Don't get how this movie didn't get more attention. There was plot, comedy that actually was funny, and good songs. For one of the few times in his movie career (some others being "Charro!", "Flaming Star" and "Wild in the Country"), he wasn't cast in some stupid dichotomy of sorts (a scuba-diving/pro singing Elvis, a race car driving/pro singing Elvis, etc). No scantily clad bimbos, no random/weird moments for a song. This was actually a good movie, right up there with "King Creole."
This movie was based on the book "Pioneer Go Home." When it's author found out Elvis was going to play the lead in the film version, he was worried because he thought Elvis would not play the character they way he intended--a young man with a very dry, droll sense of humor. To his delight, Elvis played the character exactly as he'd written it in the book! That's what makes this film so funny!
This is take number 1. Hope someone finds the stereo master of the keeper take (7).
Hank Garland, as always does some great comping on his Gibson Byrdland. Not to mention the Jordanaires with Millie Kirkland, Floyd Cramer and all the others on the A-Team.
@heathbradford I haven't heard any others; I was going by the RCA logs of the recording session in Ernst Jørgensen's book "Elvis Presley - A Life in Music" published by St. Martin's Griffin books. Unfortunately the masters (especially the stereo ones) were lost by RCA many years ago. Don't know if any are available on CD anywhere.
@ranhar1 Google Elvis FTD then search for ' follow that dream ' All the out takes that are available are on this . its out there if you search for it. check Elvis on ebay and punch in ' follow that dream ' Its worth having especially if you are a fan.
The most underrated movie Elvis ever made. He's so naturally funny in this you can't help but smile throughout the film, yet he'll bring a tear to your eye when he defends his father in the final courtroom scene. If only they gave him more movies like this.
I'm 15 and I love this movie! I'm Italian and Elvis is my favourite singer.

Great movie. Great songs too. His funniest too. Elvis should've won an award for his acting in this movie. He was still passionate about acting then.
