I prefer the "Ampeg" sound, full lows with an almost "growly" tone.

For me, whether I play with pick or fingers depends on the bass I'm playing, and the rig. The bass I'm playing in this video doesn't cut through enough with my fingers because of its pick ups and the amp I'm playing it through. However, when I have played a lefty Jazz bass through an SWR rig, I much preferred playing with my fingers.
