"You may train for a long time, but if you merely move your hands and feet and junp up and down like a puppet, learning karate is not very different from learning a dance." Funakoshi Gichin
kim do has +10 points, because of street fighter sound;) That shoryuken was of the hook^^ anyway, my favourite artist is steve terada, but his erformance in this video is horrible:(
@Feiky I totally agree , I'm 13 and i have been doing Japanese traditional shotokan karate for nearly 7 years . We train very hard and take our martial art not as a sport but as a never ending path ! We respect the founders such as funokoshi and train under his principles ! We do not wear multicolored gi's and train to music and we do not do flashy kicks and spins ! we complete all of our techiques with hips , power , compression-expansion and speed ! This is not karate ....
I seriously doubt you've given Steve Terada a real chance. He may not be your favorite, so you probably haven't seen many of his forms, but there should no way in hell he or even Kim do should be that low on the list, i don't know. You should check out some of his forms.
Meh...I still prefer traditional forms to XMA stuff. They all seem the same to me. Start with a back/front flip. Land in the ground pound squat. Triple punch combo with either spinning neck chop or backswing. Lots of 360, 540 and 720 kicks. Lots and lots of flips between two or three techniques. It looks cool but after awhile it is just stale. I really want to see these people do real forms and real techniques.
the guy picked for number nine shud hav NOT been picked. his hand techniques and combos were SLOPPY. the only good part about his form was his tricking
wow, I just typed in the times (like this: 2:01 ) and YouTube translated them into hotlinks, that jump right to the correct spot in the video. how cool is that!
the 9th was horrible, absolutly horrible, stances weren't close to low, not showing moves, and when i say horrible, what i mean is that i know he can do way better than that.
As someone who competed in forms in the early to mid 90's before leaving the sport behind, I enjoyed watching Terada and Emig the most. But I don't like watching performers who can't do the basics well, like if Michelle Kwan had just done fantastic jumps but did shit with the rest her routine. Also, artistically, even when done with precision and power, the choreography tends to be repetitive and not to build real tension. Feels more like public masturabation of self, to be honest.Great jumps
Yeah, would have liked to see Jon Valera, Carmichael Simon, Mike Chaturantabut, Jimmie Pham, and, well, if you're going to have three by Emig, you're missing the best work by Kim Do, definitely missing Richie Brandon, whose weapons forms were way beyond anything on here. This was drawn from a very limited and very time constrained time period. Take another look at old Team JPM stuff.
Then again, we're all free to make our own. Just, so long as sebricci here knows I disagree with his list.
Totally agree... All these forms are from the 2000s. Go back to 1990-1999. Classic Valera (from 1997 to 1999), Mike Chat (1995 to 1997), Carmichael's 1995 Bluegrass form, list could go on... Title should be re-named Best Forms From 2000-2004
haha clearly the maker of the vid grew up in a totally diff age of sport karate as evident of all the top 10's being people who made their names post 2003 bar a few people.
its funny u said all that cuz i was lookin at this vid expecting to see some old school people kim and steve are the only ones.
@OldSkoolKarate i agree, the best ive seen thats posted on youtube is chat from the 94 BOA. that beats any trick lol, just my opinion =) but he does do a back tuck in that form haha.
I take it you're a big fan of Matt Emig. lol, to each his own. Matt's great, but I still think Canonizado's routines are technically more difficult and regularly performed cleaner. You left out Rudy Reynon's kama and Kalmon Csoka's sword routines.
haha someone is obviously a fan of Matt Emig. I do have to admit that the number 2 form on here is one of the sickest I've ever seen. And that's saying a lot because Im old school, I competed 96-99. Good compilation of forms but oviously i noticed there's nothing before 2003
I mean, this is a nice video, and I know that forms nowadays are stuffed with tricks and all, but I can't believe you can make a greatest forms ever video and not include any of the legends and pioneers of the sport such as Jon Valera, Mike Chat, Jimmy Pham, and Carmichael Simon. Seems like a better title would have been "Greatest Forms of 2002-08."
yeah DLed to .flv then converted & put it in Movie Maker. Thanks for your videos by the way, those are the best on the net for XMA. I'm looking forward the next ones.
awesome forms. good order to but daniel sterlings 05 french open and sammy vasquezes french open 5 form wasnt in there. but it would be hard to fit them in with all those awesome forms
yeah i watched it. i think he deserves to be in the top 10. and i think that anis form deserves to be higher than chloes. blows it away in my opinion. but still good vids. have u seen daniel sterlings 2005 french open form? 1 of the best forms of all time!! LOL
