i doubt he reely thought about what he was doig tbh, he didnt have much time to get to the ball and probably just hit it as hard as he could into the area to see what would happen. great goal though.
ok Luv this goal and love Roberto carlos but.. i don´t think that he meant that.. the ball was going out he did se a player in the box so he did what he could to make the boll stay in the game and did it with power.
@mikecoomsey1990 with no doubt this one. It is almost physically impossible to make a goal like this one. A week ago someone on TV was talking about this goal and according to the laws of gravity and physics this shot it is almost an impossible thing to do and much less with a ball in motion and running at that speed. The ball changed direction, it curved because of such strength hit and because it was hit on the right spot at the right moment.
A great goal but not as beautiful as they say. Without the goalkeeper's misjudgement he wouldn't have scored. I think that both Van Basten's goal against USSR and Totti's one against Sampdoria are better: a volley shot almost impossible to block.
Yes Van Basten's goal was amazing but at least he had an angle to work with, and the goalie could have caught it, that shot from totti, it wasn't that great and in both situations, they were pretty close to the net, unlike this goal where he was almost at the flag
Kep in mind that Van Basten's shot was volley after a 30m pass or so, against Dasayev, none other. But this one is still better imo because the angle was impossible and the ball was in mid air and nearly out.
i tell you what, i think he really meant that. You see how he places his body before shooting, it could never be a cross, only a shot. He tried and he hit jackpot.
Definitely not the greatest goal ever scored. Commentator's wrong, he didn't mean that. That's why he makes the surprised face with the hand over his mouth.
he meant it... theres no way a player as talented as him wouldve hit a cross so hard and close to the keeper unless he was aiming for the goal. he shot coz he saw the keeper off his line.
...just because hes suprised he got it doesnt mean he didnt mean it

R.Carlos should still be at Madrid. He is much better than their current options , even at 36.

I can see your point of view. Still I think those two goals were better (in their "impossible angle" category) for 3 reasons:
1)The volley shot
2)The goalkeeper had no fault
3)I still have doubts R.C. meant it
