will allow only a small portion of material to be dispensed. Then a quick and smooth slide over with your finger or a corner tool will produce the same if not better results. Just a thought, not trying to offend you.
@David45Abq You havent ofended me at all , but if you listen to what I say , this not for pro's like us but for the amateur. It's an option for people who don't do diy and dont have silicone formers etc.
It's not how I do it in my trade - 23yrs - but it might help those not in a trade.
Brilliant mate I haven't tried yet but seems good. Still saving money using masking tape instead of using Corner Tape which is expensive. Thanks again
hi, when i used silicone to seal the tap and tried to use my finger to remove excess all the silicone got stuck to my finger and had to repeat the whole step without removing anything with my finger!
What was i doing wrong? Can you advise? it was transparent silicone paste
@albundyhun Hi , well firstly like I said in the vid you shouldn't really use your finger but if you do you MUST NOT LICK YOUR FINGER!!! That said if you do do it like that spray/dab on the silicone you've applied some 50/50 washing up liquid and water , dip your fingers in the mix and gently smooth down and remove excess. You'll still get some on you finger but I just tend to wipe off as I go with tissue paper. You can get silicone removal tools tho' 'Karl Dahm' are one Co. who do them.
@albundyhun Wet your finger with soapy water first. Or use the handle end of a toothbrush, also wetted with soapy water. Keep plenty of paper tissue handy
It's always worth washing the area down with methylated spirits or alcohol first in case there are soap splashes on the wall/basin. I always use a thin latex glove to smooth the joint to save the cleggy silicone from my fingers. An alternative is to wrap some cling film around your finger making sure the fingertip area is nice and smooth.

That's really neatly done. Can i just ask, why did you use fairy liquid?
wasimsworld 6 months ago
@wasimsworld Use 50/50 water / washing up liquid , this enables your finger / caulking tool to glide over the top of the silicone.
DONT LICK YOUR FINGER TO DO IT!!!!
I wouldn't use transluceant myself , if there is a large gap in what you're caulking you can see it thru' the clear stuff.
Cheers
