  • I think this is the secret of shaolin kung fu. whether I am right? why now so spread out like this? is there someone who can explain this?

  • lol what a joke

  • he lives through this video, well done, you can see who he was, a great master, and a good man...

  • Love that clicking neck sound at the start. Note the jaw is lax when he does that.

  • coz in fujian they speak hokkien, same at taiwan along with mandarin

  • translate taiwanese to mandarin...???Mandarin is official language of Taiwan, isn't it?

  • taiwanese mandarin is pronounced so differently that people from beijing wouldn´t understand taiwanese people.

  • thanks, cool, youtube has educatonial value!

  • taiwanese is also known as hokkien from the place in the south east of china, known in mandarain as fujian

  • At 1:40 when the narrator says "This is not filmed in slow motion" just cracks me up.

    Thanks for the uploads :)

  • Hahaha! I was just about to post the same thing!

  • very, very interesting video!

  • Maybe this young boy from beijing is correct. Afterall, the Communists have immasculated Kung Fu in the mainland for 50+ years. Of course.... This video is taken in Taiwan where full contact lei tai and streetfighting was and is very common. Hung Yi Hsiang is a legend and needs no defending.

    Lewitt

  • "Hung Yi Hsiang is a legend and needs no defending."

    Very well said.

  • @TaoBoxer

its true what you said about the communists, its incredible the number of people online who believe that contemporary wushu you see in demonstrations or newer movies about so called shaolin monks teaching in china, and believe its the authentic kung fu. These people have claims like Oh i am a 35th generation shaolin monk etc... but the truth is, most of the kung fu masters had to leave china when the Communists started to oppress them.

  • To be honest I'm no fan of these styles of martial arts however I wouldn't be so arrogant as to dismiss them as crap, because i have never studied them. As for living in Bejing, I'm really not sure that gives you any special insight into anything. But you are entitled to your opinion.

  • Wombat go fuck yourself. Please show us some wushu from Beijing, where no fighting skill is allowed. You are a complete joke with no knowledge of Baguazhang. If you had any you'd know that the lineage of Hong Yi Xiang of Taipei is very strong indeed.

  • hey man I practice tai chi and ba gua in sydneys belmore park on sundays between the hours of 9 and 12 and i assure you after 12 years of practice I can definately fight my way out of wet paper bag

  • I can not but get a little sentimental. This is the same film which brought me to study with master Hung in Taiwan. May his inspiration continue,

    Abi Moriya, Israel

  • Well, Hung has been dead for years, but his reputation was very well known. He was a brawler and a fighter.... and that was in a country that was under martial law. 2 men is a fight, 3 is a riot, and the army shot people.

  • There are some technical errors that smack of old world Occidentalism, but as a wide eyed teenager however, being exposed to these arts for the first time, it was seminal in my development. It actually reminds me of the Blofeld story of falling in love with a Buddha at an early age, a love that later led him to an entire life spent in Asia.

  • I think the project taken as a whole was pretty ambitious and they interviewed some reputable people (Hung and OTake). Honestly, as much as I like the book, it isn't anything special.

  • ommmonet: Many thanks! I just found the book on amazon. I'll get it.

  • truly awesome

  • TaoBoxer: You mention a companion book in the summary. I can't seem to find that book. Can you post a reference to it?

This series seems fascinating to me. Thanks for posting it, and to skytte71 for the work.

  • Was called Fighting Arts

Now called Way of the Warrior

    Reid and Croucher

  • Thank you both for your work. Please continue to share. Peace

  • LOL Thanks! Please don't get me wrong, i know i haven't got any rights, over the series. And i´m not expecting any trophy's or anything.

Actually i think its cool that u have re-uploaded it under a new title! Because now, more people will get a chance to see the whole series!

I was just a little surprised first, when i saw "my" uploads under another name. (I didn't knew u could download, video´s from youtube?)

BTW Nice collection of videos u got there!

  • Thankyou for taking the time to put the BBC's work, which was never made for sale to the public, online. We all appreciate your time and effort to bring Hung Lao Shi (as well of as the rest of the series) to the world.

    Cheers

  • hmm... odd! These uploads, looks like "my work"...

Maybe thats because it actually, is my uploads!!!

I transfered them from my video to my pc. I edited it into these 5 "parts" and adjusted color, brightness etc. I made the intro´s with the asian text / (Fonts), and finally uploaded it to youtube!

You (Taoboxer) could at least have asked first, or give me a little credit, for the full upload of this serie, and the work/time i have put in it...

    Peace...
