What a great video!!!! I've had a big grin the whole time watching it. You cant help but smile. I had a 72 mercury lighting and always wanted a new Elan. Just bought a new Summit 800 154 and will have no more fun than when riding the old sleds

jah, i use have da elan to take papers to the folks in nenana, AK. den one day the handle bar falls down CLUNK eh? so i gets my neighbors newer moto ski, and throws the papers in the windshield, same machine right? jah, so i grabs the thumb throttle, and next thing looks over to see a trail of newspapers from me to the motoski about 30 feet away down the road telling me that not all sno-gos wait around a couple seconds before they rev up enuf to engage the clutch and motor smoothly away, nope!

I had a 73 Elan as a kid and it was awesome. It was the sled to own back in the 70's if you were a kid in Northern BC. I remember they came out with slider suspension for only one year think it was (79 Elan) with a 300 cc motor.

They have a HUGE track footprint for the size of the machine. I had a lot of happy hours riding on Elans. Got a '79 Polaris Gemini now, same basic idea.... little, light sled with big footprint but it's much more modern. I may buy another Elan for sentimental reasons, but I'm keeping the Gemini because it breaks trail just as good, but it's also good on groomed trails.

at 0:25  i have bought one of the RARE 1995 elans only 1200 made and only about 200-300 left in the world know to existance only paid 800 us dollars for it and man is it in nice condiction, its worth bout 5 grand :D whata steal

im not a ski-doo guy but i learned to ride on an elan, it deserves to be one of the best snowmobiles ever built. for simplicity, lightweight, capability, reliability and overall fun.

machinery is sometimes best in its simplest form.

The Elan is truly an indestructible legend. Our family bought a brand new one in 1988 and everybody and anybody put that poor machine through hell and it still runs great today.

Thanks for the memories! Rare pics too...a '72 SS! I miss my '73 elan SS. It would float over 3' of powder, and meander through a forest where no other snowvmobile could go. I was always made the trailblazer when riding with a group.lol It was the most enjoyable snowmobile ever built!

im used to it so i love elans you can best the fuck outta them and they will start first pull.

out of 2 stroke oil......it an elan, just dump some old castrol ya drained out of the truck into the gas tank and dump gas in, it'll still run like that. lol
