She isn't the most conventionally beautiful girl out there. She has hairy armpits and a belly pudge that she doesn't even attempt to hide.
Her voice isn't the most conventionally good. It cracks, and she sometimes sings off key.
However, Amanda Palmer proves that convention means NOTHING when it comes to brilliant musicianship. Her music is pure, raw emotion. It feels real. It just..feels. That's what makes her one of the most incredible artists of all time.
It's amazing, you could have played the same notes, the same rhythm, everything but this is just this amazingly strong temper in her playing. I can barely describe it.
@MozeeMiscellaneous : Amanda's not a bad singer at all, she just has a different Voice than Tegan and Sara, and you have to remember at times they sing in unison and take over for each other in certain spots, so yeah it's gonna sound different.
@meverdugo2 In general, just for this song, or...? Honestly, I love her voice usually, but I must admit this recording is kind of weird. It sounds like the mic is partially to blame for it, though. It sounds like it's picking up a very limited range of notes or something.
@ButterflyGuilded It's not poorly drawn. If you look for close up pictures you'll see that they are painted as a design. It's actually really beautifully painted. And yes, I don't like the cover that much either. It's not bad, but I prefer Tegan's version.
But if you check out her own songs @meverdugo2, you'll see that she CAN sing. Most definitely!!
this cover is amazing. i never knew of tegan and sara before this and i want to thank amanda fucking palmer for opening my eyes to yet another amazing band cuz now i cant stop listening to there cd the con, i think im in love lol
I think the best part about this cover is her piano arrangement. Ive seen other piano covers that basically just transfer straight from the guitar - Amanda adds such a nuanced grace and emotion into this arrangement, like the piano is singing with her instead of just background accompaniment.
@alethiometer17 If I recall correctly, Amanda plays more from intuition than classical training, so its even more astounding because she feels what she plays. =]
