Members of the group included John Batdorf (formerly of Batdorf & Rodney), lead vocals and guitar; Brent Mydland (later of the Grateful Dead), keyboards and vocals; Tom Leadon (brother of the Eagles' Bernie Leadon), bass guitar and vocals; Greg Collier, guitar and vocals; and Harry Stinson, drums and percussion.....
Also! check out John Batdorf 's new song "One Last Wish" pretty good tune.
Onset beach 1976.This song stands out and reminds me of my favorite beach.Too bad the magic has long since faded. This song puts the magic back for 3:33 seconds. It was great to grow up in the 70s
besides being really talented Silver were really cool guys. I knew some of them well and they were stand up guys. They just had so much competition and low funding back then and the one album was all they could manage in rough times. love them still
I had a hard time finding this song. Could not remember who sang it. This is one of those songs that I liked a lot when it came out but them it seemed like it just faded away. I tried to find it several times on line, but took me several attemps. It would make my top 20 favorite songs of all time.
I used to play Musician (It's not an easy life) from that album as a slow dance song in college at the weekend dances we'd have at the rec center. Nobody knew who it was but the girls would come up and ask me who so I guess they could go buy it.
I am originally from Cape Cod where I was born in 71 and also lived in Tucson Arizona in the late 70's early 80's. As a kid I remember hearing that song on the radio back then. It sure does bring back cool memories of my childhood. Now that I live in Wisconsin I sure do miss them days.
i'm from Vancouver.Canada.I used 2 spend my summers in Evanston.ILFirst time I heard this song was late 1976.I was 18 yrs old on a blind date (Shay! I still love you!) driving my aunt's 1976 Firebird Formula (like Jim Rockford). This song brings back great memories of Chicagoland summer of 76. I still have the 45! I love it!
I first heard this song at a bar called IN THE CITY in Kenosha, Wisconsin during September of 1976, 34 years later there's a prison built on that site...How times have changed.
i am born and raised in chicago area. those of us growing up in the seventies know what i mean. life was great, even without cable tv, microwaves, cell phones, labtops, internet, etc,.... a transister radio, listen to the cubs games, or wls , or wcfl and hearing your favorite songs like" wham bam "or "remenising "by little river band, was great.
@notmeforsure100 - Yeah, I did a lot of listening with my transistor radio under my pillow at night. I like to see how many far away AM stations I could get as well as for the music. 1976 was a bitterseet year for me, my parents divorced, but the BiCentennial celebration was a nice diversion that took out some of the sting for a while.
@mowm88 - Sometimes I still do listen to far away AM stations under my pillow, usually I use a Grundig G6 Aviator Buzz Aldrin edition radio for that, it tunes in longwave to shortwave and the VHF-Air band. It gets SSB so I can hear amateur radio operators and aircraft overseas. It is the same size as a transistor radio. I know that's a far cry from my old transistor radios then although I do have a 1965 8-transistor Magnavox, but my Mom bummed that off of me so the Grundig has to do.

This song is on the "Super Hits of the 70's" collection from Rhino Records. Volume 19. I had forgotten it existed until I heard it on that disc. Awesome.
@tsfanoh10 -- I have the MP3 & would be glad to E-mail it to you or anyone else who wants it. I just had to dig it up because my local classic hits station said it was hard to find so they weren't playing it but now they are. :-)
@DaveWollenberg It's all good, where did you get the chart positions from the AC charts, I notice that on Wikipedia and All Music Guide they never list the AC chart showings for some of the songs
@Doobie1975 I've got Joel Whitburn's Adult Contemporary hits 1961-2004 book. Not an AC fan, but, it is nice to see how the softer pop songs did on the AC chart. God bless!
can we please turn the clock back? do I miss WLS and WCFL in chicago from the 70's when every day and night you could here good music like this. And for the record I am a 51 year old african american man, and me and all of my black buddies listen to pop music then.....oh for those days again!!!!!!!
Boy, do I remember this song! My sister had the 45. I haven't heard this in 34 years and still was able to sing along. Silver deserved more hits than just to be relegated to forgotten one-hit wonder status. Music was terrific back then. Way better than the rap and disposable vocoder crap we have now. Jeesh, I'm starting to sound like my parents.
I was only 10 but how I remember all the great music. As a kid I got my first radio for Christmas at 7 years old. I grew up listing to the radio constantly. Everything from WFIL to WMMR. I love music from the 40's on up. But have to say the 70's and early 80's were my favoites. I still have all my K-Tel Records that I have converted to CD's
Wow! I'll bet I use to hear this every day on the radio in High school back in 1976 but I listen to it now and it really hit me hard. I guess the memories of those times are so sweet and I just yearn to go back to those days and be with all the people I loved and don't have anymore. It's nice to hear this after so long.... I wonder what my childhood sweetheart is doing these days??
An LA-based quintet with their lone major hit that climbed to #16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Featured John Batdorff, formerly of Batdorff & Rodney. To me they sound like one of those UK pop groups, like Pilot or Bay City Rollers.
I definitely agree with the one poster's comment that the first half of the 1970s were the much better half of the 1970s music, while the late 1970s had a lot of great music it didn't have the magic like the early/mid 1970s did, I consider 1974-76 to be the best years of pop music of the 1970s
@1980pacecar Silver toured with America (also many other bands) as their opener...I saw them open for America at the Sahara Tahoe in the Spring of '76, awesome show! I've also gotten to know one of the band members over the net, wonderful guy and musician :)
What a great song. Brings me back to my childhood. I always associated this with a beautiful girl I knew in seventh grade. Songs have a funny way of doing that sometimes. Once in a while, in life, you hear a song at the moment your mind captures a scene/ person/ incident, creating an indelible link forever. I'm grateful I have so many good ones. What sweet memories. Thanks for posting.
This was before my time. I was born in 88, and I always ask myself why they don't make good music like that anymore. Can't stand the shit they call music these days!
@blindmotorhead It may give you some comfort to know that about 15% of your generation, Gen Y, feels the same way you do about today's music versus yesterday's. This was determined by the Arbitron radio ratings company. 15% of Generation Y prefers classic rock and oldies formats over the dominant Urban and Contemporary radio formats (which include rap, hip-hop, and what passes for rock these days.) (Tho I do single out Matchbox Twenty as an exceptional current pop-rock band.) You have good taste
@SIGNALSTAT isnt that the truth I miss the music of the 70's today's stuff sucks, I have this song on a 45 in which I played so much, but still have...glad to know someone else loves this great song.
@Blueeyedgirlie78 oh the 70s were so much fun.i have the 45 also .use to play this all the time dont like getting old but you know we came up in a whole lot better time and world than today.wish there really was such thing as a time machine because i would go back in a minute.lol
The 70s ROCK! Too bad we can't download this song from itunes! I visit You Tube every now and again just to listen to this song and keep it bookmarked.
Thank all of you for your kind comments. I was in this band along with Brent Mydland (later of the Greatful Dead), Tom Leadon (Mudcrutch), Harry Stinson (now with Marty Stuarts band) and John Batdorf still touring and doing his tunes. I currently have a band called "The Bowstring Soldiers" with some videos up on You Tube. I have a CD of new tunes almost completed to release soon. Those were some great times. We got to tour with some great bands. I still appreciate the magic. Thanks again. Greg
=] classic's are such a great thing even tho im only 9 mii daddie said when he was about 20 he would play football and listen to this and stormy and here comes that rainy day feeling again im almost 10 and ima make a cd of classic's because they r mii life i dont like that new crap 5* !!! =] ♥lauren
Starry nights, sunny days I always thought that love should be that way Then comes a time that you're ridden with doubt You've loved all you can and now you're all loved out Oooh-oooh baby, we've been a long, long way And who's to say where we'll be tomorrow Well my heart says, no But my mind says, it's so That we've got a love Is it a love to stay [Chorus] We've got a wham, bam shang-a-lang And a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing Wham bam shang-a-lang And a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing
Looking at you I wanted to say I think a little emotion goes a long, long way Careful now don't get caught in your dreams Look out baby this is not what it seems Oooh-oooh baby, you've been so good to me But please don't make it what it's not Well, I thought we agreed on what we need So listen to me and I'll tell you what we've got We've got a wham, bam shang-a-lang And a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing Wham bam shang-a-lang And a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing
I think you're seeing what I'm saying 'Cause I hear you singing to the tune I'm playing Now that it's said and we both understand Let's say our goodbyes before it gets out of hand Bye, bye baby, I'd really like to stay But we'll remember the best time in our lives We had a wham, bam shang-a-lang And a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing Wham bam shang-a-lang And a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing Wham bam shang-a-lang And a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing
I was listening to this tune on the radio when I was a college student in Tokyo. For a long time I had not known this title and players at all. Fortunately I get to know the its title. Thanks
I saw this band open for America in the fall of 76.They were very good but no one applauded at the end so they didnt come out for an encore. And they didnt do this song.I read the band really didnt like this song-it was forced on them.I liked it though!
Yes, it comes back to me now. "Run Joey run, the hounds are on your trail ... run Joey run, they're gonna send you off to jail."
Something like "Indiana Wants Me" !!
You're right. Today, the first half of the 70's seems like a treasure trove of great music. Try "As The Years Go By" by Mashmakhan. It's posted on YouTube.
I remember that one well. I was a radio-head in those days. As a matter of fact, when I was in 7th grade, the high-school band (who learned rock n roll songs too) played "Evil Woman Don't Play Your Games With Me" and they did it great !!!
This band's keyboardist was Brent Mydland who would end up being the longest tenured keyboardist for the Grateful Dead when he joined them in 1979 till his death in 1990.
I think a little emotion goes a long, long way Careful now don't get caught in your dreams Look out baby this is not what it seems Oooh-oooh baby, you've been so good to me But please don't make it what it's not
My last summer at home and I had such a big crush on this cute blond with green eyes... Got a Dear John Letter while I was in Boot Camp and have roamed the world ever since; I am going to go home some day.
When this song was released, I had just turned 19, and I was in boot camp for the U.S. Navy. A good tune. I always wondered why Silver didn't have any other hits.
me and my dad made a hand shake i really ove this song i grew up with it.....and i still am!!! we got to wham bam shang a lang and a shal lalalala! :) ;)

I lived in Chicagoland too (Aurora), mid-'70s to early '80s, & WLS was the best ever!
Lujack, Edwards, Sirott, Landecker, Davis & Daniels was an awesome DJ line-up.
My local '70s-'80s station in Pittsburg Kansas has revived the old WLS jingles & made them their own. :-)

Greg

I saw this band open for America in the fall of 76.They were very good but no one applauded at the end so they didnt come out for an encore. And they didnt do this song.I read the band really didnt like this song-it was forced on them.I liked it though!

DO YOU REMEMBER "RUN JOEY RUN?"
truth2masses 2 years ago
I sure do!
acdeucee 2 years ago
Was that "Run Joey Run, the hounds are on your trail" ?
57highland 2 years ago
yeah, "daddy please don't, i wasn't his fault. he means so much to me." run joey run. i miss the mid to early 70's.
truth2masses 2 years ago
Yes, it comes back to me now. "Run Joey run, the hounds are on your trail ... run Joey run, they're gonna send you off to jail."
Something like "Indiana Wants Me" !!
You're right. Today, the first half of the 70's seems like a treasure trove of great music. Try "As The Years Go By" by Mashmakhan. It's posted on YouTube.
57highland 2 years ago
check out "evil woman don't play your games with me" by crow. it was 1969 but it spilled over to '70.
truth2masses 2 years ago
I remember that one well. I was a radio-head in those days. As a matter of fact, when I was in 7th grade, the high-school band (who learned rock n roll songs too) played "Evil Woman Don't Play Your Games With Me" and they did it great !!!

Some trivia.
This band's keyboardist was Brent Mydland who would end up being the longest tenured keyboardist for the Grateful Dead when he joined them in 1979 till his death in 1990.

Well, I thought we agreed on what we need
So listen to me and I'll tell you what we've got
I think you're seeing what I'm saying
'Cause I hear you singing to the tune I'm playing
Now that it's said and we both understand
Let's say our goodbyes before it gets out of hand
Bye, bye baby, I'd really like to stay
But we'll remember the best time in our lives
jcoleman200743 2 years ago
You may enjoy this song as much as me. Greatest 76 song...' along with Cliff's Devil Woman. Man those were the days

Looking at you I wanted to say
I think a little emotion goes a long, long way Careful now don't get caught in your dreams Look out baby this is not what it seems Oooh-oooh baby, you've been so good to me But please don't make it what it's not
jcoleman200743 2 years ago
Chorus
We've got a wham bam shang-a-lang and a sha-la-la-la-la baby (2 times
jcoleman200743 2 years ago
Starry nights, sunny days
I always thought that love should be that way
Then comes a time that you're ridden with doubt
You've loved all you can and now you're all loved out
Oooh-oooh baby, we've been a long, long way
And who's to say where we'll be tomorrow
Well my heart says, no
But my mind says, it's so
That we've got a love
Is it a love to stay
jcoleman200743 2 years ago
Great tune OOOOHHHH OHHH my heart says no Wham Bam Shang a lang Sha LA La little emotion goes a long way Baby you been so good to me!

When this song was released, I had just turned 19, and I was in boot camp for the U.S. Navy. A good tune. I always wondered why Silver didn't have any other hits.
