Loved your response that there SHOULD NOT be any radiation above background in the samples...right one the money. The fact they are way over background is enough. This is bad. This should not be, but it is a fact. Not good as no amount of additional radiation is good for us.

He was surprised and also relieved knowing that everything he'd been reading was actually half the levels.

What is going on in Santa Monica? 41.6 background seems high to start with. I'm in No. CA and background at my home is about 17. After seeing this video, I checked my own Hepa filter and it comes in at background. No rise. Maybe we are just less exposed here, or maybe I need a better geiger counter? @ravioneu - Very good question. Southern California's high background may be the result of the multiple partial meltdowns that have occurred in the area in 1959, 1964 and 1969. The 1959 meltdown of the Sodium Reactor Experiment at the Rocketdyne's Santa Susana Field Laboratory, released hundreds of times more radiation into the environment than Three Mile Island did in 1979. The lab is now owned by Boeing which is resisting cleaning up back to background levels of rad and chem contamination.
