  • Great!!!

  • Look how hype the crowd is, how much fun they're having, it's amazing. I love watching this video.

  • @originalfunkyfry Interestingly, THIS tour was the last time in Bill Haley's career where he actually played to audiences of young children! Many of these venues were private athletics and sports clubs where the wealthy class of Brazil sent their kids--since there was no middle class; just rich and very poor! Of course, even on Brasil TV "Happy Days" was a hit show, and the kids all heard "Rock Around The Clock"...

  • Bill...thanks so much on the update on Rudy. He sure died young. Wasn't Bill Haley Originally a C&W artist...or RockABilly artist before ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK turned turned them in to monster hit makers.

  • Is that Rudy Pompelli on sax. He looks rather young. Rudy could blow man...I mean really blow. Listen to him on RUDY'S ROCK!!

  • @Rusty350 Hi Rusty--that is Rudy, but unfortunately he was dying from lung cancer. He passed away 4 months after this tour, and he was 56.

  • isn´t elvis the king of rock´n´roll? But bill haley was amazing:)

  • I always remember when my mum told she went to a Bill Haley Concert in the 50's and the crowd just destroyed the whole place! What a musical and cultural revolution that was ! Amazing and we will always have to thank giants like him for what they did for music and entertainment! Thanks,Bill and all other Rockers up there!

  • Remembering the King on the anniversary of his death

  • Thanks for the reply Pick

  • Why aren't the origional comets with him. Did they separate for some reason?

  • Back in 1975, the original Comets were all retired from the band for over 10 years--and went back to working day jobs. It was ONLY after retiring from their day jobs in the 1980s that they got the idea to perform together again. In October 1987, I had gotten them booked at the Philadelphia Music Awards, and it was the first time they's even seen each other in 22 years! They remained together since that time...

    Bill Turner

  • By the way--check out the YouTube video for the Philadelphia Music Awards 1987 and you can see the report on "Entertainment Tonight" which includes footage of their performance that night!

  • when i feel a bit low a good dose of Bill and the boys does the trick

  • Great sax solo man! Rock it!

  • WTG Bill!

  • The real king of the rock!!! Great, great, great!!!!!

  • Sometimes people don't realize just how inventive and talented this man was. He was the ultimate performer. Even late in his career (like this) his phrasing, tone, tempo and delivery were impeccable. He had the power to move people in a deep and meaningful way. Always the consumate gentleman and professional, he was as good as they get and always had the respect of some of the biggest acts in popular music such as the Beatles and Elvis. Long live Bill Haley.

  • You are so right!

HOW many other people had Elvis, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis AND the Beatles as their OPENING acts????

He was there with the music before anybody else!

  • What a joy to see youngsters enjoy Bill and the boys

  • the only original left is al rappa ,,i was over his house looking at drywall in the celler that needed fixing up for his band room ,,,hes 83 ,,,i got his autograph picture and we talked for an hour ,,he lives in springfield pa ,,,,steve norwood pa

  • False! Al Rappa joined the Comets around 1959-60 and stayed till 1969.

The bass players on the Comets before him were: Marshall Lytle; Al Rex and Al Pompilli.....and Lytle & Rex are still living, as are Frannie Beecher, Joey D'Ambrosio and Dick Boccelli!

  • This is the genius of Rock that the thieving rodent Michael Eisner has been robbing for decades. Pay the man's estate, you vermin! Pay him! Pay the Man!!

  • WHO the hell is Michael Eisner???

  • Eisner was the head of Disney/ABC who removed "Rock Around The Clock" from Happy Days because he didn't want to pay Haley royalties. He also deleted all of the original 50s rock from the Happy Days DVDs.

  • it doesn't matter, the man is dead. but his song will always be the epitome of rock and roll, none other can takes it's place, whoever eisner is, he hasn't robbed nothing, you can't rob what isn't obtainable, and talent can only be witht the one endowed with it, never stolen!

  • WOW, i can't believe, there are so many kings of rock and roll, Elvis, Bill Haley, etc............ but let me tell you nobody sang the rock and roll like Elvis. His voice was perfect for Rock and Roll

  • ahhhhhhhhhh.... this is real music.... what happened to real music.... wish we could go back into time....

  • Go Bill Haley! Along with Carl Perkins, they are the real rock and rollers!

  • Beautiful !!

???? Bill Haley King of Rock n Roll 1975 ????

  • HE MADE THE GENRE

  • hi! beautiful video!!! but... does someone know where I can find a live version of "framed"??? thank you so much!

  • The band used to perform "Framed" on its live concerts, sung by Nick Masters--One lp has it: "Bill Haley Scrapbook-Recorded Live At The Bitter End" on Kama Sutra Records KSBS-2014

Good luck finding it on vinyl, though the last Bear Family box set of CDs has it.

    BT

  • thanks you so much! I hope I'll be able to find them.. but.. do you know if there is some video version of it?? I won't ask you anything else no more :) (sorry but my english is not so good... I'm italian)

  • Ciao Paisano!

I'm of Napolitan descent--your English is really great; the last time I spoke Italian was over 40 years ago, so it's me who's rusty! Usually when Bill Haley did a TV appearance, was during a tour--and it was a short appearance used in promotion of that particular tour--so it usually consisted of 5 or 6 songs--mostly the hits plus "Rudy's Rock". It's highly doubtful he would use "Framed" on that type of TV appearance.

    Buona Fortuna!

    BT

  • Well, check out the 1937 recording of "Rock And Rollin' Rhythm Of The Range" by either Gene Autry or Roy Rogers...it wasn't a euphemism for fornication back then...

  • Rock and Roll was used in lyrics way back, if you ever listened to jump blues they used it usually as a term for fornication.

  • Most people don't know how the term "Rock'N'Roll" came about.

Apparently some teen girl and her boyfriend were having fun in the backseat of the guys parents Chevy, that was parked on a hill. The car's parking brakes had slipped out of place, since the cars radio was on too loud the couple didn't know what was going on. The car ended up in a rocky ravine with the couple bailing out through the cars window. Some Radio DJ caught the story and on air coined the phrase "Rocking and a rolling".

  • The term Rock N Roll was coined by Cleveland Disc Jockey Alan Freed in 1955.

  • xD the half of the crowd is dancing, half is quiet!

  • Elvis is called The King of Rock and Roll because he was the one who bridged the genres. That is something that Haley didn't do, but he did, along with Chuck Berry, lay the groundwork for Elvis to take it where it needed to go.

  • You could say so.

  • I just did. : )

  • Well---Haley was already the King of rock & roll BEFORE Elvis even had a career...

Haley is perhaps the only performer in history who had BOTH Elvis AND the Beatles...as his OPENING ACTS!!

That's how ahead of everybody else he was back then! Elvis and Haley were also friends throughout their careers--El dropped in on Haley when he was in Germany in 1958 and also in the early

70s, when Bill appeared in both Las Vegas and in Memphis! Almost nobody know about this!

  • That introduction was totally wrong, what a idiot, I love Bill Haley and he was one of the greatest of all time however, he was not he king of rock and roll, and he was never addressed as the king of rock and roll.. There is only one king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley.

  • Haley was the original King Of Rock'nroll...Just check out some of press coverage of Bill haley 1955-57 and you will see that haley was called the King.then of course presley took the crown..But Bill Haley was the original king and that is a fact !!

  • Increible.......una joya

    incredible,a true gem!!!

  • i want to invite you to my uncle farm

  • thanx for this interesting film

I guess Bill was loved the whole world over!

    he really was great.

  • What a great tone Rudy had, and great timing, always knew when to lay back.

  • Yes indeed-even when hampered and severely weakened by lung cancer, he still knew how to compensate and still get it all across. Rudy was the all-time greatest.

    BT

  • great show classic rocknroll , well done pickinbuddy for keepin bill haleys music alive

  • Thanks to Pickinbuddy for putting up this great footage!

The band sounds wonderful. What a shame about Rudy, he looks really sick. Brave guy though, touring when he was so ill. What a great sax player, the comets were never the same without him.

  • Great to see this footage of Bill.Sadly Rudi Pompilli on sax died several months after this was filmed.
