what kind of strings do u use on that guitar cause i have the same one and my strings typically just dont sound that great like i can be playin the exact same chord as u and have a crummier sound that u and my amp and guitar are bran new and ive been playin for like 3 years and do great with other guitars its just i dont know what type of strings to put on my gretsch i ve tried dozens of different strings and just cant find the right combination
@Vincentellis79 Hi there and thanks for your comment - I use rotosound 10-46 strings, not for any particular reason to be honest, It may be the sound of the amp, with the mid set at just 3 which gives it that big 4x12 sound, whether your playing thru a small combo or 4x12 , but you'll need to use an EQ pedal to boost the mids for solos etc otherwise you wont get heard over the band, Thats it really. Hope its of help buddy - Keep Rockin my friend, Carl
hi carl i met you at the nabd rallly this year and you give me your pleck i gave it to my son who is 14 he used it in blackpools got talent and got threw to the final i was bladderd at the time i told you about him and how he wud be made up lol i know its a bit cheesy but thought it wud be nice for you to know it got passed on would love for you to see his vid cheers deane
Hey Man, I love the videos. I have recently become a Gretsch fanatic myself. I always played Fenders and Gibsons, constantly switching between the two to get the tone I wanted. I wanted to try something different so I picked up 6129 Duo Jet, and I was blown away!! I couldn't imagine liking a guitar more, until I got my Black Falcon. now I am a Gretsch guy for life. I was thinking about picking up a Setzer model, but I've heard that the neck and the bridge are mismatched radius. is this true?
@gtrplr42 I have a Setzer Hot Rod and don't notice any issues. The fretboard is a 9.25" radius which is a bit more rounded than the typical 12". I could see them using the same bridge for the Setzer Hot Rod as they do for the 12"ers but I don't really see how that would cause any issues. What problems would it cause?
Just a quick question on these...I have my eye not on a 6120, but a 6188...which is basically the same thing from what I understand. But my question is, how stable is the tuning on these with the Bigsby? Are you constantly retuning at a gig after each song or is it stable for the most part?
Hi Buddy and thanx for your question, Yes ive never had a problem with the bigsby with regard to tuning, and i do give it some, so be rest assured, it'll be fine. Hope this is of help to you
Thanks for posting this. It's nice to see this fine fine guitar not only relegated to rockabilly only. That's all you seem to see people play with it, when in fact it's a VERY versatile guitar for just about any genre of music.
this is brilliant. here i am sitting with my own Gretsch Setzer 6120ssu and i found this. now i LOVE this guitar and generally "try" to play rockabilly/psychobilly but i do love to rock out too. it's super fun. it's great to see this video showing other players out there, just what a Gretsch can do. why get anything else?
I enjoyed your playing, your humour, and your stance. Great sound!
