  • When i went this summer, there was an 80% chance that you would see a bear, we didn't see one. BUT, we saw mini bears! 702-H anyone?

  • @FlipYak They told me since we were staying at tooth of time that we had 80 percent to see a bear. They told us that at the beginning of the trip and we didnt see a bear either :(

  • wow i was about 1/3 of that distance being the pace setter to see a bear on the 7th day of my 10 day trip i got to fill out a bear citing thingy!!!i was the only one!!

    then on and around fowler's mesa we had 6 bear sightings in 2 days

  • we saw a bear across a stream on one of our hikes halfway through the trip. i was the one to spot it, it must have been less than 30 yards away.

  • funny story when we were hiking we were going to cimmaroncito and i was hiking with my head down and i looked up and there was a giant bear with 3 cubs and many curse words were said and we slowly walked away and talked loud and we didnt die =]

  • Yes, Philmont is extremely close to Cimmaron. It is considered to be part of it.

  • Ha. He said CimmaronCITO. The backcountry camp. I don't think he thought it was in the town of Cimarron.

  • It's really cool to see a bear. I saw one in New Jersey once on the AT but I never saw any at Philmont last summer.
