@MegaUnavailableusern I was being sarcastic. I actually met and have a pic with Behdad Salimi. He is 1 year older than Pat, and Pat has been training full time for Weightlifting for almost 4 years now.
@BROZKNOWS what do you say- 425-430 total gonna be wild enough? or 375-380 from Rob? Rooting hard for yall. If not- im believing 2016 will be something special
@BROZKNOWS It must be pretty embarasing, creating some of the strongest and most athletically able men in the world - and being one yourself. Yet somehow internet lifters always seem to know best and remind you of it?! I don't understand the world sometimes...
This guy is awesome, I watch it every night. I always believed it was possible to lift without belts pad or any suit. I was afraid to max and by watching him lift this heavy boosted my goal. I went to the gym for pr of 230lbs for squat and 150lbs bench and ended up doing 280 and 210! John broz,s method of training is awesome. Look at his freak of nature athletes like pat. Few more years and his gym is gonna surpass elitefts or west side barbell.
thats intense! i do power lifting, i was state champ last year going for my second year.. but if im right on like bench dont you have to pause, and have to have feet perfectly still.. thats how they do it from where im from
@johndeere445 do you even know what a snatch is ? rofl you fucking retard the bar cant hit your toes because its elevated of disc diameter , bar ? almost impossible to break , floor ? its rubber and plates are coated in rubber ,stupid youtube cunt
insane, this guy is going to be breaking some serious records when hes older if he continues to train and educate/or continue himself on biomechanics. amazing, respect.
@BROZKNOWS when people give you tips on lifting I cant help but relate it to when our customers at my UPS store tell me how to tape up their boxes. Thanks, its not like i do it all day everyday or anything...
Pat has some amazing lifts. Does he ever plan on competing in the Olympics? Considering how strong he is now, in 10 years he will likely set world records across the board in Oly and power lifting.
@AnnihilaterX in 10 years, his career as a weightlifter would end. not many 30+ year old weightlifters do well. they're usually at peak performance in early or mid 20s
Ever considered strongman? With numbers like these at the tender age of 19 I can foresee this man becoming the next Mariusz Pudzianowski.. in 10 years or so!
@DoNultima a 5'10 strongman will not even be in the top 10 in ten years. Currently with monsters like Shaw @ 6'8, 420 this is the trend. The future of strongman: 7'+, 500 #.
@BROZKNOWS What? Sure the current champion (Shaw) is 430lb 6'7 monster but you don't have to be. If pat continually increases his snatch/dl/squat numbers each year for the next decade I can truly see him becoming a star. The most sucessful strongman in history with 5 X WSM wins, 4 X Strongman Super Series wins and 15 world records in Strongman events is "only" 6'1.. Mariusz Pudzianowski!
@DoNultima Everyday strongman becomes more popular. As this happens, we will see the emergence of a new breed of "strongmen" geared more specific for the events that they do. Most of the events are easier for taller, long armed athletes with greater leverage. MP was a phenom, but in 10 yrs his numbers will be obsolete by someone 100# heavier, 1' taller.
@BROZKNOWS Oh I see. I don't quite agree with your predictions, but I'm just saying Pat Mendes is amazing, and if I were HIM I'd at least try strongman events. The human race will obviously evolve but I'd like to believe no one will surpass Mariusz Pudzianowski.. at least not break his records or win more than 5 times. Being 6'1 means he is relatively bad at "fingal fingers" and makes Atlas' Stones harder, but it doesn't effect deadlifts, squats, farmer's walk, tire flip, etc
@BROZKNOWS I find it surprising that just about every strength athlete knows each other despite the different sports they specialize in (Oly lifting, Powerlifting, Strongman) But I'm afraid you're right. People like Poundstone, 6'2 and 320 lbs are even considered tiny for the sport, in WSM it's always been about size and there are no tie breakers for B/W like lifting sports. I wish they'd do away with the suits and bullshit. But I'd love to see Pat own some events in WSM sometime :-)
@RandomStevie Any one can learn some technique, not to mention It wouldn't surprise me at all if he could just naturally standing throw 55-60 with a 16#
I think I have seen heavier deadlift and bench, but they definately totaled 200lbs less on the big three. I have also never seen anyone clean more than 405 and this kid does 500. This is fucking crazy. Im a teen bodybuilder who can bench 425, squats 515, and deadlift 455. Major props dude
this kid is by far the strongest. I think i have seen a heavier deadlift, but his bench was 400 and his squat was around 600. This i fing crazy. Im a teen bodybuilder at 285, bench - 425, squat- 515, deadlift 455 props
What if I tell you I know a 19 year old who benches more than this guy and does more that one rep without a sport. I'm going to post a video on Wednesday. He working on chest Wednesday so watch out for the video from Brampton, ON Canada
@Medouze1656 Lol. What are you implying? Come on dude, be straight forward with your comments especially since you don't have much to your profile. Oh, and just to let you know if you don't already, the young magnificent man in this vid benches at most twice a year while YOUR friend does so every week; just some food for thought :)
this guy is ridiculously strong, i love watching videos like this before the gym because it proves someone at only 130 kg can lift world class numbers, it proves to dont have to weight 350 to squat 800 or pull 900
does Pat ever compete in power lifting competitions? because with a 507 lb raw bench and an 800 pound squat i think he would kick ass, what does he max on deadlift? and i was also wondering why does he never wear a belt? lol
Also, would you recommend that style and speed of squatting to someone who had hip tightness and couldn't go all the way down? I'd imagine a tail tuck at the bottom of the hole at a high speed would be a rather bad idea...
In case anyone ever stupidly asked "but how much can he bench?"....
Curious, how long does it take for someone who comes into your gym to go from squatting 1-2x a week like most people to 2x a day 6 days a week? And I'd imagine you guys up the frequency of squatting quickly instead of waiting for them to hit a certain percentage over bodyweight, etc?
@BROZKNOWS Hi, I've been thinking about using your system, however I'm not really sure if I should start it now. I currently squat about 1.5BW for reps , DL 1rm is a bit more than double bodyweight but my bench and press are seriously lacking. Anyway, what I wanted to know was if this is a good time to start using your method or should I wait until I hit 2.5xbw DL, 2xBW squat etc ? Thanks!
@NewTypeOfHybrid you stupid shit just like u see those circus guys doing dangerous shit or indiands playing with cobra venomous snakes (extremely dangerous) u see him doing the snatch. why ? because he MASTERS it , learn the basic principles of life you fucking moron
hey coach, noob lifter here, is it true that when you jerk you are supposed to catch by pulling yourself "down" instead of trying to press the bar up by using the momemtum gained by the "jump" ?
What other factors are most relevant Mr. Broz? Are you talking about limb proportionality (i.e. length of arms, legs, femur, etc.) or natural athletic talent and ability? It seemed logical to me that the further distance the bar has to travel i.e. the taller you are, the more you should weigh/added strength that comes along. How does one find their ideal bodyweight, in your opinion, assuming relatively normal body proportions?
@acon120 the taller you are, the more you have to weigh obviously. two extremes are cholakov who was 6'8'', 370 and naim who was 4'11'', 132. usually the shorter you are the better in weightlifting. If you're quite tall you usually have to be a shw to be competitive (salimi, chigishev, etc.). however sometimes there are tall guys in the lower classes like kolecki, and shorter guys in the shw like shane hamman. so nothing is really set in stone here.
@slimjamie1991 yeah, even mendes is only 5'9 or 5'10, but 285 so his levers would work better than a really tall guy too. Honestly the kid is a freak, I don't even know how you can be that strong with drugs or not.
I don't mean to question Broz or Pat because you obviously know what you're doing but shouldn't Pat be using his legs more in the bench press? Looks like he's dropping form half-way through that press? I'm sure there's a reason for it...
people seem to bitch about his weight on blogs saying in relation hes not that strong. But I say bollocks tot hem fair play lad at 19 that is stupid strength.
Another question Mr. Broz: how long have you weighed over 100 kg? I'm 5'11'' 185 lbs, 23 years old and want to weigh at least 94 kg (and get a lot stronger) before I compete in Oly weightlifting. Do you encourage people to get to their ideal weight as fast as possible or add the weight linearly over a longer period of time? Thanks.
@acon120 Ive been over 100kg since '96. Ideal bodyweight really depends on many factors - too hard to tell just by age and height. However I would not wait much longer to begin to OL since you are already 23.
@BROZKNOWS Don't sweat your age.Alexeev didn't hit the international scene till he was 28 at columbus Ohio and hit he highest clean when he was 35 and if not for the injury would have went higher.Mang hit the scene as a teen and was gone by 25
@kirmizigulm i dont think hes good enough to compete at that level :) bc it goes by weightclass and hes goiging to be competing with people who are like pure muscle at that weight but not really pure u know wut im sayin :)
Impressive.

I love how many people try to tear this guy down obviously because they are either uneducated, or just plain jealous.
Im 21 years old, this guy is younger and MUCH stronger than me, and I find this extremely inspirational.

hey coach, noob lifter here, is it true that when you jerk you are supposed to catch by pulling yourself "down" instead of trying to press the bar up by using the momemtum gained by the "jump" ?
spartan1081990 4 months ago
holy shit the bar looks like rubber

What other factors are most relevant Mr. Broz? Are you talking about limb proportionality (i.e. length of arms, legs, femur, etc.) or natural athletic talent and ability? It seemed logical to me that the further distance the bar has to travel i.e. the taller you are, the more you should weigh/added strength that comes along. How does one find their ideal bodyweight, in your opinion, assuming relatively normal body proportions?
acon120 4 months ago
@acon120 the taller you are, the more you have to weigh obviously. two extremes are cholakov who was 6'8'', 370 and naim who was 4'11'', 132. usually the shorter you are the better in weightlifting. If you're quite tall you usually have to be a shw to be competitive (salimi, chigishev, etc.). however sometimes there are tall guys in the lower classes like kolecki, and shorter guys in the shw like shane hamman. so nothing is really set in stone here.
slimjamie1991 4 months ago
@slimjamie1991 yeah, even mendes is only 5'9 or 5'10, but 285 so his levers would work better than a really tall guy too. Honestly the kid is a freak, I don't even know how you can be that strong with drugs or not.
HXCpr0n 3 months ago
not trying to start anything, but shane hamman snatched 197.5 in competition so I'm sure he must have done 200 in training at some point.

Kudos to you guys. Looking forward to seeing the next summer olympics!

I don't mean to question Broz or Pat because you obviously know what you're doing but shouldn't Pat be using his legs more in the bench press? Looks like he's dropping form half-way through that press? I'm sure there's a reason for it...

i dont know, thats why i am asking, but is a squat easier or harder when you go down fast and bounce back up like that?
o0OISKY0o 4 months ago
@o0OISKY0o yes it is but also it makes you tougher mentally to try such a thing with superheavyweight

Thanks.
acon120 4 months ago
@acon120 Ive been over 100kg since '96. Ideal bodyweight really depends on many factors - too hard to tell just by age and height. However I would not wait much longer to begin to OL since you are already 23.
BROZKNOWS 4 months ago
@BROZKNOWS Don't sweat your age.Alexeev didn't hit the international scene till he was 28 at columbus Ohio and hit he highest clean when he was 35 and if not for the injury would have went higher.Mang hit the scene as a teen and was gone by 25
themetalgod21 4 months ago
@BROZKNOWS You've weighted 100kg since you was 6 years old? :S

@kirmizigulm because they are next summer and the USA hasn't picked the team yet.
BROZKNOWS 4 months ago
@kirmizigulm i dont think hes good enough to compete at that level :) bc it goes by weightclass and hes goiging to be competing with people who are like pure muscle at that weight but not really pure u know wut im sayin :)

Semi-irrelevant question Mr. Broz- How many times has Pat bench pressed since coming to your gym, 2/3 times?
acon120 4 months ago
@acon120 4 times total. 1 of which I was not there and found out later. The smack talk started and then a bench-off went down.
