maybe you should first regulate how much celebrities are paid. Does anyone really think for example a kid like justin bieber has worked as hard as an actuary? Look at how much he gets paid first
Well actuaries make $70-300k per year, and they're annually paying these actuaries $95k per year, so that would seem reasonable if this job is full-time, or if it is part-time and these are top tier actuaries. Are actuaries overpaid in general? No. It's a job that takes a lot of time and cost to be accredited in, so it can be compared to a doctor or lawyer (in terms of time, but not quite as bad in terms of cost), and the supply / demand ratio of actuaries is low, so the pay should be high.
Haha, I assume you think neurosurgeons are overpaid too?
Actuaries require a 4 year college degree, and then they begin their quest toward Fellowship, which normally takes around 6 years if you pass all your exams the first time.
@SuperMarker1 well, I am talking about working in the path you choose. I havent finish college but I make 150k a year( have three cell phone stores). So, of course you could become rich from picking cans on the street for that matter and start a buying and re-selling cans instead of picking them yourself.
Do you have any idea how difficult it is to become an actuary? Why do people pay attention to how much they make? The richest Americans do next to nothing to earn their money, and yet nobody questions their billion dollar shares of America's GDP. But you're going to nit pick actuaries making a few thousand and airline tickets for meeting to do something that takes over a decade to master? Its like focusing on a nat on an elephant's behind.
i am looking into the actuary profession and seems very good. there is a lot of math involved, and i am in big dilema. i am a college junior and i take cal2 now. i never been good student in math but slowly slowly i was able to get to where i am now. i glanced at the first exam and it looked very difficult and scary. my question is, WILL I BE AVLE TO BECOME AN ACTAURY IF I AM NOT THE BEST IN MATH? OR IS IT THAT HARD THAT I HAVE TO LIVE NUMBERS? THANKS.
i was of course only kidding. tell me though - is the work study balance really difficult to handle, do you get time for a break? and what are actuaries like to work with - are they reasonable, logical people?
@matt247ryan nahhh, i'm doing it, you kinda sink into it, initially i could barely do 4 hours in the library because exams in high school were relatively straightforward but now i can do upto 8 hours a day for 5 days a week, i think everyone is reasonable-it is your attitude around people that affects how reasonable they are towards you...

reality is : if you study Math, Science, or physics you will get paid.
Those that study other things suffer, because they did not suffer while studying those careers as much as the harder ones.

@andyO4you Reality is: The richest people in the world did not professionalize in math and science.

Let me see you pass a couple actuarial exams. Then you tell me if they are overpaid. They are more underpaid than overpaid.

Given the sacrifice people go thru to obtain fellowship, they are certainly not overpaid.

They'd better not cut payments, then what am I supposed to do? I want to be an actuary!
MisterHolaMan 2 years ago
there is a reason a lot of people become accountants and no one wants to be an actuary
