Love the WWI grass field concept, to never have to muck around with cross winds would be a joy and you said the AT-4 was a grass field plane.
I know your friend is an excellent AT-4 pilot but has he also had stick time in an AT-10 warthog? loved the low strafing run and the steep turn ground to air AA fire avoidance technique.
@jhlace LOL, it was a landing strip. Not far from the airport we took off from. I like so many fields - no problem with landing if necessary :) not like here in Mass... trees and more trees.
