  • nice slo-mo, but at least 3 50s. No matter, that's the way you have to do it now, when only one run counts! Going as close as this or making a bit larger cicles: both can be usefull, it depends on the power of the upstream and where the gate is place.

  • I will be coaching at a few Div 2's this season so if you see me, say hi and we can walk the course - see if we can get you into Div 1 in 2009 :-)

  • Thank You I will do. You going to sowerby at beginning of season?

  • Thanks for the help my friend, I just got promoted into div2 after my first season of racing. I am still learning as you can tell, Thanks for the feed back!

  • Nope...I only travel that far for my own division these days (Div 1) so thats why I was not there :-) Are you in Div 1 yet? :-)

  • Nope not quite I have abotu 3200 points from 4 races hoping to do alot better this weekend at abbey.

  • Cutting it this fine is the only way this can be done. Larger circles mean further upstream movement, means more time spent going the wrong way! Hope this helps! Good question because thinking about a sport is a good chunk of what it takes to be good at it - and these guys are very good at theirs!

  • When it comes to the upsteam gates (red poles) a competitor needs to actually travel upsteam as briefly as possible to reduce the time spent getting downstream to the finish line. A 360 spin, involving the body of the paddler doing a circle around the centre axis of the boat, is the very least upstream travel as only the paddlers body or even upper body/head is actually travelling upstream. Continued.....

  • What is the advantage in cutting it so fine surely it would be faster to keep the speed on rather than stalling the boat then having to re-accelerate?

Is it simply because of their skill and strength that it may be faster for them?

    HELP

  • That old debate eh? I think judges at Prem level are astute enough to give the benefit of any doubt to the paddler when such skill and control is demonstrated. Some of the 360 spin speeds here are awesome. RN's use of bouyancy to accelerate the boat forwards when coming out of the turn (assisted by the bow rudder/forward combo stroke) is super fast. Man I need to lose 20kgs to make that happen dammit!!!

  • some of those look like 50's!!
