  • Showdown music.

  • The guitars are magic!

  • =D

  • gosh....

  • I love Neil Young and this is not a knock but Cowgirl in the Sand and Down By the River are the same song. High fevers can be a great thing!

  • I grew up listening to these records! Thanks Mom and Dad!

  • A song with a soul.:)

  • anybody else just shut out the whole world and get lost in the song anymore?

  • @rob21742001 Nearly every day dude! Put the headphones on, close my eyes, and there I go. To me this song perfectly captures everything going on in the world at that time. "Love is the answer" vocals while wicked guitars solos seem to symbolize for me a society being torn apart. During those solos I see news film from Vietnam, urban riots, and the chaotic maelstron swirling abound Bobby Kennedy as he lay dying on the floor of the Ambassador Hotel. Heavy imagery. No music today compares.

  • Meant the music, not the visual on this song...

  • Come on now-if young teens dig that Beiber kid-that's their right! Not to discuss here. Neil fans-check out Neil in Buffalo Springfield's "Mr. Soul" on Hollywood Palace-WOW!! As awesome as this clip was!!

  • @Msluvcats4ever his point was that bieber won't be remembered in 40 years time, let alone 5, but niel young is still listenedll this day.

  • @Dropletism I understand the point being made now-thanks for clarifying! Did you get a chance to check out "Mr. Soul"?

  • Ogni volta brividi come la prima volta. Neil the king <3

  • Hey Bieber-Bashers! Leave the 9 year old girls alone!

  • The Beatles were cute as they were ingeniously packaged by Brian Epstein for publicity reasons with one exception to to day's drek out there. The Beatles actually created endurable product that has withstood the test of time like my friend Neil Young singing above has stood the test of time. How can anyone dare compare Bieber with the all new "Beatles"haircut to the actual Beatles? The kids(who elected Obama BTW) made him a very very wealthy little snot nose brat who has NO talent what so ever!!!

  • @MichaelMan1966

Actually, nobody over the age of 18 listens to Beiber, it's mostly the shitty parents who buy terrible music for their children. And, would rather have had McCain, you old bastard? I'm not endorsing Obama at all, I'm voting for Phil Ochs this November, but I just don't get how making irrelevant statements does anything useful. Peace and love.

  • @MichaelMan1966 the beatles are just as shit as justin bieber, it's all just propoganda bitches!

  • 40 plus years...i want this played at my funeral!

  • I walked up to a digital juke box at a dive bar and put this on and the drunks came out of their comas. Followed it up with "Whipping Post" and it was as if everybody was transported back in time. Think of the movie "Awakenings" minus the medication. This is an enduring classic!!

  • @EnlightenedRogue that was good, came out of there comas, music does lift ur head dont it

  • love love love it

  • That has to be one of the most badass basslines in music history. It is FIRE!

  • @TheSunnyStar Thats so true! It really makes the whole song in my mind.

  • OOHHHH YEEAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!! DIG IT!!!!!!!

  • This song is so fuckin' great! So much to it!

  • Awsome!!!! i fucking love that track and neil s music.

  • <3 spettacolo..............................

  • the lead guitar is a bit lost/quiet on this :-(

    mjr

    tokyo

  • FREAKING AWESOME! As usual with Neil

  • I'm 19 and I would like to apologize for what my generation has done to music..

I really should have grown up in the 60's/70's. This is pure 100 percent, no bullshit, rock and roll!

  • ma ti kavla

  • that was neil young at his best you just get in to his almost endless fantastic riffs and his hant ingly brash uplifing voice jim

  • groovy track

  • HE IS A GOD!

  • Originality to the max. on this hit.

  • I predict this song will be a hit....good job writing and recording Neil Young. But what does it mean?

  • i know

  • Can I stay here for a while now?

Can I see your sweet, sweet smile?

    Neil Young is awesome.

  • totally ageless....

  • igot thousands of vinal &tape i guess they will go with me when i go computer's made them all obsolete

  • @chipbuhl Yeah--that's my situation too--Ive Vinly45's/LP's--You can upload Vinyl!- U Gotta buy cables & leads & have a Record Player to connect to P/C-- But if you do this you can upload your vinyl-whether to just keep them 'backed-up'--or make them public-)) I bit of tech knowledge helps too-Sadly I lack that part ;( Ha.....GoodLuck!

  • @chipbuhl enough people will say the same thing that if you keep them and preserve them, they will bring a pretty penny sooner than you think maybe. food for thought.

  • brillant

  • How f**king great is this!!!?????

  • really man

was it it about this man

he such a great song writer!

    great lyrics

    great guitar player

  • I love it!!!

  • This is "REAL MUSIC" as it should be! There is alot of "Good young talent" theses days, but theres also alot of music out there that sucks!! "Especialy Rap! "Long live"ROCK!!!.....

  • lost my cassette of this...love this

  • This Rascal is awesome !

  • I could see why he left Crosby, Stills & NASH, one word, jeoulsy. He was way ahead of them and they knew it. They made his music sound like shit because they couldn't hold rythym. Neil was so, much better off without them both, as a writer and the albums he produced were true gifts, while the other three just sat around and got high and kept performing over and over again their old music beause Crosby was washed up off the COCAINE SHORES. I have always loved your music and always will!

  • @tdybrsng Amen Brother!! "CSN did him "No justice!

  • @tdybrsng Amen to that brother!! "CSN did Neil Young "No justice!

  • my parents always liked him

  • I need those guitar licks today....

  • Well ya know he's been given the 'KEYS TO THE CITY[whatever that means?!] of TORONTO,ONTARIO!!!!!!!Creashonrebel

  • The Youngster is King.

  • Just for the guitar... and rock and rock and rock and roll

  • @pablobenitez1

I can honestly say ive never heard a song by any of those artists besides gaga, and it was a horrible experience. I hope to never hear anything like it again

  • She's originally Colorado Springs but now Crookston Minnesota. Hello cowgirl in the snow!

  • Love this song. Love Neil. I even named my youngest son after him. He's twenty one now, and looks just like Mr.Young did in his younger days. His voice is still as sweet as can be.

  • I love this . It takes me waaaaay back

  • Canada, USA, who gives a rat's ass. The man is an undisputed genius! More than 40 years on, his music is enjoyed by kids and grandparents alike. And, no, nobody will care or remember Bieber, Katy Perry, Maroon 5 or any of that other crap, but they will still be listening to Neil!

  • @Jesse615 yes yes yes!

  • @Jesse615 the dude, is a total genius, i agree with that, but some of the new generation will remember and/or care about those people you listed.

  • @Jesse615 i really hope so, his views on many things, especially politics, could help alot of people if they just listened

  • @Jesse615 aren't you guys bored of comparing every stupid pop star with timeless geniuses?

  • @Jesse615 thats exactly what i commented on another song (little wing-jimi hendrix) i got like 20 harsh comments, but it's so true!

  • @Dropletism Yeah, Little Wing is another all-time great song I love. Every time I listen to the song - and it's probably been thousands and thousands of times - I catch a little something different each time. Another song for the ages!

  • @Jesse615 F@cking right!

  • This reminds me of my very own cowgirl in the sand. Man I'm lucky... Can't love you enough.

  • btw, excellent song!! XD

  • I'm so tired of comments that have nothing to do with this music, please enjoy and don't bring up Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga. I don't fucking care what other people like. If you like this music, like it or comment something clever.

  • @LiPianist93 -- You're so right. Comparison (in that context) is such a low state.

If I must compare Neil Young, it will have to be to himself.

  • You say Lady Gaga, I say The Doors

You say Hannah Montana, I say The Rolling Stones

You say Owl City, I say Led Zeppelin

You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Beatles

You say Justin Bieber, I say Queen

You say Taylor Swift, I say AC/DC

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy & paste it to at least five videos. Dont let the spirit of rock and roll die!

  • @pablobenitez1

Don't worry too much..a few young boys and girls will find what they need, being led by the pure souls. I used to love this song when I was around 23-24 in the one of small countries in Asia.

  • @pablobenitez1 between a couple of years they will figure out that they´ve been listening to crap and they will see that this music is real :) don't worry, you only have to wait a while :D

  • I can stop listening to Neil Young.....o yea thats right, that is a good thing.

  • Much as the Monkees influenced the Beatles, the Red House Painters did Neil Young. But I dig him anyway...

  • Great song to booze cruise to

  • Speaking as a man who punched Neils lights out in a bar in Santa Cruz, Ca in 1969 during one of his more obnoxious bi-polar moments[and feels less than good about it to this day even though I was dating the bartendress he was treating poorly]who can testify for a fact the guy can take more than a metaphorical punch. Kudos to the man who has rocked us all for 40 odd years.

  • he's sure as spit more americana than your comment

  • <3 COWGIRL <3

  • CUNCA OBOŽAVA DA JEBE U STILU COWGIRL!!!!!!!!!

  • @mario1990puzo hahahaah

  • Neil and Crazy Horse- the Best

  • Young is alright, but the whole reason I got this album was for Crazy Horse! I FUCKING LOVE CRAZY HORSE!!!!!

  • What an amazing songwriter. My fave of all his work!

  • The track I first bought headphones for...I was 17 mt old man a bit older lol....he used to say oh not this shit again so the headphones were purhased and much blow smoked....a transitional event coz I think this album influenced my musical choices for years to come....in a good way coz I love neil young.

  • Godfather of grunge!

  • How could anyone not appreciate this talented "Young" man? Listen to those power cords. Man, this guy not only invented power cords, he was the most creative user of them. Are you kidding me? You think about Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney? Piss on em'. Neil Young, my man, 100% Pure talent, and 100% American. I'll take that over anyone else, any day. Thanks Neil, you are still the best, man. Never die. Adios, Escondidos.

  • @CHEGADESAUDADE1 Hah, I dont know if I'd call Neil 100% pure American, what with being born in Canada and all . . . But he's definitely a sweet guitar player, both electric and acoustic. The perfect balance between noise and melody.

  • @FuttBucker667 Sir, you are correct of course. However, do not forget that Canadians are also Americans. North Americans. Young was and still is the best, no matter how you slice it. His licks on his steel guitar will last forever. Much grass for your input. Antonio

  • @CHEGADESAUDADE1 well said he invented power chords before they existed which is why the grunge set took him as their mentor...ahead of his time in many ways

  • @CHEGADESAUDADE1 McCartney was a bass player

  • @markdmilner You are of course correct. My point was that Young was and still is far more talented than the famous people I mentioned. Although, I do seem to recall that McCartney did on occasion play lead on some of their cuts. One I believe was Taxman, and perhaps a few others. Thanks. Antonio

  • Let;s lay naked on the beach.

  • Damn, some powerful stuff here Neil. Only a few other musicians can translate some of the emotions Neil does into legendary songs like this.

  • The bass in this song is pretty awesome too.

  • I WISH I PLAYED GUITAR LIKE THAT

  • @slimbo159

    Practice.

  • Love the '1000 yard stare' of that Jack Russell Terrier on album cover.

  • ok, how in the hell could there be 10 dislikes, unbelievable

  • I do believe this was recorded in one take! Just something I heard....

  • bloooody masterpiece!

  • Brilliant..God bless Danny Whitten..Music for the thoughtful.

  • Did she say a raging fever or a raging beaver? I mean, he is from Canada and it may very well have been a raging beaver. I'm just sayin'.

  • @smokiebird06 We Canadians never get sick! Must of been the beaver, eh?

  • AND crazy horse

  • This always reminds me growing up with hippie parents and believe me they were!

  • Neil you are a music GOD gurkirpal singh

  • Is that a Chupakabra with him on the cover? LOL.

  • He wrote this song and cinnamon girl in 1 weekend with a Raging fever!!! What a talent!!! LOVE YOU NEIL , always!!!

  • My vinyl been done worn out..

  • i have the orignal album for sale

  • @chipbuhl Can you send to brazil?

  • i want the audio for this song!!

  • Dang...that's all I can say......brings back so many memories...

  • MR. YOUNG'S INCOMPARABLE "old black" fender strat which he re-strung a number of times but would not replace it -- "not on your life". Maybe the recognizable guitar sounds in all of Rock & Roll.

  • Comment removed

  • @brucetrueasblue

Old Black was a Gibson Les Paul not a Strat..

  • @brucetrueasblue Thought Old Black was a Gibson Les Paul... Great sound nonethless.

  • this song and guitar solo 5 from deadman will be with me forever. i just can't express the excitement and happiness i feel when i listen to his music.

  • pure bliss

  • What a wonderful song and oh the memories of a different day and age. Growing up without a care in the world and jammin toNeil Young.

  • As far as I'm concerned, 1972 was a banner year for pop/rock music. And for books, too. Great year! Especially that summer!

  • They just don't ride like that anymore.

  • forgetting THE WHO+Beatles?

  • Man I really love this song, eerie dark atmosphere, Unusual vocal delivery, head banging groove and mad guitar shredding.

This is metal, before there ever was such a thing.

  • @TheShatteredEntity

    AGREED!

  • Gotta love good long jam's. It's a shame we can't go back in time. I would have loved to see this guy live, stoned out of my fucking mind.......D.B.

  • @onebosshoss I got to do that once. He played solo and Linda Ronstadt opened for him. Great concert!

  • It really hits you good!! Hits you like nothing else in this world!!

  • BlaBlaBla

  • Really? Chael Sonnen? Cool guy! I wonder when he will get his chance to kick Anderson Silva's butt again. and this time pull off the win!

  • I was born in'58 and I can't say enough how great it was growing up in the sixties and seventies. Fourway street was one if the the best albums of the time and hearing these songs again conjures up distinct memories. Just look what we had for music back then. What a great era.

  • @istaph

Four Way Street was killer - I miss the 60s and 70s too

  • Nowadays a "long song" lasts 6 minutes at the most... this rocks!

  • what a freaking song! Dueling guitars, Classic. Some rifts are so pure and liquid. How the heck can a human do that.

  • College days smoking dope strobe lights boones farm apple wine bell bottoms thought we were hot shit counterculture

  • @americanfellow

Dropping acid and going to the ends of the universe and back while the instrumental portion of "Down by the River" played on....

    Those were the days....

  • @lenilenape

I forgot - long hair and army jackets and sandals or bare feet

  • @americanfellow

I was not one for Army jackets or sandals though.

Does not seem so long ago.

  • @lenilenape

:) A generation lost in space....

  • @americanfellow

All who wander are not lost.

  • @americanfellow Oh yea, 1972. Don't forget the asid

  • @onebosshoss

Nothing from my youth era will be forgotten. I had the time of my life

  • @americanfellow I'm with you. And we were all grunge years before grunge. You know what I'm talking about.

  • @americanfellow ...maybe alittle older bro,but still rocking!.

Boones farm was $1.05 a bottle. Champale if you wanted to get laid.

  • still got my original analog of this...

  • Dig it !

  • @w1ldrover i dug it ^^

  • Stellar song. I Just love to groove on the bass line!!!

  • I don't see how anyone could dislike Neil Young. I'm 14 now, and he's one of my all-time favourite musicians ever! He is also a huge inspiration for me when I play guitar. My dad showed me Neil's Heart of Gold once, and then I started looking up all the Neil I could find. That was 2 years ago.Now I know almost all the lyrics to almost all of his greatest tunes ! He is amazing. Nothing more to say.
