@aubry96 It looks like that because an owl's body is much smaller and slimmer than it looks because they have such long fluffy feathers. You see it's legs sticking out from under its body, and the long full feathers all around it.

@aubry96 it's because owls in actuality are really a lot of fluff, those feathers make them look much bigger, so when the feathers are parted, and the rest are fluffed up, it's a little ways down to their skin, and also their skin isn't really smooth or nice, it seems dark and bumping in this picture, which is about right
