i am an absolute pleb when it comes to classical music but this sound/tune/music is so full of memories, its like hearing and seeing my youth growing up by the sea in lowestoft and north devon then entering the Army, thankyou mr britten where ever you are.
Once I saw the opera Peter Grimes performed. I was sitting so high up that, when a man jumped overboard, I could see him bouncing up and down on a mattress.
If you have stood on the deck of a trawler on a cold dawn and watched the sun rise and to become immersed in the spirit of the moment, then you will understand that Britten was a genius!
Bernstein was due to go into the studio to record a complete Peter Grimes a few months after his untimely death. These 4 interludes give us a glimse of what would have been an outstanding interpretation
@srpaper Tell more! Explain why you think so. Is it the music as written you don't like ? or Bernsteins performance of this ,to me anyway great music.? It is no good leaving us wondering is it !!
One of the two best depictions in music of morning on the East Anglian coast (The other being, of course, Vaughan Williams' In the Fen Country) - lovely!
If you like this may I suggest doing a search on you tube AHAB Below The Sun - Part One....... Very different take on the majesty of the sea, but just as "oceany" in its own way
i visited britten's grave at aldebrough , what a beautiful place to rest , and a place he loved , there's no wonder he got inspiration for his music , unlike the multi storey carpark in lowestoft named after him , but where he spent his youth .
I saw this performed live by my city's orchestra and it's still amazing, I love the literal translation of the theme to instruments. I was wondering, who is this painting was by?
What Britten could do with orchestra in incredble. He really paints with music.

Turner + Britten now there's two great Brits not getting their full credit & appreciation for being originals.

After visiting Aldebrough on a number of occasions I can imagine where Britten got the inspration from, it’s a wonderful place as is Snape.

Yes, all the pictures are by Turner. His painting is rich of assonances with this music. Thanks for your feedback. :-)

the painting is by Turner. I think... It looks just like his work, so Its an educated guess I'm afraid. Hope this helps

I just played this piece in an all-county orchestra on March 21. I really like this piece a lot!

( For music homework )
I think it's a good piece of music, and I like how one instrument is used, then another, then another.

Brilliant evocative music.

I visited last year and really felt he has captured the sea front there wonderfully well. I walked along the pier with this running through my head.
So great they named a shopping centre after him!!
