  • What kind of bow is he using? I thought that usually a bass or cello bow was used for musical saws, but that looks so specialized.

  • Difficulty level: Asian.

  • :( I could die right now this is so beautiful. No other instrument kills me like this one.

  • "Another" saw from "Another Earth" brought me here. This is beautiful..

  • Utterly amazing!

  • I want to ask to Hajima Sakita if you can send me information about the origin and history of the Musical Saw in Japan. Thank you, very much.

  • Hajime Sakita is one of the top musical saw players in the world, and I am honored to know him as my friend!

  • The only saw I saw was the saw I saw with.

  • GOD DAMNIT! ASIANS KAN PWN US ON SHIT THEY FIND THEIR GARDENSHED!! I´ll go sell my guitars now....

  • Wasn't Austin first to do this?

  • Excellent!

  • Quelques grincements dans la scie. C'est dommage.

  • no w after the performance i think the people are scared that he might saw them in half

  • My lullaby before going to sleep. It always bring me a shiver and tears of inner-happiness.

  • AWESOME

  • Wonderful!!

  • professional bow for saw:0

  • viola?

  • Even though i can't understand them, the Japanese are such gentlemen.

  • SO. AMAZING. *scuttles off to stalk him*

  • His bow is crazy!!!!

  • His pants make me lol

  • This guy is using cutting edge technology, literally.

  • I born to discover your song.

  • Hauntingly Beautiful!

  • I think I asked this on one of my old accounts but... does anyone know where to find his cd in the US? He replied to me a couple years ago, but the link he gave me was Japanese and I couldn't seem to order from it. I have the world's biggest man-crush on Hajime. Amazing.

  • "no mom! I wont be a doctor, I just want to play the saw!"

  • I want to learn this.

  • It sounds so beautiful... I keep forgetting it's a saw if I look away from the video. I have something that can make that sound sitting in a pile of dust in my garage.

  • aliens gonz come now

  • more beautiful than the violin

  • I'm loving the tartan pants :D

And of course the performance, very strange and beautiful.

  • If you listen carefully, there are a few rough sounds produced by the saw that sounds like croaking / cricket sounds. the saw instrument really suits the song coz it makes u feel like ur listening to it in the moonlight out on the field or on ur rooftop while gazing at the stars...

  • hes cuuuuuuuute.

  • beautiful and amazing

  • Awesome skill! Bravo! Thanks for sharing the video.

  • うつくし! ありがとう~

  • @WeirdBrothersTV Yes, he is.

  • This guy is my favourite saw player in the world! My objective as a player is to get to his level... too bad we can't find much information about him on the internet...

  • @Cabenfa are you a saw player

  • @iktethash Yes, I am. A recent one (I've been playing for around 3 years now) but still a saw player! Ehe!

I have a band that uses the saw as lead instrument... you can check it on my videos.

    Do you play too?

  • lol asians bring everything to a new level.

  • nice!

  • wow...what a delicate instrument...definetly one of the most beautiful i've ever heard, along wit the cello and oboe

  • The name of the song????? please¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • @POPERONR24 The title of the song is "Viola" which was named after his friend.

  • Love the sound, Hate the pants :P

  • that is scary

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • absolutely brilliant!!

  • 1:43 i love you

  • Breathtaking! Bravo! Gotta look for his CDs now!

  • Sounds hawaiian, doesn't it?

  • yeah a little ! but much sadder...

  • Could someone tell me what is the exact range (tessitura) of the musical saw please ?

  • @NoirOrchestre would depend on the length, width, and thickness of the individual saw, plus some fancy schmancy mathematics

  • @NoirOrchestre I think it's 4 octaves above middle C.

  • I want to know what is so funny at 2:47...... I wanna laugh too!!!

  • The interviewer asked Hajime his schedule, but Hajime was not so sure about his own schedule and asked him to check his web site.

  • @epilogue18 Thank you. That's pretty funny! :D

  • @yugen852 I don't understand neither, but what a pleasant language to listen to.

  • Wow! Agree with yardbirdsweet - the best saw playing I've seen so far.

  • Assessment Fail - Viola?

Beautiful playing. I want to get a saw! 5 stars.

  • @matthewcross viola is the name of the song. . .he composed it :)))))))))

  • Very excellent pitch control and vibrato. Definitely the best saw playing I've heard.

  • what type of bow is he using?

  • he uses violin bows and sometimes he makes bows from scratch

  • @epilogue18

actually, in this video, he is using an er hu bow

  • This is great! The saw sounds a lot like a theremin.

  • Yup, but with a cleaner sound.

  • A truly artistic performance.

  • finally someone who figured out how to use vibrato with the saw!

  • Beautiful. Seriously beautiful. 5 Starts.

  • This best use of the musical saw I have ever heard. Quite sublime. Before this video, I always hated hearing someone play the alleged instrument. Hear it too often in the MTA subway stations of NYC.

  • that's not a viola

  • It's the name of the song, named after the infamous sawist, Viola Blacklock.

  • interesting sound

  • this is impressive o.o

  • the legs said man but later using so much this saw they changed their mind and say woman

  • Nobody's worried, except you!!

    Just grow up!

  • i would never had thought of using a saw like that....that is simply amazing

  • Mesmerizing.....I've watched this video several times and can't get enough.

  • Lovely...

  • austin don't invent saw music

  • You are absolutely out of your mind.

  • Bigotry ftw!

  • as in what brand.

  • anyone know what kind of saw he uses?

  • what

    the

    hell?

    0.o

  • is there any actual songs or CDs that have this kind of musical saw, instead of the overly wavery sound?

  • one is used on In The Aeroplane Over The Sea played by Julian Koster. I think he plays it on a bunch of other Elephant 6 bands. it's been used in of Montreal songs as well.

  • nice

  • now, if he did it with a hammer...

  • by far one of the most beautiful things i've ever heard

  • ....WOW... that's all i have to say....

  • That was beautiful. And completely weird...

  • wow! you learn something new everyday

  • Anybody know exactly what kind of bow that is??

  • epilogue18. They cut those saw teeth only they don't accidentally hurt or it has a direct involvement on the sound they produce?

    Thanks!

  • thats not a Viola you dunce bucket

  • Actually, the name of the song is Viola, believe it or not.

  • but the instrument is not a Viola

  • Crikey that thingi must take ages to learn

and pitty his balls must be killing him.

  • it just sounds like the theremin..

  • It is pretty similar, although there are distinct differences.

  • That is just so fucked up sounding!

  • does anybody know what type of bow he is using?

  • He uses a violin bow to play. Sometimes he makes a bow for himself when he wants a bow of a specific size.

  • On this video, its not violin bow! Its looks more like a contrabas bow

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful. Sounds almost like a Theramin.

  • Would you consider being my saw mentor? I am trying to get away from slurring from one note to the next and bow noises. Thanks

  • it sounds like whistling

  • What is he playing?

  • Saw

  • Hahah, I knew that one, but what is he playing, what is the name of the song he's playing?

  • oh. Ha. Im not sure

  • Monsieur Sakita vous jouez à ravir et c'est un pur bonheur de vous écouter !....

    Merci à vous

  • sans interêt peut-être, mais je persiste et signe !...

  • sorry umm... slang term for awesome or extremely good.

wicked saw chops, or really good skills with the saw.

im sure it originated here in America. We have such weird slang habits here and I admit I abuse the language as well.

  • I just want to know where he got his pants. it must have been the same place he got those wicked saw chops.

  • wicked?

  • I wonder how he gets so few of this scratching violin-like sound... Because, aside from being nearly perfectly in tune, it's one the things that realy sets him apart from other saw players...

By the way, this is really a wonder of a video.

  • It's done by being very light with the bow and playing with the very edge edge. It's barely touching the saw.

  • Great!

  • Amazing! Thank you for posting it up! May love be with you always...

    His autumnrain, becca @->---

  • I've never heard another saw player as amazing as this fellow. I am utterly in love with it.

  • Beutifull!! 5/5!

  • I'm in love with this guy and his music - many saw players make the most dreadful noises, it sounds like they're killing cats! This, on the other hand, is real music. It's amazing.

  • That is crazy...

  • great!!
