  • Where can I buy this song ? Will be in Iceland in June.

  • love icelandic, so pure, closer to old norse, not so contamined or influenced by danish like the norwegian and swedish =(

  • i want to visit iceland so bad

  • This song is so powerful..

WE SHOULD DEFINETLY USE IT AS OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM!

I love Iceland a bit more everytime I listen to this song! :')

  • þetta er besta lag í heimmi !!!!

this is the best son in the world

    iceland rules!!

  • This is just a one of many amazing songs about iceland.. the icelandic national anthem is called o gud vors Land

  • No it´s NOT! It´s called Lofsöngur.

  • gud vors land, is in the song but it's called Lofsöngur,

  • Ég elska Ísland!

Song is incredibly wonderful - one of the most beautiful ever heard by me.

Honor and respect to your great country from Pólland!

  • hello folks i am icelandic, swedish and norwegian are not closely the same as icelandic, we talk the language of the vikings, and it hasn't changed much for 1000 years because of the isolation, but i love this song of course, i've heard a better version it, better singing. But as they say "icelandic tongue, the most valuable heritage" is tru and i hope it will not change in the future, though i am affraid of it that it will:(

  • Im not icelandic and i really hope that all icelandic will keep their heritages and values them.Your country and language is really beautiful hope that Icelandic will take care of it .... so sad for some other country .....

  • ok thanks

  • is this like an icelandic national song or just a song?

  • I think this would be called an Icelandic national song, :)

  • no but it sounds like it and compared to the text it should be but the icelandic international song is called, ó guð vors lands.

  • @nicegirlfromiceland No this is not the national song of Iceland even though many want it to be so.

  • @trex250 When I wrote this I meant like, in the same category as Á Sprengisandi, Í Hlíðarendakoti (Fyrr var oft í koti kátt), Ísland ögrum skorið, Öxar við ána, Hver á sér fegra föðurland. I know the Icelandic national anthem isnt this song.

It was just a matter of icelandic translation problem to english cause these songs are all þjóðlög and that made me think it translated to national, maybe the correct term would be folk song, not sure.

  • it sounds swedish in some words but it's more like norwegian in my mind, more like newnorwegian(nynorsk) island er landet me aldrig skal gløyma. drøyma strøymar fedrene, dyraste arv, blinkande nordlys. island i huet.

    so many similar words

  • no the Icelandic is realated to Danish and Føreysku

  • True to some extent.

Icelandic is a modernisation of the old Norse language spoken in Norway, Sweden and Denmark during the time of the Vikings. The same applys to the spoken/written languange on Faroe Islands.

Most of the Vikings that inhabited Iceland and Faroe Island actually came from Norway. So Icelandic is actually more related to Norwegian than Danish.

If it hasnt been for the Swedish and Danish occupation of Norway, Norwegians and Icelanders wold have spoken almost the same language.

Please keep on posting about Iceland. Any Icelandic oldies but Goodies would be appreciated, such as Kátir vory Karlar frá Akranesi, til fiski veiþar vóru. Forgot the rest. Oh and Ríþum, ríþum, útilegu menn í ódæþa raun eru bara aþ smala vé á laun. Forgot the rest.
