The F-35 is a fighter bomber, the raptor is an air superiority fighter. Basically the F-35 can fight most other jets and drops bombs. The F-22 is faster and more focused on destroying other jet fighters. The F-22 clears the skys of major threats then the F-35s come in and do the bombing. The F-22 is like the F-15 were the F-35 is like the F-18.

Well China is further away from AUS than Indonesia is. And As far as I know we have quite good relations with the Chinese and I think if they were going to attack anyone it would be the US, Tawian or India (though I really don't know it's just a guess). Indonesia is right on our boarder. And especially since East Timor our relationship with them is a bit tense at times. I probably doubt they would try anything or even beat us If they tried. But I'd rather our country be safe than sorry.

f-35 does not use the same engine as the f-22, f-22 has less powerfull engines but made to move arownd for more manuevering, since f-35 has 1 engine it has to be stronger, its the powerfullest JET engine ever made BUT it doesnt move arownd, F-35 is made for a multirole fighter, not for a showcase.

Ummmm, I already said that. The F-22'a engines weren't just made to move around, they're designed for supercruise. The F-35's engines gave up supercruise efficiency for more power. Yes, it is the most powerful jet engine ever, but the lack of thrust vectoring is for lower cost. The F-22 isn't just a showcase, by the way.

The F-35 can't supercruise, it's only rated to +9g and doesn't have thrust vectoring which means the F-22 can turn harder, the F-22 has longer range, has more advanced computers and radar, and is stealthier. The only thing the F-35 can do that the F-22 can't is carry larger bombs. The F-22 is superior in almost every way.

Ahhh! I can't believe I said that! It isn't the same, it's based on it. It's uprated for more static thrust, but doesn't have supercruise. Sorry about that. Still, the F-35has a 50000+takeoff weight and only generates around 40000 lbs of thrust. I don't think that stacks up well against some adversaries with positive power to weight ratios.

You're right about the comparison. It's like Comparing a Ferrari to a Dodge Charger. The F-135 engine is awesome, and I'd like to see one crammed into an F-16, but it isn't really set to impress in such a heavy aircraft.

Yeah, the F-35 and F-22 are excellent American planes. US companies developed both planes, but the F-35 JSF program is a more of a multinational program... both the US and UK jointly decided to sign contracts for the F-35 instead of the F-32. Now the JSF program is funded by the nine countries who will buy the plane.

The F-22 is kind of a study model for the F-35. They have looked at the F-22 for a lot of things they implemented in the F-35. The F-35 however is more of a multi-role platform, and only costs half as much a the Raptor :P

Although I can't deny I don't find the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq highly entertaining. Good to see all this modern military equipment put to use to own up some taleban/insurgent bastards (good old fashioned ownage). It's just gone on a little too long. If the US took a break for a few years put some more sick ass weapons into production, then the next war (in a new setting) will be even more entertaining!!! The reason that it was shot down was because the F-117 made it's runs on the same flight path at least 4 or 5 times. That was the fault of the US, and no credit to Russia. A fool could have done that with prior knowledge of the flight path.

Yeah, I agree a1mint, and that's what I've done here. The F35 is an AWESOME fighter plane that's been engineering and build by Lockheed Martin. Albeit there are several other countries involved in this project, but it's Lockheed's baby and USA is #1!!! If there was no USA there would be no badass F-35!!! I mean, if we relied on China to build this plane then we were be screwed when it came down to battle. The plane would fall apart in the sky due to poor quality and component failures!

Yeah it may be more cost-effective, and there is no doubt this plane is brilliant, but can you imagine what "only" 750 raptors will do to another nations airforce... You could have 2000 hornets and still lose. I just hope America will let us (Aussie's) buy the Raptor. I know we are buying roughly 100 F-35's, I just hope that will be enough though to takle any foreign threat, namely Indonesia. Unless America promises to help us if anything happens, i would sleep better if we had Raptors.

Well China is further away from AUS than Indonesia is. And As far as I know we have quite good relations with the Chinese and I think if they were going to attack anyone it would be the US, Tawian or India (though I really don't know it's just a guess). Indonesia is right on our boarder. And especially since East Timor our relationship with them is a bit tense at times. I probably doubt they would try anything or even beat us If they tried. But I'd rather our country be safe than sorry.
