Ducks are actually much more social animals than chickens and they're great snail hunters. If I would like their eggs I would prefer ducks... They attach more to people than chickens do and they form cute little families that are fun to watch.
Actually go for chickens because you'll get too attached to your ducks to eat them.. ;)
Do ducks as the duck eggs are big and so rich in flavour . Also you can eat the ducks. We had two female ducks and no male duck and they still produced eggs when they grew to adult. But chicken are still great, chicken don't attack you when you take their eggs like ducks do.
Hi Christian, Chickens or Ducks ..go for both. Everything id looking good. Jealous of your rhubarb crowns...mine are a bit small yet. We have had heaps of rain too. My raspberries, blueberry, peach, gooseberries, nectarines and cherries are all taking off. Im hoping to put in the same vegies. We raised pigs for stud when I was young. Great vid. Thanks.
Hey Christian i bought a tiny blueberry plant last summer and its now also starting to bud. I didn't prune it over winter and it now has 5cm woody tips that aren't greening up like the rest of the stems they belong to. Should i prune it off now or leave it? Please let me know dude because i know blueberries take a few years to get big enough to produce fruit and i really want to get it going.
Hello, It`s always a treat seeing your vlogs. We`re winding down here in Pennsylvania, garden-wise. Been awfully wet and cool this summer. Peas, spinach, cabbage, beets, carrots and garlic did very well. My 30 tomato plants got the late blight. Total washout there. Peppers are bearing well, tho` they largely will not turn colors due to cool weather. Good luck to you down there mate.
I'm envious. Your just getting into better weather and I'm looking at months of winter up here in the States. I'm very impressed with the early start you have on everything and with how organized it all looks. I noticed you coughing...you don't have the flu do you? Thanks for a great video.
Christian, pigs root plain & simple. Do you have a stout fence? It is good to put them in an area to root, them move area. Then plant that area. You can mix any kind of compost materials to chop/slop almost. We gave milk a lot as had cows, but sour milk is okay. Really they do best in not too large area & bring food to them. This is actually true of most animals, benefiting man but sparing environment. Your tin will make great pen! They really like oat sheaves.
Hi Christian, whats up w/your cam its awfully bright, can hardly see your garden clearly..or is it just really sunny out there? Nice garden, tho from what I can see...you're always working on some nice projects...btw Im following u on twitter...u need to update, lol..
Here in the Northeast of USA we've had a very chilly, damp spring & summer. A bit depressing; especially with knowing that snow is not too far ahead now. So I understand how you're feeling. Your coop looks lovely, and inviting. I sure whether ducks or chicks, they will enjoy it.
everything looks so neat and tidy. With pigs you need to have two for companionship. So quite a bit of feeding. You could grow some food as you seem to have the space. Hows your water supply for summer . You might show us your pond in a video
Spring...ah man it's gonna start freezing again here!.....Stuff looks good. And I think pig require a lot of food..like scraps and stuff but there is a lot of meat on a pig Mmmmmm
It's great to see an update from you! Everything looks really good. I'm sure by this time of year where you're at, you're ready for the warmth of summer. As for me...I'm dying for cooler weather! TOO many 100+ days this year. Ugg. Look forward to seeing your space progress. :)
Wish you would post more often, I enjoy listening to you talk about your gardens and projects. I'm sort of in the same boat, think there are a few of us. lol I'm on a 5 acre mini-farm in Kentucky, USA. Been here for 3.5 years now had a really good year this year with squash, corn, lettuces, watermelons. tomatoes, strawberries, have wild mulberry, blackberry, and raspberry - luckily. :)
I'm waiting this year for my fruit trees to produce finally (planted 3 years ago) got about 13 all sorts.
Are you completely electricity free? You might consider adding a fish farm to your plot. I have a huge Koi pond (was planning to have a farm) about 15' x 20' x 3' which supplies we with amazing fertilized water to grow my plants.
You can use windmills to aid in filtration and aeration of a pond. I'm considering a Tilapia Farm this summer. You can grow hydroponically (lettuce does amazing) using floating Styrofoam, which cleans the water as well. Its a good balance. Fish, chickens and a cow. :?)

Good to see you making vids again. =)
You have sooo much room to grow, cool!
Pigs will be fun. They break out of their pens often and you must learn how to catch 'em by their hind feet. lol

Thanks.

I've had ducks but definitely prefer chickens for the eggs and manure for the compost and garden.
Btw, good to see you back and making videos! :)
