Don't talk daft. Alan Bown Set were a great live band. Try and get the one they did live at the Marquee with them on one side and Jimmy James and the Vagabonds on the other. Get a copy of that album in good condition and it is quite a collector's item.
Thanks for your reply. Not only do I have the LP which you mention, but I was there when it was recorded.
Incidentally, John Helliwell (of the ABS, and later Supertramp) is a personal friend, and HE agrees that their version of 'Gonna fix you good' was crap.
try a google search...A couple of years ago I was able to buy a CD of ABS with all the singles and a 30 minute live set from the 1965 ? / 1966 ? album with ABS called ' Live at the Marquee '
Anybody know where I can get this on CD? I've got it on a 45 single which has been to that many parties that it's got more scratches than a hawthorn bush !
Got a couple of Jess Roden albums from 1970's one called simply 'Jess Roden' and another one when he was in Bronco and this album is called 'Ace of Sunlight' both very good. Great talent, where is he now?
The vocalist is Jess Roden who went on to form the band Bronco and subsequently a solo career and the The Jess Roden Band.I'm going to post some Bronco songs in the near future.
It was when he joined the Alan Bown set that he started calling himself Robert Palmer, his first name was Alan.
I wish I could find a copy of the live album from the Marquee Club from 1966 with the Alan Bown Set on one side and Jimmy James and the Vagabonds on the other.
Re Live at the Marquee....The ABS tracks are included on a ABS CD which I was able to buy a couple of years ago....Try a Google and come back to me if you can't find it.... I'll see if I can find my copy but it'll be a few months as I now live in France and most of my CD's are back in the UK....Good luck

PLEASE! trya nd hear the original by Little Anthony and the Imperials.
Many US soul/r&B songs were covered by UK groups in the 60's; this is possbly the worst.

wow, i'm even surprised to hear a tune from this band here.
does anyone have the set playing "hobby horses head" and "all along the watchtower" on BBC Top of the Pops?
it was with jeff bannister doing the vocals.
two of the best tunes from alan bown set.
